Success that doesn't make you happy isn't success.
If you're happy, you are succesful, even if you think you're not. -
I guess success mean attaining a goal. Does happiness, being an abstract state, imply the same thing? Are there many kinds of happiness or only one? Being succesful in our world has connotations which may not mean happiness. What are the connotations of happiness?

Hello friend,
I just wanted to know how did you know or who told you that happiness is an abstract term? If that's the case, isn't success also an abstract term? I too can ask you what are the connotations of success?
Happiness is one of the most intrinsic attribute of mankind. That is why when you are happy, you never feel any kind of discomfort within you. But that's not the case with sadness.
Love,

success. I don't care if I am happy, but if I am successful than I can ensure that my children are happy.

How can anyone truly be successful if they are not happy, an unhappy person is failing on some level.
Personally, I don't judge success by career or financial rewards.
remember, when we die and our friends and loved ones come to pay their respects, they wont be at your funeral talking about the great job you had or how much money you had in the bank, they will be talking about what a wonderful person you were, your smile, the memorable moments you had together and how you made them feel when you were around them.... that my friends is success.

Being happy is a success, if happiness is what you seek to attain.
If you mean to define success as: 1. Act of succeeding; succession. [Obs.]
Then all the sons of these five brethren reigned By due success. --Spenser.
2. That which comes after; hence, consequence, issue, or result, of an endeavor or undertaking, whether good or bad; the outcome of effort.
Men . . . that are like to do that, that is committed to them, and to report back again faithfully the success. --Bacon.
Perplexed and troubled at his bad success The tempter stood. --Milton.
3. The favorable or prosperous termination of anything attempted; the attainment of a proposed object; prosperous issue.
Dream of success and happy victory! --Shak.
Or teach with more success her son The vices of the time to shun. --Waller.
Military successes, above all others, elevate the minds of a people. --Atterbury.
4. That which meets with, or one who accomplishes, favorable results, as a play or a player. [Colloq.] -
