My list of live bands is way too long to post here, but if you really care here's a list of them: www.last.fm/user/paramedictweet/journal/2009/01/04/2dgia2_live_bands_in_3_w...
As for my favourite of all of them, I'd have to say it would be the latest one, which was a charity gig for Teenage Cancer Trust. Babyshambles played with Roger Daltrey from The Who. The atmosphere was electric, the music superb and it was the most fun I'd had in ages.
Seeing The Pixies a few years ago in Spain was good too, as were Biffy Clyro and Vampire Weekend at Glastonbury last year. -
I've seen several on your list: Weezer, Cake, John Mayer, Rilo Kiley, Ben Folds, all great shows! The most recent show I saw was Mates of State, you should check them out if you haven't heard of them, they put on a great live show. And I'm jealous, I would give my left arm to see Rufus Wainwright, especially his Rufus Does Judy show :).

The Who with the Clash and Santana opening was my first major rock concert, in Fall of '82, and one of the best.
Then, the following spring, I saw the Grateful Dead...and they blew me away to such an extent that I saw them another 68 times (as well as maybe twenty or thirty shows by members of the band in various arrangements).
Since then, Miles Davis a year before he died was still great.
Johnny Cash shortly before he quit touring had the most amazing stage presence I've ever seen (though David Bowie in '83 comes close)
Live Aid in 1985 was an amazing event, even if most of the performances weren't particulary memorable.
In the 90's, I saw a number of Lollapalooza tours, thought the best was with Sonic Youth, Hole, Cypress Hill, Pavement, Beck, and Mike Watt.
More recently, I saw a great show by Cat Power last spring, and, the summer before, saw that Patti Smith is still amazing at 60.... -
I've seen:
Disturbed, Mudvayne, Incubus, Hoobastank, System of a Down, Trapt, Smile Empty Soul, Silverchair, Switchfoot, MuteMath, Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects, Three Days Grace
Best live show hands down was Mutemath. They were opening for Switchfoot and both bands were awesome. Best concert i've been to hands down for live show and for most fun at a concert. -
It's interesting how we are all dating ourselves by our musical interests. I think I have pretty typical concert going experience for a thirty something. Coyote Rose is clearly of a younger generation. And DrJay1966 is a super cool 40 something. I am so envious you saw Johnny Cash and I remember watching Live AID on TV. Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Prince, Lionel Richie, Bruce Springsteen, on and on and on. That was a great concert. I think I still have the lyrics for "We are the World" somewhere.

Hey, I'm a thirty something. I just have eclectic musical tastes. s'all. Plus, it was these real estate guys with free tickets who wanted to schmooze me into buying a hotel. So there we were, in corporate casual surrounded by pot smoke and hippies and flower children of all ages. CSN&Y were amazing and the Colorado night air was perfect, with the red sandstone rocks framing Denver's city lights twinkling in the distance. Sadly, the real estate agents did not land any business, but I was happy to mooch.

I didn't even see your Crosby Stills and Nash until just now. I love it when people have eclectic tastes. Makes you more interesting!
I was actually referring to Coyote Rose's list and DrJay1966 lists specifically because there are clearly generational differences in their musical tastes!
I forgot to add Robert Plant and Allison Krauss to my list. They were pretty amazing.

I would say My Chemical Romance in Brussels, 2007. Silly.
And The Last Shadow Puppets, Paris, 2008. Brilliant. -
Dang, you're busy!
It's been a long time since I was at a concert. Saw Wynonna Judd when she was very pregnant with #1, Mary Chapin Carpenter was great, loved VInce Gill the first year he started getting awards. For rock and roll, my fav was ELO and Kansas together even if my ears rang and I had a headache afterward. -
There have been a lot that I have really liked. In the past ten years, the ones that I have seen that blew me away were:
Paul McCartney
Melissa Etheridge
Eric Clapton
David Bowie
BB King
I have seen quite a few others that were excellent also--but they weren't quite on that same blow me away level. Some other notables are:
The Eagles
Aerosmith
Sheryl Crow
Buddy Guy
I see a lot of concerts because I am also a musician. They are definitely a priority in my life. -
Allman Brothers
Leslie West & Mountain
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Santana
Bob Dylan and The Band
Aerosmith
Eagles
Todd Rundgren
Frank Zappa
Grateful Dead
ZZ Top
Rolling Stones
Robert Plant
Pink Floyd
Fleetwood Mac
...just to name a few -
MC Hammer was good. But I have been to see Janet Jackson on every single tour she has made.... Its hard to say which was my favorite, but I am guessing a toss up between Rythm Nation and Velvet Rope...
Then Again.. Creed put on an excellent show as well. And how could I forget that I once was part of the opening show for Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam... Now those were the days. But not what you would have expected for a MadScientist huh? -
I've seen 3 doors down (2x), Live, Stained, Chris Cornell, Alterbridge (actually kinda sucked that time
), Linkin Park, Collective Soul, and the Blues Travellers.
I would *love* to see Bob Seger in concert
Out of all the bands I wish I could have seen, though, it would have been Fleetwood Mac (runner up? Bad Co.
).
