Hi, I run a green blog the Accidental Environmentalist which is on sub domain of my main domain

jollygreengirl.com

I have been bit of a loss on what to do with the main domain. I was going to do another blog but don't really have time or the energy to set up and run a new blog. I was thinking about setting up an online Eco-friendly store. Does anyone have any suggestions which storefront or shopping cart I should use?

Any online store owners who want to give me advice about running a store would be appreciated. Or even links to info would be great

No experience myself, but I've been looking at this one www.oscommerce.com/
    It's open source and free.

My fave record shop uses it: dswat.net/

I have used oscommerce in the past and it served my needs. Its easy to use, easy to alter and has an active froum and lots of extras to add onto the basic setup.

looks good however I don't know if I have a lot of time to learn the interface of it... is it pretty easy to set up? I don't feel like learning more coding and stuff.

It is easy to set up but if you want to add extras you may need to alter some code at some point. If you decide to go for oscommerce let me know and I can alter the code if you ever need it doing. No charge as normal.

What platform do you use? How much do you anticipate selling? What software do you use for your website? What products?

Currently It's hosted with Siteground and I can basically use anything. Right now It's a wordpress blog but I can delete the database and put something else. I have been playing around with it for awhile and went through a lot of changes with it.

Thanks for the links.. will check it out.

      It is www.miva.com

What solution you use should dictate what shopping cart you utilize. Also, are you a part of Co-op America? www.coopamerica.org? There will soon be a new socially conscious online marketplace that will be launched in the next 60 days. e*Bay has funded it and will be similar to there existing model.

Oh Thanks Global Girl!!! I sold some stuff on Ebay and like how easy it is to use it. That's something worth checking out.

So what are you gonna sell? Organic diapers?
    1. dharmagypsy7
yeah, organic diapers, biodegradable and natural cleaning supplies, organic bath and beauty.... some stuff I use and like.. but that means I guess I have to start contacting vendors and get it more organized.. It's in the planning stages right now.. but I would really love to open up an Eco-friendly or Organic store (an actual store). There actually isn't any where I live so I have to order a lot of things online.

Cool! You will be perfect candidate for this new marketplace. Go sign up with www.coopamerica.org. They are based in DC and have a wealth of resources for green businesses. You can also network with members - and they have a directory of green businesses found here: coopamerica.org/cabn/

Need to clarify. By being a green business with www.coopamerica.org, you will become eligible to participate in this new socially conscious marketplace. There will be several trusted partners that will be involved, endorsing the sellers on this site, and Co-op America is one of them.

      Happy selling and congratulations!

you can add a third party like paypal, google cart or 2checkout, and just design your layout yourself as well.

Congratulations on your decision. I think it's a great idea. I'm glad to know about coopamerica also, I link to them on my blog and also have joined, but didn't know about their upcoming marketplace at all.

I have an online store, and I really love PayPal. I tried others, but theirs is simple and trusted. Your customers can process with any major credit card and do not have to be PayPal memebers to purchase. I like it too, because when I get e-mails asking about certain products, I can send back with a "buy now" link to make it easy for them.
