We have had a call to unite against human suffering and abuse, resulting in a few blogs being submitted. Some were rather good, some, not so good, some were even mentioned on CNN as promised; so is that it?

I think the first thing we need to do is establish a value-added system of grading a blog in its category prior to opening it and reading it.

The first one to grade the blog would be its author, by establishing the blog's tags.

The second grading system would come into play when another person actually opens up the blog and makes a value judgement on five (5) criteria:
A) Does the blog focus on the topic at hand? 1., 2., 3., 4., 5, with (1.)being the lowest and (5.) being the highest
B) Does the blog raise any new points that have not been discussed? 1., 2., 3., 4., 5.
C) Is the blog well written? 1., 2., 3., 4., 5.
D) Is the blog concise? 1., 2., 3., 4., 5.
D) Does the blog offer any solution or course of effective action? 1., 2., 3., 4., 5.

Blogcat should create a "Rating" widget to be placed on all participating blogs so every blog can be rated by the reader and have it posted along side the blog at Blogcat.

    I've seen worse ideas. (1)

This would have the problems endemic to voluntary feedback processes, but I like the basic idea.

There's even a remote chance that I'd participate.

    (1) I'm from Minnesota - where "it could be worse" can be a compliment.

      Yes,

I have been toying with the idea of "forced" feedback as well. In order to submit your blog, a code obtained from a "rating" widgit from another blog already posted under the same topic would have to be entered first. Of course, I realize the devil would be in the details in this type of scenario, but something long those lines may be necessary.

You know, once we do develop some kind of cyber "consolidation" and "evaluation" mechanism, prize money could be offered to the winners, along with blog recognition, to name just a few of the benefits of deliberative groupware. There are many, many others. The real payoff being able to mind-merge millions and millions of people with the communicative and accumulative power of the Internet to form a single, coherent thought, decision or action. This kind of an exercise on this large of a scale has simply never been possible before. It makes for a very exciting challenge for those who understand the potential gains. But, sadly, so very few do.
