What is the best way to update a specific topic?

Hi all,
My news blog covers lots of different topics but what happens when you have a topic which you know will last for a couple of weeks? What is the best way to update the original topic?
Should I write new posts maybe with links to the original article? Or should I write maybe a new page just for that ongoing article? How do you cover an article or topic which needs updating for say a few weeks or even a couple of months?
Thanks in advance
Tony:)

Tony .. I would be more creative and deeper with your categories. Generally (i.m.h.o. of course) .. think that all updates to the original news article should be posted as a separate and new item under the same category. An initial sentence and link to the original or last article (if a continuation) is best plus it is always good to link back inside your archives. Something like:
FOLLOWUP: To my blah blah post from yesterday at URL ..
If there are updates to your news article, say by other people that have either trackback or you add additional sources, or amend your sources etc .. I would edit the current post but, don't change anything .. just either add at the top of the post or bottom of the post - something like this.

Hi all,
Yes you can add pages, I was thinking of adding an update page but i'm leaning towards PetLvr's advice using the categories and linking to the archives if the topic goes on and on.
Tony:)
P.S. I am thinking of adding more pages, any suggestions on what, other than an about page?-
re: www.globalnewsblogger.com/
Now that I look at it .. I would make a suggestion, since you are only 18 posts into your blog. You should have two categories per post - the ones you are using, and a continent or country. Also, you should first upgrade to wordpress 2.3 and modify each with a bunch of post tags as you edit them all.
Then - for the pages - you need an Archives Page .. that has both posts by month (I prefer justinblanton.com/projects/smartarchives/ ) and by category - or 'region'. So, UK readers can read UK news, Japanese readers can read news about stuff in Japan, and well, the rest of us earthlings can look at them all
Other pages could be .. resources page, links page, recommended reading page, popular posts with most comments page, etc etc.
