What is the Most Shaking World Event of Your Lifetime?

For some of it, it's 9/11, JFK and/or RFK's shootings, MLK's death...etc. Or perhaps it was something more local than that.
It didn't happen to you directly, but you felt it just as severely...
What event left the biggest mark?

The VA Tech shootings. I have friends that attend there and waiting to see if any of them were harmed was awful. -
My mother's death. -
A recent fire at a day-care in my hometown. About 50 babies died and a lot more got severe burns. It was horrendous to search trough the list of names praying that no name would be familiar.-
Oh my GOD!! Thats awful! I hope no one you know was hurt, although that feels like an empty hope since so many little babies died. I'm so sorry to hear that.

The Grandchild of a neighbor died

I think of 9/11 and the explosion of the Challenger quite vividly.
And in 8th grade, there was a rapist going around our school-- attacked a girl in the school bathroom. So we were quite uneasy after that.
Oh, my family's house was robbed about that same time. So things felt very insecure. -
Losing my $15 hour job because I wouldn't sleep with my boss. I was single at the time and he tried to take advantage of that. -
