As an X-Ray technologist I am often curious about the way patients view their visits to our department. So... I ask what is the most uncomfortable* X-Ray exam?

*Uncomfortable is open to your own unique perspective. (i.e. physical, emotional, etc...)

The colonoscopy. Especially if the nurse starts drilling before the entrance is numb.

I had a barium swallow once. If the name isn't scary enough what is that stuff going to do to my body? Is my poop gonna glow in the dark and be radioactive? So many questions. Oh and they called it a milkshake. Ice cream, milk and Kryptonite make a great combination.

    For me, it's "was."

The most 'uncomfortable' x-ray procedure I had was one (actually, a series of them) which was necessary sometime during preparations for my hip replacements: probably the first one.

Details are hazy, but I remember exquisitely uncomfortable sensations, trying to adjust myself on the table - with two severely arthritic hips. No complaints, the staff was doing the best they could with limited time and equipment which does not take into account the possibility that someone with a non-standard body may need to be examined.

BTW, hats off to you and your professional colleagues. The work you do is very important, and largely behind-the-scenes.

I broke a few ribs on once and had to undergo a scan to check for "extra" damages. In less than 30mins I was stuffed with "Milkshake", and had a bad reaction to the injection administered which also serves as a "Glow in the dark" feature for your insides in the event of possible internal bleeding. Hives, convulsions, and puking up "Milkshake"... it' looked like a scenes from the Exorsist.
