As a buyer I'm often faced with this dilema, so what d'you think is the ultimate geeky toy for your pocket?
For me 'that must have' accessory is my iPhone. What couldn't you leave home without?

bOllOcks, good shout! I have 3 - you never have enough space on them, but it's better than carting a portable hard disc around

I have a USB flash drive I made into a scarf pin. When they get smaller I'll make them into jewelry.

have you heard of mimobots by mimoco, saw some awesome clips on youtube?

I agree with HollytheHousewife - I have a not very 'smartphone' too. It's got all the bells and whistles but a lousy signal and poor battery performance, but I no longer have to turn out scraps of paper from my jeans with notes and telephone numbers on washdays - yey!

A 'Capt'n Crunch' whistle. If you're a hacker you know what that represents.

    2600!

lmao, I haven't heard that in years. Good call, no pun intended.

Eh? Had to Google this one, and up popped Wiki explanation "Relation to hacking culture. In early 1971, a Vietnam War veteran named John Draper (later nicknamed Captain Crunch, Crunch, or Crunchman) discovered with his friend Joe Engressia that a toy whistle that was, at the time, packaged in boxes of the cereal could be easily modified to emit a tone at precisely 2600 hertz, the same frequency that was used by AT&T long lines to indicate that a trunk line was ready and available to route a new call. This would effectively disconnect one end of the trunk, allowing the still-connected side to enter an operator mode. This resulted in, among other things, the ability to place free phone calls to anywhere in the world and operator-like control over the phone system". Am I close?

Does it still work then? As I'm sure you can find a collectors one on Ebay

Nope, they fixed that problem a long time ago. Try it now and you will get a visit from the dark suit and sunglass crowd real quick.

    1. mimimediamogul
Eh? are you thinking of a bumbag?
  12. mimimediamogul
I didn't think I really needed anything till someone sent me a copy of STUFF magazine. Now I need a manbag to carry all my cool stuff and a portable generator with a 6 way adapter plug socket to power them all LOL

Except for the pocket-protector, I also haven't heard of many of these things. My problem must be that I have been looking for the top "Hick Chic" accessories: things like a seed company hat, farm boots, leatherman tool, bandana....

leathermans rule. Everyone should own a leatherman.

I don't need or desire to be connected 24/7/365. I don't own an iphone or any other geek accessory.

Leave home without? And leave my PC? No way!

Geek chic accessory instantly reminded me of a jewellery I saw on Instructables.com that was hiding a USB drive inside of it.

I actually stopped carrying anything around with me. My only geek accessory these days is my credit card that fits into my pocket. I don't even take my phone with me half of the time these days. If I want to work outside my house, I take a notebook. As in paper and pen -notebook.

Hi "b0ll0cks" Leatherman is a SWISS ARMY KNIFE on steroids!! (awesome gadget - I have 3 and never go camping without one)
    2. mimimediamogul
Hi Sebastyne, good shout, I have a little wireless acer#1 notebook; perfect for blogging during the ad breaks while watching 24

Slightly on topic - All this talk of leatherman's has prompted me to ask the question what gadgets or features would your ultimate swiss army knife have?

Mine would have a usb stick, universal remote control, mobile phone charger(that runs on a single AAA battery), shopping trolley tokens, and a knife/bottle opener/corkscrew of course. Oh, and probably a suitecase to carry it all in!!
