What is true love?

Love is simple. Love is four things. These four things define love - not the other way around.
1. Kindness - The intention and the capacity of kindness, it cannot be just the intention because sometimes we have the wrong intentions thus there is no capacity of kindness.
2. Compassion - Compassion is the healing of suffering through love and kindness, if someone we love suffers, we will have sympathy and thus feel sad/suffer with them compelling one to heal their suffering.
3. Joy - True love ALWAYS brings joy.
4. Equanimity - All living things deserve love unconditionally/equally. Equality also brings out such traits as.. freedom.
As these four things grow love grows - as love grows these four things grow - they grow as one.
Spread love with kindness!

Why do you speak of “true love” when you can just speak of “love?”
When speaking of “love,” It is understood that love is true, for if it is not true, then it is not really “love.”
And if you must insist on speaking of “true love,” and at other times just “love,” then I shall have no other choice but to reason that when you speak of just “love,” it must be something other than love.-

the word 'love' is used very lightly. meaning it has lost the 'true' meaning.
thus.. i used the phrase.. true love.. meaning TRUE love..
One can only love something that can love back - another being/animal
Often the word love is used to describe something that one likes.
for example: 'i love candy'
does candy love back? can candy love back? no. love is a feeling. candy does not feel emotions thus cannot love back. feeling 'love' for candy is not true love - refer to my definition of true love.

"Love," has lost it's meaning because people like you go around using "true love" in place of "love." If you consistently speak of "love" truly, there would be no need to add "true" in front of it. It would be redundant. So if you want to give value back to the meaning of "love," then cease referring to love as "true love."
Also, you can love something without it loving you back and your love for it can and will still be true. Loves verity isn't dependent on reciprocation. Your definition is flawed and does not reflect love. -

i didnt say that it was cause someone doesnt love back - i said one cannont love something that CANT love back - as only beings can feel emotions - something that cant feel emotions cant love back thus you cannot show something that cant feel emotions love - if you cannot show something love you cannot truly love it.
i think it hilarious how you dont approve of using the phrase 'true love' - as if truth is something not good enough for love..

Clearly, you are not getting it. I am not saying truth isn't good enough for love. I am say when one speaks of "love" it is understood that it is true. For if were not true, then it wouldn't really be love to begin with. So it is redundant to say "true love." Read my first post again. It explains it clearly.
Also, I disagree with your claim that just becuase something doesn't have the ability to feel love or express love then you cannot love it.
We can feel love for anything, it doesn't matter if the object of our love can feel love or not. -
ANd love does not demand or look for repay.

love is an emotion. when one feels the emotion of love - one will be happy. when one feels hate - one will be sad.
id like to see an example of one feeling true love and being sad..

it is unkind to yourself to not investigate what love truly is - love is an essential part of life - like breathing/eating/sleeping.

being unkind to yourself is part 1 of what is love. showing lack of love for yourself. i have great sympathy for your inability to show yourself love.
i want you to understand love.. i want you to know love. i want you to feel love.
it is the greatest high - the greatest feeling - all should be lucky enough to know/feel true love

True love is simple - life is complex
it's easy to say love is complex without backing it up. i've laid it out pretty straight forward.. make an effort to understand what i've actually communicated.. then make an effort to question what it is that you don't fully understand.. and I can make can effort to help you realize what you don't understand.

there no doubt that everyones opinion will be different. i mean i guess its not something you can learn but.. i just learn about what love is in psych of sexuality.. and there was only three ( passion, intimacy, and commitment). none of the other things.-

'love' is a word. words have meaning.
when two or more people come to one understanding for a universal meaning this creates language.
love is not something to learn - love is something to understand
everyone knows the word love - but do they understand what it is to love? do they know love for them self? do they know love for others?
the psych has little to do with love - love is an emotion given by the heart
the heart is in the chest - the psych is in the mind

but the mind does not feel love - feeling comes from the heart
