I hear this word too much. What is unconditional love?

are you capable of giving it to everyone?

I dont think so about myself. what about you?

    Yup.

But to love someone unconditionally does not mean you have to like them or how they behave. I can think of more than a few people I will love always and unconditionally, but whom I oftentimes don't especially like.
  2. thought
yes, that is what i also think, i will love them always but not every second, sometimes i may get mad at them too, and sometimes they may have to repair my broken heart too

Just human. Only give with a condition!

If you have feelings for someone and your able to let them date someone else because that person is better, you love that person.

      "let them date"?
Like you have the power to stop them?

      "because that person is better"?
Sounds like martyrdom to me, not love.
    2. thought
yes its martyrdom, greatest sense of love, i dont possess it. i will tell him ta ta.. of course i cant stop him from dating, but he will go one way.

It surrounds the following phrase - "it doesn't matter" - it doesn't matter what they do or become or say, if feeling endures beyond those limits and keeps on giving, then it can be said to be unconditional.

      most probably

no person is able to give unconditional love we are wired that way. Animals are the only thing that I know of that can give it. Take a dog. Its owner beats it and abuses it but it still loves its owner.

      Do you have kids?

I have three...all adults with their own families.

I love them no matter what. But there are times I don't like them very much.

That is what unconditional love is...the ability to keep loving when you aren't liking.
    2. thought
dear amy i agree with you but i also follow violet's view, that is in my words "true love" but not "unconditional love", only animals and angels can love unconditionally. i agree.

    basically,love without any conditions
It could be a gender thing because men don't like conditioner in their shampoo either

Unconditional love: a quixotic ideal, a poetic dream, a fairy tale romance-and totally unnecessary.

Odd how so many people, skeptical of God, Truth and the very existence of matter, still believe in Unconditional Love.

It's easy to believe in something you have personally experienced. Ask any mother who is suffering from despair and fatigue after several nights without sleep due to a colicky or teething or sick baby.

And equally easy to disbelieve in invisible magicians conjured millennia ago by ignorant tribesmen trying to explain the quixotic world around them.

O well, SV, I'm just being whimsical. But you know personal experience is one thing and how one interprets it another. So what one person calls unconditional love, another might call instinct or convention or just plain selfishness. What interests me is this compulsion to "believe" in Love as if without it one's life would be empty and meaningless. In that way it reminds me of how lots of people feel about believing in God.
    3. thought
      dear nothingprofound,
why do our thoughts always match. i think the love which sweet violet is full of is "true love" "unconditional love" is a poetic dream.

It is when you love someone for no reason and you like everything that he/she does. But I don't it's possible for us because we are people and not God.
    1. thought
      dear idealpinkrose,
will i salute you for speaking my heart? i prefer unselfish love or if i can become like sweet violet then "true love" but i will leave "unconditonal love" for god, angel and animals.
