If you have feelings for someone and your able to let them date someone else because that person is better, you love that person.

It surrounds the following phrase - "it doesn't matter" - it doesn't matter what they do or become or say, if feeling endures beyond those limits and keeps on giving, then it can be said to be unconditional.

no person is able to give unconditional love we are wired that way. Animals are the only thing that I know of that can give it. Take a dog. Its owner beats it and abuses it but it still loves its owner.

basically,love without any conditions
It could be a gender thing because men don't like conditioner in their shampoo either -
Unconditional love: a quixotic ideal, a poetic dream, a fairy tale romance-and totally unnecessary.
Odd how so many people, skeptical of God, Truth and the very existence of matter, still believe in Unconditional Love.-
It's easy to believe in something you have personally experienced. Ask any mother who is suffering from despair and fatigue after several nights without sleep due to a colicky or teething or sick baby.
And equally easy to disbelieve in invisible magicians conjured millennia ago by ignorant tribesmen trying to explain the quixotic world around them. -
O well, SV, I'm just being whimsical. But you know personal experience is one thing and how one interprets it another. So what one person calls unconditional love, another might call instinct or convention or just plain selfishness. What interests me is this compulsion to "believe" in Love as if without it one's life would be empty and meaningless. In that way it reminds me of how lots of people feel about believing in God.

It is when you love someone for no reason and you like everything that he/she does. But I don't it's possible for us because we are people and not God.
