    I think mine was 30.5 or something. I signed up a few weeks ago. Now it's 47.9.
  2. carlgalloway
    54.3, but what does it mean, is this good or bad?
    1. tamalds
      Its BC rank 54.3 out of 100. The more you have it, the more you get the exposure. Like listed in the BC directory, higher.
  3. carlgalloway
    Cool, but it still doesn't mean very much to me, is there a ranking of popular BC blogs that I can see like I can with Technorati, or is there a scale where I can say I'm doing well like having high pagerank. 54.3 doesn't tell me anything if I can't compare it to other blogs of similar size/PR/authority etc. Maybe you should make up an explanation where you define what it means to BC people. So a new blogger joins and starts with 10 for example, and they need to do xyz to get to 30 or 70, or a blog has a rank of 90 and what does that mean?

    I'd have to look since I just added a new blog and deleted one from here. But the one I deleted had a rank of 74+ and was #1 in the humor category. Tis very sad... or something.
    1. crpitt

      The new one will rise like a phoenix from the flames or something
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
      Did you MEAN to delete it, or was it a horrible oopsy??

      I'm at around 64.4 rankwise. It sort of stays in that general vicinity.
    3. monkeytale
      Yup...I meant to delete it..and as soon as I get some of my favorite posts transferred over to the new one it'll be permanently deleted. Trolls have invaded.
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
      Why can't they stay under the bridges where they belong?
    5. suburbqueen
      Sorry to hear about the trolls, mikster. That sucks!
    6. DeadRooster
      Oh, for the days when a 74 would get you to the top of the Humor section...

      Those days are gone.
  5. suburbqueen
    Mine is currently at 65, but it changes quite a bit.
  6. marcxtg248
    just checked mine,its at 43.5 @_@

    so i guess its on the bad side is it ^_^ ?
    1. tamalds
      If your site is PR 4, does that means you are in the wrong side? NO. It is great to have 43.5, many blogs have 05 or less. You should be proud of it.

      If you put a BC button on your blog, then your rank can rise upto 10+ points. No matter who ranks you and what are rankings. Ranks does matter!

    I am new here and I have just spent the last hour trying to figure this out. All I want to know is , which is probably a stupid question that I am sorry for, for the Blog Rank button where people can vote, which is the high score? I am thinking it is 5, since we want a higher score for our rank, but I am not sure... Being "number 1" keeps echoing in my head. Thanks!
  8. sterndal
    i really don't know...how do I know that? sorry newbie here

    Mine is 60.3 & I registered in July 2007
  11. DeadRooster
    I am blessed to have an extremely high ranking. I should be happy with it, but every time it falls below a certain level (like in the last few days) I get bummed.
  12. shonick
    so, how do you increase the rank?
  13. maccallister
    mine is 52.5 out of 100?what that does mean??/i dont see BC's blog ranking lists

      This has been discussed many times before.
      Go to your BC Profile page and click "Manage Blogs". When the page opens you will see your BC blog rank.
      * Blog Rank: ___ of 100
      * Recent Views: ___
      * Recent Hits: ___
      * Total Views: ___
      * Total Hits: ___

      No all of the factors that go into the BC blog rank calculation algorithm are made known, as if they were,then members would "game the system".

      The BC blog rank is internal only. It does not affect your blog's Google page rank, Alexa rankings, etc. It only affects what position your blog will appear in the BC Directory, and on BC categories and BC tags pages. www.blogcatalog.com/help/

      (1) Every moment you invest in using the search facilities to locate blogs related to your own blog and clicking through to read them is a good investment. www.blogcatalog.com/search

      (2) Every blog post you read and leave meaningful comments on is a good investment when it comes to increasing traffic to your own blog and to improving its BC blog rank.

      (3) Every blog centered relationship you make with BC members is a good investment when it comes to increasing traffic to your own blog and to improving its BC blog rank.

      Why link dropping is not in your best interest at BC
      Every time you drop an irrelevant blog link into a comment box on the forum you stand to lose BC blog rank juice. On one hand, whether its ours or it belongs to another blogger, we are allowed to post links into comment in threads on the BC forums, if and only if the link(s) we post directly relates to the topic of the thread.

      On the other hand, every time you drop a blog link that isn't relevant it can be reported for removal. But that's not the most important point. Also note that every time you opportunistically drop your non-relevant blog link into a comment in a thread on this forum you are losing potential BC blog rank juice.

      We can click any BC username here and arrive on a BC profile page and that counts for a BC view stat for the applicable member. We can then find the blog url on that BC profile page and click it and that counts for a BC hit stat for the applicable member. So, if we spam a forum thread by opportunistically, dropping a link to our blog into it, and members click the link then we lose the stats we could have had if they had clicked our username and then our blog url.

    Thanks Timethief had no clue.
    My Thoughts Always: 59.7
    The Heart of A Mom Forever: 15.7
    Proof Positivity: 57.7
    My Habitat Home: 35.4

    In all fairness I don't spend enough time at The Heart of a Mom and My Habitat Home is fairly new. Though The Heart of a Mom is going to have a special post on the 17th.

      You're welcome Shirley. It boggles my mind when I see members drop their links into forum comments - DUH! Worse still is when they get peeved because their lame link drops are deleted - DOH!
    2. Shiley
      Lol! I knew about that. I've been here almost a year had no clue about the rank thing or where to find it. I've even been on that page before.
    3. timethief
      Ahhh ... I wonder how many others have never clicked the "help" link and read this:

      Blog Rank - a special formula that analyzes your hits, views, comments, neighborhood members and other special secret ingredients to create a numeric score based on a 100 point scale. Your Blog Rank is primarily used to determine the order blogs appear in our Directory and Search Results. The higher your score the better your placement.

      Views - The number of unique visitors that have looked at your BlogCatalog listing

      Hits - The number of unique visitors that have clicked through to your blog from BlogCatalog.
    4. Shiley
      Admittedly, I'm a trial and error girl. I jumped in without thinking very much. I learn more from experience for some reason.
  15. Stoker
    the term 'rank' unfortunately implied for me that it is better to have a LOW score, like I want to be rank '1 out of 100' blogs! Anyway, thanks for explaining in this post!
    1. timethief
      You're welcome.
