Yeah, I prefer black too; easier on the eyes to me, especially over long periods. I don't "really" have a favorite though. I just try to blend it in with the content.

      Background? Agreed, in any case.
  7. DeadRooster
I am fond of my blog colors:
    www.deadrooster.com

I am not fond of white text on a black background because it makes my eyes fall out.
    1. Norski
Agreed: about the white-on-black. Cool as it is.

Pretty good color (? well, white is a color, and so is black) choice.
  8. ThriftShopRomantic
Interesting, but what shades/colors I really like, and what I end up using for my blogs are not necessarily the same thing. I tend to go more for tone/atmosphere. Colors are good at setting a tone and creating an experience. So I choose colors based more on how I want folks to feel when they visit.
    1. Norski
      Bingo!

      Me, too.

I take it you like black?

      As a background?

      Or font?

      Or perhaps both?

anything but black for me - the black is very hard for me to read. I actually really like the default color scheme on the "freshy" template I use on wp dot com. It's basically white but the navigation menus are black and ecto-plasm green. I dig it.
  11. nardeeisms
    blue or light violet
  12. s0ulsistaz
depends...sometimes i like light pink, then i like light green, then light purple....then light orang...BUT never black
  13. andysplace
At least some people agree with me thanks manumartin come on black
  14. marcueto
Light colors as long as it is easy to read...but I do love green, so there must be some green somewhere.

I don't understand why nobody likes black background. The white background hurts my eyes all day looking at it. How can black hurt? It is not bright.

I can look at my blogs all day with no eye problems. If I was on this white background forum all day, my eyes would be bothering me.
    1. marcueto
I think the black is fine if the font is large and the color of the font contrasts with the black. I just went from white background to a pale yellow and it does feel better on my eyes.
    2. Norski
Good point - off-white/light backgrounds with black or very dark fonts do seem to be easier to read.
  16. machinehuman
    black or white
    1. Norski
      No shades of gray?
  17. Norski
Really dark blue with light blue font.

Not the best choice for readability, and certainly not for creating the right mood in most cases.

Black background with white font - or green font - is a close second, with the same comment.

I generally choose very light background and black or quite dark font, for readability.

Otherwise, being what I am, I choose colors based on marketing considerations. What can I say, I'm a philistine.

(Narcissus-X might have a few words to say on the subject, if I can dig him up.)
    1. Norski
Narcissus-X ( narcissus-x.blogspot.com/ ) claims to have posted something about favored blog colors. I'm inclined to doubt it, myself.

Years ago, I made a screen display that was red background, yellow font, orange highlights.

My eyes rebelled, threatened secession, and demanded assurances that I'd never do that again. And, I haven't.

    As far as they know.
  19. Norski
Getting a little more serious, I think there's a distinction between "like" and "would actually use."

I think ThriftShopRomantic brought up the point first.

In my case, I like violet, plum, indigo: upper-spectrum colors. Cultural associations being what they are, I'm not likely to make extensive use of them. Besides, it takes real skill to make something like a yellow/violet/red-orange/blue-green color scheme work. Also, time and effort.

    Read...it seemed so obvious
Research a few year back showed that a light green color had a calming affect on people and held their attention.
Another study showed that red will grab peoples attention but does not tend to keep it. They believe that it appeals to the hunter in us and the red signifies blood. I think the red signifies fresh fruit, still food but I don't think prehistoric humans were hunters.
And that concludes my tangent for this evening.
    1. Norski
      Thanks.

Do you remember where you read/heard that?

About red: Not just apples - quite a few fresh fruit are red. And I'm not going to get into speculative paleontology here.
    2. ekim941
The fruit reference is just my theory. The study on the color red as far as marketing has been around for a decades. Corporations spend millions on marketing research each year and a lot of that has to do with colors.
The green Study was done as a psychology study I believe it came from Cornell University in the late 80's.
If you want a more accurate source on the green study, look into "Green Rooms" or ready rooms. Most recently there was a study done to determine the best colors to paint in a "Ready room" to calm the nerves of guests about to go on air. And, the winning color was... Green.
    3. tps
Excellent advice, ekim941. I was trying to recall the study of colors, but just couldn't remember. And definitely true about the effect of colors. There's more to it than just "what looks good". Thanks for the refresher!

I like black type on a light background personally. What about if you display images, which do you prefer? Black or dark background or light coloured one?. . .and why? I am just curious.
  22. Shiley
I don't generally care unless a reader says it's hard to read then I change it.
  23. 2mtreasures
i like pink and light blue
  24. ChicaX
As long as it's readable it's fine with me. Dark fonts on light backgrounds strain your eyes just as much as bright fonts on dark backgrounds. I think you can have any color background you want, as long as you choose a proper font color. I prefer a white background with a dark grey font, but not black font.
  25. wehireu
My favorite color is eggshell blue. A blog with light colors, eggshell blue, grass green, and black lettering with some white space is what I often like to look at.
  26. filmasia
my banner is light green, background is white

white. minimal. bland. boring. ... - you get my point.
  34. lavameanslove
I like white with a gray font.
  35. emerson
This is really a silly question. The number 1 rule should be the blog color background should not be the same with font color or else no matter what your color preference your blog end up useless.
  36. herpower
I use blue, and I enjoy reading on green backgrounds, or beige.
