I have decided that I need to lost 10 to 15 pounds. I have put these on since June. What diet though? There are so many out there. Probably low carb is best. What diet do you think works the best and is not unhealthy?

I like Weight Watchers. I think it helps to journal what you eat. I had to lose some weight and I joined WW and it completely changed how I view portions.
I don't think low carb is best. I think learning to eat all foods in proper amounts is the best way to go--because it is lifelong. When you cut out any food/groups of food, it makes you desire them more which inevitably leads to gaining that weight back.
The real key is changing your relationship with food. WW works to do that, I believe. -

There's no secret to it, body needs a set number of calories a day, and will gain weight if you get too much OR if you get too little (up to a point). Avoid sugars and other carbs, and make sure when you buy a low fat -product that the flavor they took out when they took out fat hasn't been replaced by sugars, as they do. (Even weight watchers tend to have a lot of sugars in them.)
Here's something I wrote hopefully in an easy to understand way:

I never knew that about exercise! I guess the main benefits I am getting from exercise then is adding definition and tone.
I am definitely getting enough calories. I would say the main benefit I get from juice dieting is I am giving my digestive system a break. Our digestive systems use 10% of our energy, which is probably why I feel more energised.
Something I have also found beneficial is to vary the calories each day by 100-200 calories, it triggers your metabolism in to working harder. diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Calorie_Shifting
I have never tried following 'calorie shifting' to an absolute tee, but I have found that simply adding or taking away a few each day has really helped me. It also helps your body avoid the yo-yo affect that is usually experienced when you jump from following a diet to your 'normal' eating.

Do some research, get off your lazy ass and go to the gym. Once you know how your body actually works you'll know that eating less is only a short term solution. Going to the gym for a few hours a week is going to make you lose healthy weight and enables you to eat whatever you want (to a degree of course).
Here's a quick sum up: By eating less (or not at all) your body goes into emergency mode, meaning it will draw energy from muscle tissue (not fat reserves, as is commonly believed). So yes, you lose weight, but not healthy weight. On top of that, it doesn't even work in the long run (more on that below).
Now, muscles use about 50% more energy then your fat reserves do. So the more muscle tissue you have, the more energy is needed to keep them going. The more energy is needed the more fat is burned. Can you see where this is going? If you go to the gym and work out, developing a healthy amount of muscle tissue, those muscles will burn enough fat for you to lose weight in the long run and keep it that way if you maintain it.
Also, the body will generally only start tapping into its fat reserves in cases the body needs it, like physical stress (aka, working out). But your body has a fail safe built in so it doesn't use fat reserves when it's not needed, so only starts tapping into those reserves after 10 to 20 minutes of exercise.
So here's gym pro's summed up:
- Working on your muscles gives you more muscle mass, thus using up more energy.
- Working out tells your body to burn fats, but needs a 20 minute notice for it to start doing it's job.
Now, how does a diet make you lose weight?
A diet is designed to make you lose WEIGHT. Doesn't matter what that weight is. And sure most diets do make you lose weight, but it's not the fats that you're losing, it's muscle tissue. Remember how muscles use about 50% more energy then any other tissue in your body? Yeah that's going to kick you in the ass when you stop dieting. When you go back to your normal eater habits, you will have digested a good part of your muscle tissue, creating less of a demand for energy by your body. Yet, after losing the weight, you go back to your regular eating habits, creating an excess of energy (fat) the body needs to store away. In simple terms, you'll put on the weight you lost almost twice as fast.
So, con's of a diet?
- A diet digests the very muscles that burn fat the most.
- Because you eat less, your body compensates by filling up on fat reserves. The minute you start eating normal again, you'll bloat up like a balloon.
So, just get a gym membership. Case solved. -
