Sometimes I feel really really guilty for enjoying it as much as I do, but the facts are the facts - I just LOVE reality television! In all honesty, while I consider most of it "trash TV", there are a few shows that qualify as my favorites, for their thoughtful and exciting competitive elements (eg Survivor, The Amazing Race, etc.).

If you had to choose one, which reality show would you say was your favorite?

*This question isn't intended to attract the attention of those who just want to post about how lame [reality] television is. I happen to be genuinely interested in people's responses.

While I am AVIDLY against reality TV, I am a big supporter of documentary-type production. One that I particularly enjoy (and watch via hulu.com, as I really do not have TV/cable) is 'Intervention'. I cry every time, and honestly it always makes me SO grateful and so hopeful in what people are capable of.

I also enjoyed (not sure if it's still on) Project Runway, because it is so inspirational to see new designers blossom and dig for new ideas. I started watching because a friend of a friend was on the show.
    1. MissSuzie
I am a fan of the show Intervention as well. Makes me feel sane.
    2. Deray28
Project runway is awesome! Haven't heard from the other one you mentioned, I'll look it up

      Intervention makes me weep.

I love Intervention and Project Runway too. I also like First 48 and Parking Wars

Project Runway is still there; it's on Lifetime now instead of Bravo. I watched it last night!

My life is a whole reality show on its own. No need to live vicariously through others.

Small doses of any of the Real Housewives shows because I'm just amazed that these vapid , self absorbed, grossly made up, hideously augmented, nasty mymirdons of bad fashion would allow themselves to be shown to millions of people and not realize that they are being held up for ridicule. Their lack of self awareness is just one more in their legion of unattractive qualities. They offer a strong argument for anti-materialism.

      Wow! Great rant!!
    2. bwhitaker
that WAS, in fact, a superb rant. almost made me feel bad for loving Real Housewives

i simultaneously want to steal rachel zoe's entire closet and send her a giant box of little debbie snacks (not that she'll eat them, probably just give them to her "straight" husband rog.)
    1. laurencefosgate
Yes, almost everyone in Hollywood is straight. If you marry or even date someone of the opposite sex you immediately become straight. It's the magic of media. And pixie dust.
    2. bwhitaker
Oh yeah!!! What was I thinking? I also die for The Rachel Zoe Project too. One question though...how is Taylor not fired every show. She is the most disrespectful thing ever!
  14. laurencefosgate
Those are some scary looking animals. Are they being rescued from prison?
  15. BeamingBalance
I believe most people are closet reality TV junkies. They just pretend to hate them. :-) "I've only seen it because my girlfriend watches." hehe

I'm loud and proud - I LOVE reality TV.

Project Runway, Survivor, Top Chef & SYTYCD are my faves.
  16. BeamingBalance
And Chopped.... and the Next Iron Chef.

    Maybe it's a food thing?
  17. rgoolsby
I'll admit that I like Survivor best!
  18. artseejodee
    Dancing with the stars!
  19. bringbackpluto
    Shark Tank. Love it.

Does American Idol count? My wife and I like that too. But we don't watch every year. It just depends.
    1. bwhitaker
Shark Tank is pretty interesting, but I like the British version better. Ever seen it?
  20. ckent27
Project Runway and My Life on the D-List.
  21. salomey5
My favourite is by far Survivor. I love the scrambling, the plotting, the backstabbing, the secret alliances and so on.
What's great about Survivor is how unpredictable it can be (especially post-merge). One insignificant event can change the whole game around.

I enjoy Big Brother for the same reasons, but I don't follow it closely because it airs in the summer and is on 3 hours per week.

The Amazing Race is another reality show that I find very enjoyable. It's really well made and Phil Keoghan is a cutie.

I also enjoy SYTYCD (although more for the dancing element than the actual competition) and American Idol is good for laughs and giggles.
  22. LarissaEsq
Project Runway. Do the competition shows like that count? I love Project Runway and Top Chef. And for the one season that Blush was on (a makeup competition) I was addicted to it, but that's professional, what with the face painting.
    1. bwhitaker
I watched Blush too...I thought I was the only one. It was good, but I never saw the last episode. I have no idea who won.
  23. LisaNYC
What DollinNYC said. Rescue Ink on National Geographic Channel is great.

I also love Amazing Race, Top Chef, Chopped, The Next Iron Chef, The Next Food Network Star, Deadliest Catch, Survivor, Project Runway, and a few of the train wreck shows on Bravo just for the fun of it....the total freak Rachel Zoe Project and the Unreal Housewives of NYC and NJ.

And in the paranormal department....Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International, Destination Truth, Paranormal State, and Psychic Kids.
  24. lordiwanttobewhole
Hell's Kitchen....I love love love adore Gordon Ramsey, I watch ALL his shows...he could have a show thats all about paint drying and I'd watch it!
  25. bwhitaker
Okay...has anyone (besides me) seen RuPaul's Drag Race??
