What is your favorite scary movie of all time?

Of course, around this time a year I enjoy sitting at home with a box of carmel-mixed popcorn and watching a good scary movie.

My favorite is Stephen's King IT and the Shining. Check out my other favorites on my blog post by clicking my avatar.

The very first "Alien" movie in 1979. I was only 10 years old when my Dad took me to see it... he described it as "sci-fi" but I'm sorry, that is a seriously scary movie.

I love it now though! I hear Ridley Scott is now filming a prequel so they will invent a backstory as to how the alien ship came to planetoid LV-426.

I think "Alien" and "Jaws" are 2 of the best modern monster films ever made.
I also like the psychological aspect of "Saw" (& loved the ending.)

    E.T.

I was 7 and saw E.T. in the cinema in the first row. This alien did scare the hell out of me. I had nightmares a year after and the light had to be every night.

    So try and beat that.

Can't pick a favorite, because most of my favorite movies are scary movies.
Definitely "The Hills Have Eyes", "Hostel", "The Descent" and so on.

      Loved the Descent too!

There are a number of scary movies that have scared me, but the one that made the biggest impression on me was House of Wax with Vincent Price.

I agree - that was also quite good.
I usually try to put myself in the victims shoes and try to live through their eyes. It makes the experience much scarier

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" - seriously.

An organization which has been systematically kidnapping people and stealing everything from aircraft to an ocean liner. The objects are returned, and a meeting is arranged.

A monumentally outsized vehicle arrives, and disgorges - people? - who walk stiffly (you'll notice that, given the lighting, we can't see their faces), and apparently look like people who have been kidnapped over the last several generations. Not one of them speaks. Not a word.

Then, apparently without noticing anything odd about the circumstances, about a half-dozen people walk into the vehicle. Including a Joe Average who started acting very, very strangely right after he was spotted by one of the scout vehicles.

Scary? You bet! There's something really fishy about those aliens - and that goes double with those faceless 'people' who did a zombie-walk out of the ship.

There are a lot - recently saw "Drag me to Hell" and LOVED it!! Just came out on DVD - great horror flick (with some hilarious scenes).

Just saw it a couple of days ago. There were truly some pretty funny scenes, but the point of it was pretty good.

I think I'm gonna go with 'House on the Haunted Hill' (1999) ~ a movie of old asylum where several people are invited to have a party over there.. but in the end, all are killed and only 2 survived :S I like the FX in some scary scenes.

Evil Dead 2 of course. Bruce Campbell is the man. I would also recommend one of his latest flicks My name is Bruce where he plays himself.

Scariest movie of all time is without a doubt Exit to Eden. Rosie O'Donnell in lingerie... just thinking about it sends shivers up my spine.

Many movies frightened me as a child. The most haunting movie I recall is from my 20's in the mid-60's. A little known low-budget black & white movie ca;;ed "Carnival of Souls".

One of the scariest movies i've seen was Hostel...it wasn't ghosty kind of scary like the Shining or The Exorcist, but it was scary in the way that something like that could really happen somewhere.

Exactly. That's why I liked it also. You can never be 100% sure that something like that isn't happening for real somewhere.
