robertsons steak and chop spice - I think its a south african brand. It's just as addictive as the 11 herbs and spices on KFC. On that note the steak and chop spice is also good on chicken.

can you get that in a normal supermarket in the states?
    2. Sam1982
Im not too sure, I'm not from the states - but if its any help to you Im pretty sure its a common brand in south africa, so if you were looking for it, the best place to find it would be in the international food section if your supermarket has one, or I would try and find a store that imports south african foods

Hi everybody - please check out this guys blog, he's not kidding.

I read a little of a post (I'm not a cooking fan at all) here's an excerpt from some kind of grilling walkthrough -

"Flip every thirty minutes and replenish the coals as needed. DO NOT add more lighter fluid, retard."

I am an instant fan. I never met a cook before who was such an asshole!

LOLOL now you've inspired me to go read it!

Saffron. Shame it is so incredibly expensive.
    1. Sam1982
forgive me if any of my details are wrong - you're from scotland right? is saffron used quite a bit over there? I've seen gordon ramsey use it in just about everything and im assuming he's of scottish decent by the sound of his mothers accent whom he has on his shows.
    2. polybore
It is popular in Scotland because of the popularity of Asian and Mediterranean food. Saffron is not really associated with traditional Scottish food although it has been used as a dye for fabrics in Scotland for centuries.

Do you guys and gals have Nandos Chicken franchise in your countries? Again a south african franchise ( im sounding like their ambassador or something ) But damn their hot peri peri chicken is like crack or something. Its the one resturant where I could really pig out ( and feel sorry for myself the next day )
    1. aningeniousname
Nah but I have had Peri peri chicken it's Portuguese isn't it?
    2. Sam1982
Yes it is portuguese, but the Nandos story says that they introduced peri peri ( or piri piri ) to S.A and brought their recipes along with them. So they've claimed it as their own. I've had peri peri chicken before and believe me you haven't had peri peri chicken until you've had Nandos peri peri chicken
    3. aningeniousname
      You're making me hungry now.
    4. Sam1982
Me too - I could go for some now, and a side of peri peri fries and a Jug of millers to wash it all down.

Garam masala and maggi cubes are favorites of mine. I also like apple pie spice. Most times I mix blends from scratch, but it's nice to have some combinations in the can.

something called (not kidding) Hasim Rahman Hot & Spicy Rock Spice

they have it on the tables at a local diner and the stuff is great. Very very spicy, adds heat to anything and you only need a touch or your mouth, throat, and eyes burn. I bought a shaker of it from them so I could have it at home.
    1. polybore
Sounds like you should sell it for use as a self defence weapon.

I love garlic.. in every dish

on a different note but somewhat related.. I once blogged about the origins of Ginger and Garlic according to Hindu Mythology.. Factual inaccuracies, as expected from Mythological stories are abundant..

Apologies for the shameless link dropping, but do give it a read
