I like quite a lot of different animals. I don't really have a favourite one, but I think I would like to. That's why I'm asking the question - What is your favourite animal, and why is it your favourite?

The cat family, from cats to tigers.
And that includes my wife who can impersonate all of them, depending of her mood...

I like caterpillars. They are small and varied. They have a little bit of creep factor, but it is neat to hold them in your hand. I like having them in my garden, and I know they will eventually become something beautiful.

As far as animals I encounter daily, definitely cats. They are loving and sweet in their own way. I went to the zoo last weekend. The most interesting animals were:
1) the gorillas-they act just like old men
2) baboons-they are very curious and there was one about 3 times as large as the others. My grandmother visited the zoo with me when I was young. Her eyesight was poor, and she remarked, "Look at those monkeys with red faces!" Lol!
3) sea lions
4) otters
5) cougars -

panda bears!!! I have a live cam of them on one of my private blogs. My nick name is Princess Panda, which later turned into "Pander".

"A Liger...It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic." - ND

Despite my allergies, I think my favourite animals are the cats. Horses are a close second.
But I have three sweet little dogs because "hair" dogs don't shed or have dander so my allergies are kept at bay. -

While male parakeets tend to talk better than female parakeets do, both can certainly talk! It requires a lot of patience to teach budgies to talk. -

When I was in Africa, a friend of mind had a monkey.
They're smart and hence make nice companionship.
If you do not mind frequent tantrums, that is, they're toddlers.
And they get pretty strong when they get older, but still are toddlers.
And well, it is not really easy to deal with a toddler that is sronger than you... -
I love horses, they are wonderful!!

I like quite a few animals. But what I don't like are bats (every kind), creepy-crawlies, snakes, and stuff like that. My top animals though would have to be: Horses, cats, dogs, birds(every kind except vultures), bunnies, and dolphins. I love the GEICO GECKO too! lol!

The summary so far: It looks like cats and dogs are coming out as the popular favourites. I suppose we don't have to look far for the explanation to this. People in general clearly seem to value animals that have snuggleability.
Thus animals such as panthers, tigers, wolves, mooses, spiders, geckoes, leopards, caterpillars etc, though they may often be visually attractive and also may have excellent and admirable qualities, such as survival skills or resourcefulness, are often a less than safe bet for a good cuddle.
Horses are a great favourite with some, despite the fact that it is rather awkward to try to fall asleep with one while watching a soap on the telly. One big surprise is that no-one seems to have mentioned bears of any kind. Though there have been so MANY replies here that a bear may well have slipped in and I missed it. -
no fave animal but i have hermit crabs (umang) back home.

This thread was empty of bears,
Bare of bears,
Beareft of bears.
Once there were no bears,
Now there are many bears.
We are rich in bears,
No longer paw in bears.
No break from bears,
Just bears without paws,
How shall we bear it?
We should not pander to this.
We have laid bear the bear faced lies
Of those who would disallow the bears.
Of their writings, let no sentence nor
Su-bear-dinate claws remain.
Bear up, bear arms, or else fight them bear-knuckle.
Pelt them with stones
Fight fur the rites of the bear.
I know this has no bearing,
It is a polar opposite
of my normal bearhavior.
But please, bear with me... -
I LOVE elephants...I saw this family in Kruger National Park in South Africa..
