God according to Church of Satan

Hmmmm ... sounds like someone's on the way to hell with gasoline undies on.
    2. Epicharis
WRONG. The Church of Satan is an atheistic self-determining organisation. Satanists don't believe in a being called Satan, they use 'Satan' to represent the opposite of Christianity, so by 'Satan' they mean real-life and earthly wisdom as opposed to fantastical non-existent beings and 'knowledge'. I can't believe so many people still don't know what Satanism is!
    3. voodooKobra
Well, there are a few theistic Satanists, but they're more of a Christian denomination than anything.
    4. Epicharis
That isn't anything to do with the Church of Satan, though.

A story my parents used to tell me...

I just blogged about it, actually! I've got this pretty cool audio of my Dad teaching me to fear the devil when I was a kid.. You can hear the terror in my voice .. It's great! Having this audio did much to help me in understanding why I had so much fear. Helped me get over all that nonsense.

Kinda new.. so I'm unsure of whether I'm "allowed" to post a link to my blog. Gonna go for it. You can do it if it's on topic, right?

      Here goes!

I think the Devil is a very handsome person on the outside.

The Devil is the 15th card of the Major Arcana, and represents our bondage to material things rather than any imaginary evil persona. It also indicates an obsession or addiction to fulfilling our most base earthly desires.

The Devil is the card of self-bondage to any idea or belief which is preventing us from growing and maturing. It can also be a warning to someone who is too restrained and/or dispassionate and never allows him or herself to be rash or wild or ambitious, which is yet another form of enslavement.
    1. dinsquared

      @TT
I don't think it's wise to say that the Devil doesn't exist cos millions and millions of people believes that the Devil exist.

It may be accounted to abusing someone's belief.
    3. timethief
I have a right to my disbelief and they have a right to their belief. It's as simple as that.

Ideas, theories and beliefs are not necessarily truths.
A belief is not an idea held by the mind; it is an idea that holds the mind.
    4. voodooKobra
[I don't think it's wise to say that the Devil doesn't exist cos millions and millions of people believes that the Devil exist.]

two sides - good and evil.
    1. AngieA
      Fczamoora, I agree.
There is always 2 sides to EVERYTHING.

The Devil doesn’t actually exist is just “timethief” own personal belief or comment.
However, others such as myself do believe the devil and evil exist. Just like there is good there is evil and I’ll even go as far as to say that I don’t hold that “idea” in my mind but rather the idea that he does not exist is held by those who are in bondage of the thought that he doesn’t exist.
      Oh - O
Now before you go and get your feathers all ruffled up, keep in mind it is also my right to say so.
Though, I don’t “think” he exist, … it’s more of a, “ I know he does”. So this particular subject doesn’t fall into that category of an idea or theory. That’s the difference.
    2. jfinn1319
black and white; not the most intelligent of positions to argue from.

Since god apparently created everything and is everything and is in everything, how can anything be separate from god? And therefore if god is good, how can anything be evil?
    3. jfinn1319
      @ AngieA

"Though, I don’t “think” he exist, … it’s more of a, “ I know he does”. So this particular subject doesn’t fall into that category of an idea or theory."

You don't KNOW though, that's the point. To know means to have actual knowledge. Which you don't. You have an idea, that you believe in to be sure, but you have nothing to support it other than your feelings, so to say you "know" and that it's not that kind of idea or theory....that's just silly and makes you sound more than a little ridiculous.

The Devil is He who defends God.
    1. Anok
Interestingly enough, Lucifer, or "the challenger" was originally God's own District attorney for lack of a better description. He was charged with checking in on the humans, and, was charged with testing the human's faith in God.

So he did indeed defend, and enforce God originally.
    2. LynneaUrania
You got it, Girl! And there is a Jewish legend about a man who lost his livelihood. His only daughter was raped and murdered. His wife died of a debilitating disease that bankrupted him. Like Job, he had a complaint against God. So he brought a Beth Din together to hear his complaint. And only one showed up to defend God. You know who!
    3. dinsquared
@LynneaUrania - this legend doesn't ring true or make sense. There is no "devil" in Judaism, and the concept of evil isn't a terribly important one.
    4. LynneaUrania
Nevertheless, this is a legend from a Jewish source. Jews play with vernacular ideas as much as anyone else, even if there is no devil per se in Judaism.

  16. Stillthinking
I once had a Sunday school teacher explain to me that the Devil is anything that draws you away from God. In other words, humanism and science was the devil to him.

Then I had a philosophy professor talk about the binary relationship between God and the devil in Judeo Christian history. You cannot have ultimate good without the existence of ultimate evil. Heaven cannot exist without hell. Black cannot exist without white. Hot cannot exist without cold.

Then I had a very religious friend tell me that if you are not sure about the existence of God but were afraid of going to hell, you believed in the devil more than you believed in God.

I don't know who is right. I tend to lean more towards the philosophy prof's argument as it covers both belief and non belief.
    1. LynneaUrania
This reminds me of times when I've challenged Christians to get real about their apparent attribution of greater power to the Devil than the God they claim to honor. Remember how in Romans 9:13, Paul quotes Isaiah, saying, "Jacob I loved but Esau I hated?" Looking at the words translated, I'm satisfied that in both cases, the word intended really is "hated" and not something else.

If God ever hated anybody as the Bible says He did, then He must either be the Lord of Hate or a servant of the Lord of Hate. There is no other logical possibility.

Since God is regarded as Lord of All, then there is no chance that God can be a servant of the Lord of Hate. I'm compelled to accept that God who is called a God of Love is every bit as much a God of Hate.

Some Christians are ready to accuse me of blasphemy at that point. But think further. Who do so many Christians present as the God of Hate? Unless confronted otherwise, Christians will usually affirm that the God of Hate is the Devil.

If that be true, then God is not the God of Hate. And God becomes the servant of the Devil.

Since I'm the one inclined to reject this view, and since so many Christians apparently accept it without thinking it through, I have to ask who the blasphemer really is.

It's amazing how a "fallen angel" like the Devil is given more credit than he deserves.
    2. dinsquared
You can't talk about a religious concept in terms of "Judeo Christian", and the devil is a religious concept. There is no "binary concept between God and the devil" in Judaism, because there is no devil, nor is there a Hell.

  19. jfinn1319
Ummmm, I've always wondered a couple of things about the devil.

    1) Since the devil was originally an angel (sripturally) and angels (scripturally) don't have free will, how could Lucifer (the devil/Satan) possibly decide to rebel against God. Don't you need, you know, free will to decide things?

    2) Since the devil (scripturally and in literature) is said to punish evil souls (which may or may not exist) why does he get the bad guy treatment? Doesn't that just make him a prison guard?

Follow the bouncing ball; there is no bogeyman.

    Sleep tight.

Initially, a simplistic construct to demonstrate an abstract concept to minds insufficiently sophisticated to grasp that concept without a concrete analogy. Over time, that analogy has come to be taken literally.
    1. AProvisionOfGod

    My interpretation of "The Devil"

Look at the word again for: "EVIL", then add the 'D' for "Devil."
    Coincidence?

Now look at GOD. Sounds similar to "GOOD."

    Coincidence? I think not.
    1. SweetViolet
Except you've got it backwards...and it only works in English. I don't think you'll find such similarities in French or Spanish...or Chinese, for that matter.

"Good bye" is a modern contraction of "God be with ye," so the word "good," in this kind of usage, evolves from the word "god," not the other way around.

Nice try, but specious etymologies do not a belief prove.
    2. archiegottlieb
just to entertain this egregiously bad interpretation: "evil" is an anagram for "live" which is etymologically related to "life." and "god" is anagram for "dog" which can also mean a worthless and contemptible person.
  26. insomia

The Correct Definition is "the unsatisfied souls".

Have you ever heard that there are male and female devils, some gender difference is also there among them.

Have you ever heard "your door knocked by someone in the midnight", or have you heard the screaming sounds of people in the midnight (actually there will be no one) , have you ever felt that some one is approaching you from backside when you are walking alone in the midnight, do you get too many wet dreams, have you heard the childs crying voice in the midnight this is all because of devils. The Unsatisfied souls.

I am an expert in deviology ( Study of devils), if you have any question regarding their behavior please feel free to ask me.

Devils are also naughty they do comedy , serious and revenge acts. They get satisfied or they feel happy when one of the devil teases any human being. they keep competitions among themselves like who will tease many human beings , make them suffer and cry.

This kind of acts when one does with us we say them as don't be devilish or don't act like a devil( Unnatural acts.)
    1. SweetViolet
      An expert in non-existent beings...riiiiight!

The beauty of this kind of claim is that you can make up just anything you want and there is nothing empirical to refute you. Of course, there is nothing empirical to support you, either.

Are you having us on, or are you delusional and really believe this?

      (SweetViolet backs away slowly...)

"Have you ever heard "your door knocked by someone in the midnight", or have you heard the screaming sounds of people in the midnight (actually there will be no one) , have you ever felt that some one is approaching you from backside when you are walking alone in the midnight, do you get too many wet dreams, have you heard the childs crying voice in the midnight this is all because of devils. 29. Kingjoe
The devil is a fear or an illusion created by religion. It was designed to make you believe, have faith in something or face this thing in the firey underworld that doesn't exist.
It was smart, you only need to look at the history of religion which tells you a shocking story.
  30. freudpsyche
ya I do believe this .

In paranormal psychology this kind of behavior is called has DELUSIONS. But they do exist . People born on particular days and date of birth they can really see them with naked eye. But very few to say.

And those who practice occult sciences can also see this kind of things.

Our film directors what they make ghost films are true to certain extent they do all research work before working on script, they consult occults and clairvoyants .

And you may wonder there is one academy in London called "Sorcery Academy" which teaches occult science.

Just type the words "sorcery academy" in google search you see lot of things there.

when the harry potter film series became hit some universities planned to put it as one course as their one academy program.
  31. SweetViolet
Um...you can take courses in Greek and Roman mythology...it doesn't mean the Greek and Roman gods really existed.

If you truly believe in this stuff and truly fancy yourself an expert, then my personal opinion would be that you are probably delusional and would benefit from antipsychotic medication and psychiatric counselling.

But that's just my opinion, and I am known to have a very dim view of people who take this stuff too seriously.
    1. freudpsyche

  34. chispeak
I was raised Catholic, but do not necessarily believe in the traditional Hell scenario. I believe that there is such a thing as immorality or evil in this era of relativism and atheism, and that there are general maxims which a majority of cultures seem to emulate as proper conduct. However, it is not always possible to understand something beyond us, something we are not comfortable to leave undefined, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive toward ideals. Humans, in my opinion, are generally peaceful and balanced, both emotionally and rationally. The devil then becomes something entirely intrinsic, a controllable motivation that overtakes the natural state of a person and results in actions that are harmful toward themselves or others, whether knowingly or not.

An analogy in psychoanalytic terms(though I am not a firm believer in psychodynamics) would be as though the Id were able to convince the Superego that its way was right, and the Ego was left with nothing to mediate, only a build-up of one extreme.

Prayers do work , its kind of mysterious to some people
    1. Epicharis
according to the experiment run by a Christian institute...prayers do not work...
  57. jflower36
When someone says "prayer doesn't work", what they usually mean is that they didn't get what they asked for. God can say no to a prayer because He has a better plan or He can say wait. Other reasons that God doesn't answer prayer include, but are not limited to:

James 4:2b-3 "You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you can spend it on your pleasures."

1 John 5:14 "And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us".

No matter what we ask for, if it isn't His will the answer will be no. But believe me...that's not a bad thing! I can think of prayers that I prayed asking for things that I wanted at the time...only to see now how bad those things would have been for me.

I seriously doubt they were able to incorporate those things into a study.
    1. Epicharis
so...if you get what you prayed for it was god...if you don't get what you prayed for it was still god...hmm

Whats crazy is to think you where put here out of fart in the wind. I mean sure its ok for you not to believe in Jesus and God. Everyone of us has their own opinion of course. But you have got to say that some higher being or intelligence put you here. Even scientist are starting to finally recognize this after studying for years of the DNA strand. Look at it this way man made the car, man made computers etc.. Some higher being then ourselves had to put us here.
Now for myself I believe in God , as far as prayers yes they do work because they have worked for me. But when you sit there and ask for a billion dollars just because God is suppose to just give it to you? of course not. Another thing is you have to have true faith as well.

@SiuilARuin now you can't find anything else to argue about? Trust me I am not trying to convert you to any religion, but think about it for a minute. How in the world where you put on the face of this earth? Besides your mami and daddy making out and you coming along nine months later. Did the human race come along like a fart in the wind or what? OF course theres a higher being. Scientist call it a higher intelligence. Religious folks like me call it God.

Labeling something that you don't understand as an act of God is so last millenia. The Geeks couldn't explain how the sun moved across the sky so of course that was an act of a god. You can't figure out how we got here so of course that is an act of a god... However this big rock ended up with stuff all over it's surface happened so long ago that no one truely knows how it happened, it really isn't terribly important either. It's as good an arguement as any really, I mean look what were dealing with here.
  65. jflower36
becthomasphotograp, only geeks would think the sun moved across the sky!

But seriously, believing in God is not cliche. And trust me..you won't think that when you face Him one day.
    1. Epicharis
I thought the non-believers never got to meet him? we just get lots of torture and hell?
    2. dsriharsha
I hope I never meet him.. if this would be my fate
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=urlTBBKTO68
    3. Epicharis
      haha! Harsha that was fantastic!
    4. becthomasphotograp
      Greeks, geeks .....

Jflower I do feel sorry for how disappointed you'll be when you die and find out that there is no one to face for deities are nothing but an illusion, just like Apollo who the Greeks now know does not drag the sun across the sky.
    5. Epicharis
      she won't be disappointed...she won't be anything...
  66. jflower36
S there is a judgment day.

Revelation 20:12,13 "Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books."
    1. Epicharis
...I really struggle to understand how anyone can believe something like that in this age.
  67. jflower36
Why is it less true in this age? Do technology and gains in science make God less true. No. Really, as far as people go, "there is nothing new under the sun". But until someone has really studied the bible to see if it could possibly be true...not much I can say.
    1. Epicharis
we're in an age of information...an age of knowledge...putting your life in the hands of an ancient text that is no different from all the other ancient religions that have been abandoned...it just seems barmy!
  68. jflower36
Have you read that ancient text...and I mean enough to find out if there is something to it?
    1. Epicharis
not really...I got as far as Noah....but everything that's ever been quoted at me has made me feel like it's bullsh*t...The Odyssey seems more convincing...
    2. becthomasphotograp
I actually have, but then again I'm an Atheist because I was educated in history and religions.
    3. dsriharsha
      yeah..
I use this as a reference to understand the christian scriptures : skepticsannotatedbible.com/
and this for Islam : skepticsannotatedbible.com/quran/index.htm

Unfortunately, no such reference exists for the Hindu scriptures yet, maybe I should start one myself
    4. becthomasphotograp
Hindu makes me bang my head against a wall....
    5. dsriharsha
      @becthomas..

The Hindu mythology is more vast and more wonderful than you can imagine..

The Greek/Norse don't even compare to it both in terms of the number of tales or the diversity in them.

You should read some Hindu tales some time.. though keeping in mind that they are all works of fantasy and nothing more.

@bechthomasphotograp You where educated in history and religion so it makes you an expert all of a sudden? Since when do you think you know everything about history and religion from taking a couple of classes? I have taken Humanities Relgions of the World and World History but who cares really? That has nothing to do with someones belief in faith and God. What so what you are saying is that the human race just magically appeared out of nowhere right? Where just suppose to be some cosmic bang that we just happened to appear out of a mear accident? With so many things keeping us just right in this universe its dumb to think that there is no higher being out there as scientist now are starting to realize for themselves from the study of a DNA strand. Besides how can something that is good and positive be bad?
    1. becthomasphotograp
For all you no I am an expert, I could have a dr. in the topic for all you know, you shouldn't assume things. I declared that my very good education into religion and history is what sealed my atheism, you don't have to like it but it's the way it is.

I never said the human race magically appeared, you are the one that said that by claiming a god did it. I said that I don't know or care how we got here but I'm certain that it happened so long ago that know one really know the truth behind it.

What exactly are you claiming as being positive and good?

      @thefiveelements
Every time you post a link I wonder "according to whom?"
      (1) What is the name of the organization you represent?
      (2) Where is its registered office?
      (3) What are the names of the people in the executive positions your organization?
      (4) Where is the funding for your organization derived from?
      (5) Does your organization have tax free status?

@reader timethief: The only information I can provide you with at this time in regard to your questions, is that, there is a “Spiritual Big Bang” that is soon to come, and our suggestion to anyone is to read “The Five Elements” to prepare yourself for the inevitable change that is soon to come.
    1. Friday13
I recommend watching The Fifth Element instead. That is such a great film!

      Super green!

Fictional character people blaim for their own failings to avoid responsibility
    1. Epicharis
I agree wholeheartedly. It's a way of externalising 'evil' thoughts and deeds and making someone else responsible for them.
  77. nothingprofound
We are each our own devil and we make this world our hell.
    1. dsriharsha

    Ever seen the Passion?

That is exactly how I've always seen the devil. Seductively beautiful, handsome, delicate, and deceitful wrapped all together in misery and woe.

He's a fallen angel who has his demons deceive people and keep them away from God spiritually.
  80. lnclark1950
He was one of the most beautiful creatures God created. His beauty and inteligence got the best of him and he decided he could do it better. He persuaded millions of angels to follow him and they are now known as demons.

He is a created being that is limited in what he can do. He can only be in one place at any time. He cannot do anything unless teh Creator allows him to. He is powerful but yet has no power of his own.

One day he and his demons will no longer have any power.

He was defeated by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He had no idea what God was going to do through Jesus and was caught completely off guard when God allowed his plan to kill Jesus went through but then Jesus rose from the dead.

I can just hear him that day, "curses foiled again!"
