We citizens in the USA have some hard choices ahead of us when we go to vote in the 2008 General Elections. In my post tonight at People Power Granny I discuss many of the numbers associated with the major issues on my radar screen. Let me know what issues get you riled, and vote in my poll.

I think the over-riding issue will be the role of the USA in world affairs.

The economy. We are barely above water because of the rebates. By August the rebates will have moved through the economy, and layoffs will be in full swing. Interest rates will be climb in anticipation of the Feds raising rates, and the housing market will continue to be in a funk.

People will be scrambling for ways to take on more credit (debt), as home equity loan line of credits are reduced by the banks, because of depreciation of housing assets. Inflation will be in full swing, as imports raise in price.

People are going to be in the deepest part of their pain, and there is little the Feds. Treasury, or Congress can do about it. Corporations and individual balance sheets are over leveraged and in shambles as assets (including the stock market) lose value. The worse possible condition. The economy will not start recovering until way after the election.

The only good news, will be a reduction in gas and fuel prices as the Feds drain the economy of dollars (forcing the recession), and speculation is wrung out of the commodities market. The stock market will recover somewhat as dollars flow from oil to stocks.

All in all, a completely disastrous environment for the incumbent Presidential party (Republicans). Remember, you read here first. Fair and Balanced as always.

Issue 1 will be "it's the economy"
Issue 2 will be fuel and food cost
Issue 3 will be home foreclosures
Issue 4 will be job losses, slowing economy, plant closures
This election will be decided on pocket book issues
Much of which is based in government over spending, war funding, welfare cost and the never ending illegal alien problem.
Drug traffickers in a turf war on both sides of our southern border.

The price of fuel. The economy is only an issue if you're out of work, but the price of fuel affects everyone. Saudi Arabia announced plans to increase oil production, which should affect prices just in time for the elections. Coincidence?
