Keyword research is an important step for me. I also make sure that I have the right amount of main keywords on my web pages. I use this keyword density checker at www.webtoolhub.com/tn561367-keyword-density-checker.aspx to make sure that I am not overstuffing. I also make sure that my title and contents are relevant.
