I'm interested to find out what the trend for 2009 will be considering we are in recession.

Will people be looking to purchase investable pieces of jewellery (price of gold is up) or carry on with more affordable fashion jewellery, which they can afford more of?

Over the past year fashion jewellery has continued to be immensely popular - do you think this trend will continue or die off?

I'd be interested to hear from other bloggers with jewellery sites on this one as well as anyone else who has an opinion.

I think fashion jewellery will trump fine, at least in volume of sales. The economy is tight and I don't think most people can justify spending $5000 on a pair of gold bracelets, ya know?

I expect old standards like diamond engagement rings will continue to sell, but I look at my collection of "fine" pieces and, quite honestly, in a falling economy I would not be able to justify buying them this year. But I have quite a large collection of costume jewellery, especially earrings.

I rarely wear jewelry, but occasionally I find something I really love, and I usually buy it if I can afford it. I go soley based on how each individual piece looks. Right now I only have one necklace that I love, and it's the only thing I wear.

Up to this point, I have always worn primarily fashion jewelry, but my boyfriend who I have dated for 6 months has bought me a lot of fine jewelry as of lately. It is a nice change! Necklaces are my favorite kind of jewelry.

I hardly wear jewelry at all. Once in a while I put on a talisman.

I wear a silver chain, its just there...i'm not into jewelry....i either lose it or it gets broke or doesn't fit my lifestyle.

I love .925 sterling silver...I have a ring that I wear every single day, no matter the outfit. I also wear fashion jewelry, but not as much...and when I do I just wear it once, put it away and use again throughout the following months...in other words, I don't wear the same fashion jewelry every day, like I wear my sterling silver! I don't follow trends either. There are many jewelry companies (direct sales) out there that offer lovely fashion jewelry. Some quite expensive like Lia Sophia, Latasia and others not so expensive like Cookie Lee and Its Just Jewelry...My favorites for sterling silver are Hermosa Sterling & Morgan Dane!

The only jewelry I wear is if it means something to me. Otherwise I might put a different necklace or a ring for a special occasion.

When I dress up I wear the good stuff. Pearl earrings and necklace. Most days I don't wear earrings I do wear mine and my grams wedding and engagement rings every day.

hi..I've just started my own blog seling handmade fashion jewellery and silver items. i think it will never go out of trend,in fact it is growing day by day! There is still a huge potential market for them. Well, coz not everybody can afford expensive real jewellery, right? And you can keep changing yr style everyday with fashion jewellery without busting yr budget

I dunno - but I stumbled on STEAMROLLERPunk's blog in here-- I'll see if I can find it - and there was some REALLY cool stuff on there.

    I wear BOTH.

I have diamonds that I love - and gold jewelry. BUT - I also like my long danglies and Bling stuff.

I wear both. It's a simple way to look nicer without having to spend a lot of money. You can find both sterling and fashion jewelry that is reasonable. Most people I know do not want to spend a lot of money when they are buying jewelry for themselves. They have families and usually don't spend money on personal purchases. They don't feel as guilty spending $20 on a necklace as they would for one costing over $100.

I love wearing fashion jewelry and necklace is definitely a part of my life. Not a chance you can catch me without a piece of fashion jewelry on me.

My wedding ring was purchased at a second hand store by me...its very unique and rustic looking. I have to get a picture of it to share. It only cost $28.00!

I agree! We purchase fine jewelry at auctions and estate sales. Not only do I *love* the craftsmanship of older pieces, but the price is absolutely more reasonable.

My wedding ring twinset is from the 1920s and my engagement ring was an antique as well.

Wow! That is so neat! I would love to see a picture of your wedding ring.

personally, i only wear fine jewelry.
  17. JenniferWrites
I mostly own fine jewelry, but I'm slowly learning to make my own because it's more cost effective that way and it's also nice to have creative control over what I wear.

I think we will see a huge increase in plastic jewelry, like the stuff you find in the gumball machines at the supermarket. Big, shiny, gaudy, plastic jewelry will be all the rage next spring. Remember you heard it here first
