Do you enjoy fireworks shows at Christmas or just on the 4th of July?

Would you rather manage your own exploding entertainment with a local fireworks display (like in your own backyard) or attend events that include a public fireworks display?

What is favorite kind of fireworks?

Roman Candles?

Sparklers?

Sparkling Fountains?

Red Devil Firecrackers?

I've never seen fireworks on Christmas, but I've seen them on New Years and the 4th of July.

Generally, I'd prefer some sort of public event -- they're usually designed a lot better, and they're somewhat safer than backyard displays.

Public events are nice, but they are so crowded!

Depends on the event. When I lived in Florida, we used to go down to the gulf and watch the fireworks they launched out over the water. Wasn't really crowded, because you could see them anywhere that bordered the bay.

Roman Candles are the best lol!

I like them until some wise acre gets the bright idea to aim them at spectators. Don't laugh. It happens.

None. I loathe them all, and especially the noise makers.

What do you like least? The sulfurous odor, that they are a fire hazard or the possibility of blowing off a finger?
    2. jan4insight
      The noise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    None fireworks should be banned.
    1. msbaby
For what reasons? See above comment.

I am sick to death of the constant bang of teenage fireworks. there isn't a a Nov, Dec or Jan night that isn't filled with the constant bang of cheap easily available fireworks.
If people need to see fireworks they should go to a proper display, they shouldn't be available for any idiot to buy.

Are you one of the brave (and maybe fingerless) who like to hold them in your hand to fire them off or do you follow proper safety procedures and poke them into the ground for launch?

I like the fireworks that goes on in asian congress sessions or city halls.
    1. msbaby
How are the Asian fireworks at these events different from others? What sets them apart?

If I could, I would celebrate every holiday with fireworks! I love 'em all, Roman candles, fountains, sparklers...I especially love getting together with people and setting off your own fireworks!

I don't enjoy the loud kind, but the pretty ones I could enjoy everyday! People who don't observe proper safety procedures or environmental conditions ruin it for everyone else.

I like the huge colorful ones! Looks so pretty. And it has a cute sound too. Don't know what it is called though.
    1. msbaby
Are you saying that the fireworks make a cute sound? Is it like a shrill whistle?
    2. TZY
Yes, they kind of make a cute sound. You're right about the whistle sound. Lol.

I live near Disneyland and Anaheim Stadium. We hear fireworks every night at 9:30 and thereafter much of the time. For me, they are no novelty. For my roomate; who woke up in Chulai, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive; the very sound of fireworks makes him irritable. More than once I have had to hold him when he wakes up screaming.

I think that relocation might be a good thing for your friend. I have seen veterans dealing with post traumatic stress suffer extreme reactions to less stimuli.

An interesting perspective to be sure.

The ones which I don't have to handle. I rather like watching the large fireworks dispalys at night.

I prefer to leave the pyrotechnic fun to the professionals. I can remember having a lot of fun shooting fireworks on a beach a long time ago where there was no danger of fire, etc.
  10. msbaby
Do they let people shoot fireworks on public beaches? Where I live they won't let individuals bring them on government land or set them off inside the city limits.
  11. Thundercatt99
Mortars, bottle rockets, Roman Candles ...

And our preferred day of shooting them off is New Years Eve and others will be joining in!
    1. msbaby
Mortars? Can you describe them? I'm not familiar with those.
    2. Thundercatt99
Mortars are those things that is fired like a missile - from a mortar barrel - up to 500 ft in the air. Once at the peak it explodes into either a canopy of color or a number of other effects, which can whistle, crackle or explode again! Cool stuff!

I believe that you just described one of my favorites. It's so neat when you hear the crowd's reaction when the "blossoms" explode in the night sky.

That kind of fireworks show is VERY expensive. I have heard that some of the cities spend close to one hundred thousand dollars on their 4th of July show.

LOVE the fireworks at the Mickey-not-so-scary-Halloween celebration at Disney world. Otherwise sparklers, I get to nervous with small children around for any other fireworks.

It's usually cold here at Christmas; we don't see too many fireworks then. Probably most people would be worried about accidentally hitting Santa or the reindeer.

I like the professional Fourth of July fireworks displays, but I could do without my neighbors drunken impromptu fireworks displays around two o'clock in the morning on every other weekend during the summer.

I love to watch fireworks. I dont quite know their names but I like the big flower types. I get to see them during New Year Celebration and Independence Day in my country

Any I can get my hands on, they are illegal here in Australia except for one weekend a year in the Australian Capital Territory.
