    Repeated failure.
Sorry, but it's true, we learn from our mistakes.
    1. MadameX
No idea whether it's true or not, but I've heard Thomas Edison quoted as saying he'd learned 2,000 ways not to make a light bulb.

      I agree! Thanks for sharing.

    Hard work.

Rolling a natural 20 on your Bluff check.

Surely the first step toward success is the idea or dream of something being fulfilled or created. The next step is repeatedly trying to reach for the prize. The final step is attaining the goal and believing that the achievement was worth your hard effort and faith.

Very true and stop calling me Shirley.
Don't forget that necessity is the mother of invention. May also be the step mom of success

Like that Dyson commercial and all of his failed prototypes. I love his voice and he is weirdly exciting or perhaps masculine. Love those British accents. I am a hopeless romantic.

I have a cousin Shirley. Surely you did not think I was calling you that you silly boy.
    3. ekim941
Oh Dyson sucks I just can't resist a good pun.
You could call me cousin, surely but not cousing shirley
    4. Theresa111
Cousing? You mean ... surely, but not Cousin Shirley. Right?

    Purpose, preparation, and commitment.

Sounds a bit like a military ensemble.
    2. devin212
Didn't consider that, but you're right.

"Success is going from failure to failure without loosing enthusiasm", Winston Churchill. I agree, complete determination against all odds.

I dont want success because it is fleeting give me a moment in time when I am totally accepting of who I am and where I am that is lasting
    1. Theresa111
What a worthy sentiment and one which most of us share. How have you been RobinJ?

Waking up above ground each day.
    1. Norski
      Bingo!!

      Well said.

Actually, as I see it, waking up dead isn't 'non-success,' it's life's endgame.
    2. TonyB
I like that! Check & Mate.
  9. Norski
You didn't ask, but: What leads to success?

    Failure.

    Then, trying something else.

Success is a meaningless concept unless there's a specific goal to measure it against. Being "a success" in life is just one of those meaningless concepts that keeps us too busy chasing achievement to get on about living life.

I like to use Abraham Lincoln as a model of success when I talk about this subject with my kids and other people. In my opinion, he represents perseverance in the quest for success. He failed so many times, but never gave up and in the end, he was (and still is) a success.

**Good resource, "Think and Grow Rich" written by Napoleon Hill back in 1937 (inspired by Andrew Carnegie). Very good book about some of the leading industrialists of the early 20th century and their views of success and how to achieve it.

A combination of dogged persistence, and being prepared to take advantage of lucky breaks. People have to be ready to take advantage of the opportunities that come their way. Everyone gets them.

the will to get there... a lot of optimism and faith to fuel the fire and keep on moving onwards even after several times of failure...

and i think, the ability to recognize when the thing you are pursuing is already a lost cause.

I think to be successful it's helpful to define success by picturing yourself on your deathbed - looking back over your life. What will be imporant to you then: money, power, influence, family? Once you figure that out, the rest is down hill.

Some people do much of the things in the video and 'succeed' but we don't always hear about the ones who do all this and don't 'succeed'. Usually rich people are ruthless and have a certain amount of luck. Other people work hard all their lives but don't get the luck factor.

I would say the best success is actually being happy with what you do. Happiness is a rare commodity.

Success doesn't come easy on the road of everyone's life. There is failure and mistake in the past on every succesful peoples today. They have their own hard way past story. And one thing we should not forget, there is rise and fall in every human beings' life. Failure is not always a pillar of success, if we don't know how to learn from our failure and mistakes. Experience, wisdom, hard working and zealness leads to success.

Success means different things to different people so to quantify what leads to success I would have to say 'coming up with a viable definition of the word "success" that incorporates all viewpoints and meanings from all peoples either deceased, living or in the future'.

But other than that I agree with myriadlife - I would regard being happy with what I did and contented with what I have as success.

Successs Defined by Tom Hopkins:/How to Master the Art of Sales

"Success is the continous journey toward the achievement of pre-determined worthwhile goals."

Based on that, I would say what leads to success, is enjoying the journey!

The other thing that leads to success is taking action. I have a great post on that subject here:

If at first you don't succeed, try again (i know, i know, you've heard it all before)

    Believe in yourself.

    success=perseverence

Define success. There are multiple interpretations of the same word.
