An appropriate amount of humor, well-written content, highly-developed ideas, an aesthetically pleasing layout, and frequent updates.
Of course, Kobra's Corner probably breaks every single rule at one point or another. I think it's a "We want in the blogs we read what we can't have in our own" kind of thing. -
Humor, but smart humor.
Eye-catching, but not too busy layout.
Blog can't load too slowly...
and you have to know what you're talking about, not rant rant rant... -
I write good content, have a lot of information, and work hard, an inviting and easy to use design. www.davincisbloglog.com

Having me write it helps enormously.

cater to the needs of your readers, get variety in content, dont restrict yourself in topics of writing... look at my variety

well, i dont think that there is any fixed criteria for this, there will definitely be individual differences ... for me the only thing that matters is good content ... but good content is in itself is a very subjective thing ... what maybe good for me may not be good for another person ... it completely depends on the person who views a particular blog
-
yeah I think when someone is looking for something in particular like technical, medication, health etc then other blogs will not interests him and vice versa. What I want to know is what appeals to you when you are in someone's blog, different blog different interest and appeal eh..Anyway your views worth a lot. Thanks.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. For me I look for content first before anything else. It should be well-written, intelligent, and interesting. Personal blogs appeal more to me than technical specialized writing.

I read mostly feminist or political blogs...I want good satire, relevant analysis..no music playing in the background. Even if I don't agree with the author if the point is argued well I am satisfied.
-
I agree, I think humor is extremely important. After all, if it wasn't why would we continue to tune into repeat after repeat of our favorite sitcoms?
(or am I the only one that does that?:) -

Hey Jade. Thanks. I think you're probably the second person to read it. Sorry there's no prize for that. I REALLY need to read your Blog throughly. I'm a terrible gardener. My husband refers to be as "the Dr. Kevorkian of plants." It's not that I don't try. They just don't do well in my care.

Wow! That was super easy. Thanks for the add and I added you to my. You're the first friend on mine. Sorry, still no prize
-
Hey Jade: Sorry I got side-tracked. Friednship is always wonderful and thanks for all your help. I'll keep your blog in my sights. Take care and happy gardening.

"What makes a blog fun and interesting?"
I am big on helping others so if it inspires me to want to do something it is fun and interesting to me. -
Well good writing style and look of the blog definetly matters
A lot fo articles supporting what you are writing about will also be help
Avoid copy pasting because then your site will be merged with the other site which already have your content and yours will never show -
Blogs gets more interested when you get more clicks and traffic ,

Many things. 2 things I really like to see in a blog are
1. snarky sense of humor
2. the blogger interacting with readers and responding to all comments -
Intelligent humor...
Original content, not just something that's been "found" around the 'Net somewhere. -
-
references to Teen Wolf, Megaforce, Star Crash, or random youtube videos of ALF. Apart from that it's tough to stick out.
-
-
Uniqueness. I'm particularly fond of blogs where the author truly lets their personality shine through. If I wanted to read monotone text, I'd read the newspaper or some stuffed-shirt magazine. :-D
-
Firstly... I don't read (very) Bad English -blogs. I don't forgive non-native speakers for bad English, even though I am one. I think if you can't hack it, stick to your own language, even though potentially English brings you more readers, practically it won't. I know everyone makes mistakes, and I am one of them. What I mean is that if a reader can't figure out what a sentence is supposed to mean without reading it more than once it's not good enough.
Secondly, a degree of humour even if it wasn't a humour blog. By humour I guess I mean a personal, informal take to things.
Thirdly, articles that you can enjoy WITHOUT reading every damned post from the day the blog was created. (As in journal -type of blogs.) -
It is the fun of it. The processing of creating a post and having people come and read it!

smart, intelligent, cool..organised..:)

I think the fun has to be felt in the content as well. If you read something and you feel like the writer is having fun creating it, it will be more interesting.

Way to go jade, this link is still getting responses...here's another.
There's so many blogs/bloggers out there, I think "fun and interesting" lies within the reader him/herself. I blog about what makes me laugh, cry or stand up and take notice, someone else might think it's stupid. I'm the only one that has to be satisfied with my blog in the end. I can only hope others will find a laugh or two among it's 'pages.' -
Blogs with the intention of marketing or making money... You may not get an interesting or interactive ones so easily....
The best way is go thru some personal blogs... and you may find them speaking to themselves and that makes more interesting. -
True. I don't want to even try and make money off Blogging, it suppose to be fun. I got Bloggers-Block today so I'm trying something different on mine.

one of two things: 1) candid pictures of john mccain taking a bubble bath, or 2) (haven't figured out number two yet).

I like blogs that go into detail to teach you things. I love pictures. Humor too.

Like a lot of folks here, I like to read something in which I can feel the writer's interest or passion. There are plenty of sites with people blogging about things they think other people want to hear or see, but which are flat and dull because the author doesn't give a hang about the subject. I'd rather read your recipe for your aunt's lemon pie, if you really enjoy writing about it, than yet another "secret" or tip for making people come to your site and spend money or click on something to make you a couple of pennies.
I don't have any trouble with people who want to make money, but if you don't give a hang about your topic then get one you can care about and monetize that. -
Clear layout, not too busy, good opening sentences that catch my interest, general interest not self-absorbed, stunning pictures, a good funny story. Try www.carminesuperiore.blogspot.com
