What are the top three things that make you leave a blog before you've gotten to read the first post? For me, it's long loading time, little or no content above the fold, and too many distracting widgets in the sidebar(s).

After a couple days, I'll tally up how many people said what, so that you will know what people hate overall. Then you can go and fix a problem that might be on your blog.

My 5-day-old blog:

If they gave you a choice of whether to turn music on/off, would you listen to it?

I probably would turn it off and perhaps read their blog, but usually I can't find a way to stop it so I don't even bother...

You and I are in total agreement on this one!

Agree. Those plus no read-worthy content.

my post probably does not involve them. uninteresting, i find it hard to believe so i say they can't read.

oh it's me that can't read. then it would be too many freaking distractions. lol

Certainly the number one thing is length of time to load, i'm always prepared to give more than a few seconds but when we are talking about 30 and even 60 seconds i'm gone, that's way too long.
Second big turn off is way too many ads on a page, you can have ads but they should be well laid out and not blast you as you enter the site.
Thirdly people begging for money, I think everyone deserves to earn something with their work but don't openly beg, it's a big turn off.

What the queen said. Also pop ups/unders annoy the hell out of me so I usually leave those sites quickly. Annoying colors like bright yellow background or anything that resembles something that will give me an epileptic seizure.

How long is too long? More than 500 words? My posts vary between 250-400 words.

Negativity. I enjoy blogs that have a positive, energetic attitude that leaves me feeling ready to deal with life. Something that sucks the positive thoughts right out of my head is not going to be in front of me for more than ten seconds. Load time is important but trying to murder my disposition is a worse offense.

Is my load time quick enough? rollydollar.wordpress.com

i don't really care about bad english, as long as you understand the main point. bad thing was slow loading, background music or embedded, popup, color contrasting and poor navigation
