With or without the request of link exchange, what would prompt you to link a blog?
What interests you to taking the time to link a blog to yours?

It's all about content. If I truly love the site and want to share it with my current readers, why not?

Ironically, the last time I voluntarily linked to another blog, that person generously linked back to me. I love when that happens.
    1. piebuko
      Yes, me too.
But I usually link blogs that I love. Actually because I want be able to click on them as easily. And of course, I want people to visit them as well. It's a worthwhile read. Sometimes, I give in though to link exchange whether or not I like the blog. Fortunately, I eventually end up liking their blogs though.

I don't consciously ask for a link. But when a blog is really good, I seem to automatically remember it and go back on a regular basis. Right now I only have six favorite blogs which I pamper with attention.

entertaining content. useful posts. cool design. if they linked to me. if they bribe me.
  3. Sewdelish
Must have great content. Either inspirational or informative!
    1. Hangingonahyphen
      Yes. Content is the key...

I have just link exchange system with other bloggers and no commercial advancement at all. My blog is not commercial one.

Because they are interesting and worth the backlinks.
  6. ranjith143
    interesting content.
  7. blackzedd
Only highly relevant blogs with in my niche.
    1. legbamel
That's one of my criteria, too. I only link to relevant blogs on my own. I'm happy to join neighborhoods and link to freinds in various profiles, but on the blog itself I stick to the subject almost exclusively. I figure that it's one more service to offer - why bookmark when you can come to my blog and the link is already there, next to new content from me?
  8. gelene
i link my friends' blogs and those that i stumble upon which i find interesting:)
  9. friendsofmissi
In my blogroll there are only blogs which I really read. Blogs which express an opinion. I like thought-provoking blogs as well as personal ones. Kind of like mine

    c'mon, be honest!
    The PageRank
    1. blackzedd
Why PR? It does not affect your ranking if there's no link from the blog back to yours...I think...
  11. ThriftShopRomantic
Someone who has a unique take on my niche in some way, who I think my readers would enjoy.

Nell-- to address your "be honest: the PageRank" comment--

Most of the folks in my niche aren't into rank, and don't really do SEO.

If I excluded people who had blogs that didn't have much rank, I'd be excluding a lot of wonderful ideas I could be bringing to my readers.

I link to people who support my blogs and have done so over a number of months ones I see their faces often

Good design, good content and cool pictures
  14. mawbooks
I don't have a blogroll with other bloggers on my blog, just to many of them. But when I read a great book review, and I happen to read the same book, I mention them in my article. They love it!
  15. mikeny07
Im pretty fussy on what I link to. I have very few links on my blogs. I think anyone is lucky if they get on one of mine.
    1. friendsofmissi
Can I be in your blogroll?
  16. artmixter
It's the art plus the thought process that does it for me. An artist who has a grasp on what s/he is doing, and can express it clearly and with passion. I do have some non artists bookmarked, but mostly, it's art... makes sense, as art is my life!
  17. VampireFaust
If it's a blog that I think my readers would be highly interested in.
  18. SilverSpikes
I link my friends blogs and my other blogs - however I am looking to create a list of awesome photographic blogs and hoping some link exchange will come of that too. Kinda a photographic blog ring with my blog www.silverspikes.blogspot.com

I mostly link to blogs and sites relevant to what I write about (which is writing, particularly fiction). I have links to other writers, other pages with cool writing stuff, agents' blogs, etc. I am open to linking to sites with different topics, but they must be sites that I, personally, find worthwhile. I won't link to a site strictly as a link exchange if it's not relevant. I'm more interested in quality (within my niche) than quantity.

The following makes me generously give a linkback:

    1) The content shows that the author actually made a sincere effort in writing it
    2) The content is informative
    3) The content has creativity and personal touch
    4) The blogger is friendly and cool
    5) And of course, if the blogger responded to my "Get A Free PR4 Backlink" from my blog (wakish.info/?p=58)
  21. anodynedesign
I link to other blogs because I love them and think that my readers might enjoy them do. I generally don't do link exchanges, as that seems insincere. If I really want to link to your blog, you don't have to link back to me to get that link.
  22. ChicaX
I know what makes me NOT link to a blog, is a blogger who I don't even know asking me to swap links.. um no.
    1. troilee
I agree, with the exception of someone in my niche. I have no problem with someone whose blog is also about writing (fiction, non-fiction, freelancing, books, whatever) dropping me a line and asking to swap links. If their site is good and they're on topic, I don't mind if I don't know them. Eventually, I usually end up getting to know them.

I don't really agree with that, I would have to check the blog out and see if it was relevant and something my blog readers would enjoy. Networking is part of blogging...the most fun is sometimes getting "lost" from blog to blog and link to link..That is how I have found some of my links.
  23. whojaybe
I think it all depends on the situation. But for the most part, I think I would link if it's something similar in topic to mine. Or if they're a really good friend, or they slip me a 20... lol
  24. sherxr
    Food!!! oops.
  25. distressingdelilah
It has to be something interesting..and a blog with great design!
  26. cooltool
    only links exchange
  27. jamesparmis
    can we exchange links?
  28. jaxons
I will link a blog if I know the blogger or if i found the blog content to be interesting and want to be able to return to the blog every now and then, or if others had linked me first.
  29. acousticguitarist
It's got to be at least half as good as mine.

    It must be unique.

They must be an expert or be coming from an angle that I consider is valid.

  30. HomeHaven
i link a lot. on my sidebar and within posts. i link to sites i think my readers would enjoy and/or benefit from. that's it. i love my readers!
  31. AainaA
content content content - if i'm smitten by a blog, and often read it, i put the link up on mine - this way saves me from bookmarking it and fail to find it in the bookmarking haystack ;-)
  32. kashifmahmood
    CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT

    Sorry duplicate post
  33. kashifmahmood
    !!!! CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT !!!!

Why would you link a news site ?
Why would you link a wikipedia page ?
Why would you link a any site

If you think that provides valuable info worth reading then you will link it and like it as well
  34. richrf
A kewl site, or a favor to a friend, to send them some traffic.
  35. mikodragonfly
I usually link to a blog for one of the following reasons:

    1. I find it interesting.

    2. It has relevant content to mine and I think that someone who reads my blog might be interested in what that person writes.

    3. I also always try to link back to sites that I discover to be linking to mine, as a courtesy - unless their purpose or content is something I find distatefull... or even simply dislike.
  36. roentarre
    Whoever can increase my traffic!
