At home we rented the classic "midnight cowboy" and I was reminded again of why it won an academy, just brilliant.
At the movies we went to see "Bucket List" with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.
I want to see "death at a funeral" again as soon as it comes out on dvd, it had me peeing my pants, hilarious. A classic British farce. www.imdb.com/title/tt0795368/ -
Rambo IV -- sick movie
great story though, good comeback for Stallone... don't go with your kids if you want to watch this. -
I've recently watched Stardust (it has De Niro in it, so it can't be a chick flick). And I'm going to see Cloverfield tonight.

Gone Baby Gone with Casey Affleck, pretty good movie gets you really thinking about right vs. wrong, morality, etc.
Kiterunner was a seriously blow you away movie.
Addicted to 'Rescue me', Dennis Leary's the shit. That shows crazy good. -
OK, I just got back from Cloverfield. I don't want to give too much away (other then the whole movie itself being somewhere in these internets), so I'll just say this. If you didn't like The Blair Witch Project, you won't like this. If you don't like Godzilla movies, you won't like this. After the movie it seemed like everyone wanted to give their opinion of it to everyone else. I heard only 2 types of comments. It was either "one of the worst movies I've ever seen" or "one of the best movies I've ever seen". That's it, no middle ground. What did I think. I'm in a group with the latter. Very good movie, nicely done. Maybe not original, but better then most.

Showed my class Dreyer's "Day of Wrath" (Denmark, 1943) this week. Not uplifting or exciting by today's standards, but the best film I know that deals with the persecution of witches. (Okay, I know this film has no place in your list. Sometimes I can't help myself.) Last weekend my wife made me watch Water (1985), which was kind of a funny blast back to the 1980s.

Alvin and The Chipmunks was adorable! The new Will Smith movie, "Legend" was quite suspenseful and I have fallen in love with "A Good Year" (2005) starring Russell Crowe ... I must confess that he usually turns me off, but he delivers a solid performance. I haven't seen "Gone Baby Gone" yet, but I intend to. I suppose you can tell I love watching movies. Cheers everyone.
"Honey, do we have any popcorn?" -
See "Juno," maybe this year's surprise hit. You can read about it in my post, "The little movie that could," on my blog, Culchavox.
Enjoy!

Two action movies:
'Die Hard or Live Free' and 'the Bourne Ultimatum'
really super dooper cool movies to me -
3:10 to Yuma - excellent! i forgot how much i love a good western. Made me want to watch High Noon again...and maybe Unforgiven.
What are some other good westerns? -

I completely agree. Plus the more you know about the Mayan civilization, the more interesting the film actually became. If Gibson could have just avoided getting too drunk while driving, this fine film would have received much more attention and praise. It also makes me want to return to the Yucatan as soon as possible.

I haven't been in a movie watching mode but I am looking forward to going to the store and buying some new movies that have come out. I've gotten out of going to the movies because I just fuss at how much it costs by the time you get though adding popcorn and a drink to the cost of a ticket. It's the same as buying the movie which I usually do anyway so now I just wait and buy the movie when it comes out.
I can't wait to buy and watch the Tyler Perry movie. What's it called? Why Did I Get Married? -
Theater:
"Definitely, Maybe" - my reaction is kind of like the title
"The Spiderwick Chronicles" - I'm a sucker for fantasy, Freddie Highmore plays twins
"Jumper" - liked the idea, but was hoping for more of mythology of the Jumpers and Paladins
"Persepolis" - cool black and white animation for serious autobiography about an Iranian girl - based on a graphic novel
DVD:
"Right at Your Door" - dirty bombs in L.A. - some aspects remind me of Katrina
"The Nines" - three parts and cast that do different characters, still a bit murky in my head
"Rocket Science" - offbeat coming of age story of a stuttering boy recruited by girl who's the debate team star
"Our Brand in Crisis" - documentary with political consultants in Bolivia during the 2002 presidential election-
Jus watch An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore.. maybe you will like that ^^
A nice, educating and inspiring video about the serious implications about global warming.. though some of part it is political in nature.. but overall its a good documentary to watch...
More info about it can be found here, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Inconvenient_Truth

Screenings last week:
"Charlie Bartlett" - Anton Yelchin (kidnapped kid in "Alpha Dog") is Charlie in the "Ferris Buehler" tradition . . . funny, but tone gets dark at times . . . also has Robert Downey, Jr. - I'm used to him as a rebel, but this time he plays a principal of a school.
"In Bruges" - Irish mob story with dark humor: two hit men (Colin Farrell and Branden Gleason) sent to Bruges, Belgium, by their boss (Ralph Fiennes).
"Vantage Point" - political terrorist thriller from six points of view - each time rewind back to the same time - I like the different points of view, but it gets contrived.
and paid for one:
"Be Kind Rewind" - Jerry (Jack Black) is magnetized by lightning and he accidentally erases all the videos at a video rental store. He and Mike (Mose Def) shoot their own versions of the films. The neighborhood loves the reinterpretations. The FBI shows up to confiscate the tapes. If you like Gondry's zany imagination, this is for you. It's not as funny as the preview makes it out to be. The cast also includes Danny Glover and Mia Farrow.
DVD:
"Heading South" - in French - middle-aged women at a Haitian resort are social with some young islanders. Competition for one of them and an affair becomes a tragedy. Only noticed "NR" - Not Rated after the fact.
“An American Haunting” – supposedly based on a true story of a man and his daughter tormented by ghosts. It got old fast.
"Pray" - in Japanese - horror - young couple kidnaps a little girl. When they call about the ransom, they are told the daughter died a year ago. The story got a bit confusing about the age of the dead girl. There are better ones in this genre.
"December Boys" - set in the Australian Outback in the 60s - four orphaned boys with birthdays in December go to live with a couple for the summer. The couple lives in one of several houses that face a beach and cove - pretty scenery with rocks, cliffs and blue-green water. One boy hears another couple discuss the possibility of adopting one of the boys. Daniel Radcliffe plays the oldest in this coming of age story. A couple of the boys have religious visions - Catholic orphanage.
