And how often do you get the chance to play it?
I play the flute and piano but I usually only end up playing at Christmas time. A friend is teaching me to play bongo type drums. They're sooo fun to play with a group of people. I just bought a couple of goat skin hand carved drums from Africa on Ebay for super cheap.

I play flute and piano as well, but I imagine I'm very, very rusty on both. I had a good eight years of lessons on each, but rarely get access to a piano these days.

    Drums.
I don't play so much anymore. Now I'm starting to take up guitar in my old age.
    1. calais50
I have always wanted to learn guitar. I'm left handed so that would probably make things a little harder I'm guessing.
    2. satijournal
Hey, I just started playing when I was 40. It's never too late!
    3. robertstevenson
      Robin,
My son is left handed and has no trouble. We just had to shell out a little extra for the lefty guitar.

Satijournal, I'm glad you responded. I kept putting off guitar until I had extra time. That hasn't happened yet, so I'm squeezing it in. Are you playing tabs?
    4. barryfromtexas
I played drums in a rock band in Jr High and high school - later on I figured out how hard i was to carry a drumset around, and I needed a band to play with so I picked up the guitar
    5. robertstevenson
I used to play kiss, doobie brothers, boston, and the who. How bout you, Barry? Our band was called Thundergust. I didn't come up with the name?

I used to play the saxaphone in the high school band. (no jokes about band camp) Plus I took piano lessons as a teen. Haven't played either in many years.

I've been playing piano and clarinet since I was 11. I haven't played clarinet for quite a WHILE...but piano evey chance I can get. I've gone into music stores and jammed on their piano before...lol

I'm horrible with music. In the fifth grade I put glue in my recorder so I could get out of playing. My wife spent the first twenty years of her life going to s special school for music. She played Cello before comming to the United States.

I can play the hammered dulcimer and jews harp. I'd love to learn how to play a saw.
    1. calais50
The dulcimer is probably my favorite instrument of all time.

      joni does it well

My first instrument was always my voice. I can play a bit of piano and drums.

My family is overly musical, dad teaching everything from instrumental music to voice and singing himself. He also repaired, restored and tuned instruments later in life. Mom has played piano since she was 4 and also taught for a time. My oldest brother is considered a musical "genius". He was transposing music for every instrument in the band and orchestra when he was in high school because his instructor couldn't. He has a CD or two out there somewhere with a couple bands he's had over the years. Two other brothers play brass and piano and my youngest brother plays electric guitar.

I sort of fell by the wayside. I sang quite a bit until I hit 30 - now I sing for the kids only -- and really loudly in the car

I play electric and acoustic guitar and I play everyday. I cant go a day without playing my fender. I love that thing.
    1. satijournal
I also have a Fender (Strat) but I play my acoustic most of the time.

Guitar of course. When I was in college, we hard to learn all sorts of instruments, but I think piano is the only one I can still play. My wife would kill me if I started playing the clarinet again.
  23. LGramlich
I'm a bit rusty on most of the following to varying degrees, but can still get by well enough on all of them; recorder, guitar, djembe, bodhran, piano, drums.
  24. mariamichelle
I played clarinet and saxaphone from age 9-18. Since then - NADA.
  25. wigwam2theorem
I used to play the piano, but I quit in high school (and regret it now.)

Classical guitar. It's been the biggest influence on my life. These days I play less than I'd like.
    1. acousticguitarist
Mark's got a great Blog and covers some very good classical/ nylon string players
  29. acousticguitarist
Although it's obvious I play Acoustic Guitar, I do light classical Indian music as well as other styles. I play semi acoustic Jazz guitar and do sound samples with all sorts of keyboards and things.

I also play the Balalaika, a 3 stringed version. I do a sort of middle Eastern type of music and it's a very infectious almost belly dance music, I haven't played it for a few years now, but I might take it out to play on Thursday night at a local venue. I used to play it with a a singer and a dumbek player.

I also play the mandolin and any fretted stringed insruments.
    1. witewood
Thanks very much Tony, for the plug.

Btw, I love Middle Eastern music, also Indian. Great for improvising and full of atmosphere. I don't play it, but it's great to listen to.

I play Tabla...but I'm still a novice and have a long way to go....
    1. acousticguitarist
Tabla is a beautiful instrument and it's a great instrument to play with. I have played with many many tabla players.

Alla Rakha was a great player, as was his so Zakir Hussein.

Of all the drums I've ever played with, there's nothing like playing with a good tabla player
    2. xtremer
yeah, and tabla can be played with most instruments....I've given the first exam...
  31. barryfromtexas
I play guitar - I am more like "Guitar George" - I may not know all the chords - but I know a lot of them - but I don't make it cry or sing
  32. br3adman

My eldest brother plays the organ and classical guitar, my sister the violin, and we all play the banduria. I play guitar but not much. I think I'm more interested in flute or sax. We haven't played for a long time, and I don't know if we will ever play again. But I am planning to buy my sister a violin and for me a flute, We will play "Stairway to Heaven" or "And I Love You So". Guitar, violin, and flute trio. what do you think?...Hoping it would revive our long lost life filled with music.
  34. lordiwanttobewhole
    I fumble playing the spoons
  35. Crazyharp81602
I once played the harp when I had "Gilligan" my Lyon & Healy Style 15 pedal harp as part of the rent to own program. I had to give him up and find out awhile later that the harp has been sold to another person. It was the most heartbreaking experience I ever faced. *sniff* I loved that harp so, so much. Now I'll have to get another pedal harp when I can afford to so I can play the harp again.

    Harmonica. Badly. Blues harp.

I played the Puerto Rico horn until my brother tried to beat me to death with it,(or maybe it was a Porter Wagoner horn-- no matter). Now we use it as a funnel. Our family was poor and couldn't afford a French horn much less a room to blow it up in.

  40. rodaniels
I play the guitar every day. I love my guitar. I have been a street musician and some clubs. My guitar is a Washburn acoustic. I also have a fender strat. I also pay a harmonica and am pretty good with hand drums.
  41. Stillthinking
    Like every good Asian child,

I played the violin and piano. Now, I do neither, but appreciate both. I have been amateur karaoke singing for about 10 years now.
