Well, Forro in the Dark has a new album out that I've been enjoying. As for the song that I keep going back to, that would be a tie between Bag of Hammers from Thao Nguyen and the Get Down Stay Down and From the Hips from Cursive. Oh, and Easter Island Head by Throat Culture.
    1. tcinvestor
Interesting. I will check these out. Being a fan of diverse genres and styles, I am always seeking different, unique and hidden gems. Thanks.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbhfXoRzMhg That was not at all what I was expecting from their song titles. Nice! Thanks for sharing it.

My pleasure. I enjoy spreading exposure about interesting musical talents that come across my path. Especially amidst the homogenized crap we are often subjected to.

Thanks for that one crpitt. Reminds me of some music I used to hear live at an Irish pub I used to hang out at.
    2. crpitt
For Irish music I would recommend

      The Dubliners

Thanks. I have heard of them and heard their music before but somehow forgot about them. Thanks for the refresh.

This year, I've been really into this band:

    The Walkmen

Here's one of their songs I've been digging: "The New Year" www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXj0kE61YvI
    1. crpitt
Really enjoyed that, I have listened to a few of their tracks but not that one. Adding them to my player so I can listen some more.
    2. trailofpen
Their recent album has some interesting and enjoyable tracks. It's a varied mishmash of stuff, can't even categorize it.
    3. crpitt
Cool I will look out for it
    4. tcinvestor
Unique with a kinda Roy Orbison/Bob Dylan flair. Thanks

I'm going through a Zeppelin phase at the moment, and "Wishing you were here" by Chicago is probably my favorite song for now.
    1. tcinvestor
Zeppelin seems to always provide something for everyone. My Ipod wouldn't be the same without it.

Most recently, "School's Out for Summer" by Alice Cooper. Which I'm listening to at the moment.

Like so much of my favorite sixties and seventies music, I'm not quite on the same page with the lyrics, lifestyles of the performers, and their philosophies: but I like the music.

Besides the energy in this track's music, I rather like the yearning for freedom that's implicit in the lyrics. Of course, blowing a school 'to pieces' is quite unacceptable to me.

And, for that matter, I rather enjoyed the access to libraries and archives that I got, back in my college days.
    1. tcinvestor
Going old school with the Alice Cooper. He is a scratch golfer too. Go figure.

Deer Tick - a good find, thank you very kindly for that tidbit.
J Tillman - superior find, nice work and thanks for bringing him to my Ipod.

I am circling back around to John Butler Trio this week.

Here is a nice live version solo of "Ocean" by John Butler Trio. A little different version of "Ocean" www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsnFvEQYJPU&feature=related an excellent display of acoustic guitar workmanship. Give it the full 9 min. of your time.
    4. trailofpen
Which Animal Collective albums or songs do you recommend? So far I think I've only liked their songs "For Reverend Green" and "Fireworks."
    5. crpitt
I am liking the new album Merriweather Post Pavilion, took a few listens to love it.

I especially like the track 'My Girls'.
    6. trailofpen
Wow... I love that song "My Girls." I had heard it somewhere before, but only caught the back end, and of course the gracious dj's did not mention the name or band. Thank you. Yay!
    7. crpitt
The whole album gets you in the end. I think it is twirl in your chair happy tunes kind of music
    8. trailofpen
Yay. A pleasant suprise. I left them for dead after Strawberry Jam. What a great pick me up. Just made my day brighten up.
    9. crpitt
      Excellent

    Anything Guns N' Roses.
Although the pre-Chinese Democracy stuff is a lot better IMHO.
    1. tcinvestor
I pulled up a little "Patience" a couple days ago. What a great talent. To bad he was a social idiot & whiner. People got sick of him complaining and walking off stage, coming on hours late and canceling shows. Lose a few pounds and the attitude and perhaps a late stage comeback tour could actually work.
  16. kas330
Yeah. I was just thinking of that song actually! Saw them 3 years ago I think it was, concert started at 7 and they got on stage around 12.30. I wouldn't have minded had I not been in the standing section. No other big complaints though, it was a good show.
    1. tcinvestor
Ha ha. Been there. Glad you stuck around. We left.
  17. kas330
Yeah, Sebastian Bach was pretty sweet opening. Suicide Girls were totally awkward since I was there with my dad. And this band The Eagles of Death Metal who opened were booed off stage, I found it funny
    1. tcinvestor
You might want to check out these shows Janes Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, or Tool. As always, Godsmack puts on a phenomenal show as well.
    2. liggybee
Wow, I've never seen a band get booed off the stage but I've seen people talk more and ignore the band when the band sucks.

BTW, I'm kinda into Creed right now...I downloaded their new album the other night and am currently listening to it. Sounds really good! I also like the new Three Days Grace album.
    3. tcinvestor
I used to live near Scott Stapp in Florida. Haven't heard the new music. I'll check it out.
    4. kas330
Haha yeah, it was pretty bad. They played original stuff, no one liked it, so they moved to doing covers, it got worse. Then Axl came out and apologized saying this was their first and last time opening for the tour.
    5. legbamel
I went to see Queensryche, back in the day, and whatever really, really craptacular band opened for them got booed off the stage after a engaging in a shouting match with a bunch of drunk frat boys. They did not take criticism gracefully.

That was a couple of years after I saw Skid Row open for Aerosmith. Now that was a show for 16-year-old bunch!
  18. kas330
I'll be sure to youtube sometime and check em out. I know I've heard all of them, but I can't put song to name at the moment
    1. tcinvestor
Wow. that is a name I haven't heard in years. Will have to pull that back up for my wife.
  19. tcinvestor
Here is a great duet. I have the cd by G-Love with the original duet of this song by G-Love and Jack Johnson before Jack made it to the big time. Still is a great tune. Enjoy. "Rodeo Clowns" - G-Love & Special Sauce with Jack Johnson www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjddmQVc924

311 is always a great addition to your list. These guys put on one of the best live shows of any group. Highly entertaining and energetic. If your head doesn't start bobbing & you don't start bouncing then your dead and I will give you a $100.

For some reason, this past month has been a lot of Everclear and Hole (lol remember them?). Santa Monica and Celebrity Skin in particular
    1. tcinvestor
A blast from the past. What happened to Everclear - they sold out & went too mainstream poppy then faded away.

Yeah that's a good track. More mellow. Love and caring makes me want to go out and rock the day. Have you heard their track Vanished? It's really a remix of a song by a band named Van She, but I like the way they arranged it. The album is pretty good, if you can get past the idea of listening to Atari sound effects music lol.
    3. crpitt
Will have to check it out.

    1. tcinvestor
Nice. I think we will be seeing and hearing a lot more of her in the very near future. Her song - My Cowboy - is a great crossover blend of genre's - very impressive. Watch out for this one.
