Good to see you back Daniel

      And turned on about christianity
    2. Anok
      Apparently
  3. aningeniousname
    Nuns, I like the nuns.
I'd like to be tied to a cross and whipped by midget nuns with cats tied to ropes by their tails so that when they connected with me they would be really angry.
    1. daniel23
I knew nuns would be brought up.

Why is Castle Anthrax popping into my head...?

WOOT! I missed you. My answer is sweet muck all, Daniel. Jesus was cool. What came next sucked. His message was hijacked. Organizations were found and well you know the rest - corpocracy and hypocrisy.
    1. daniel23
you're saying you've never experimented with a little bit of christianity?
    2. timethief
Just a little - get back! Do we really want to go there? Raised in a evangelical fundamentalist Christian household by pastors and missionaries and graduated from Bible College. -- Whew! I barely escaped with my sanity.
    3. daniel23
fair enuf. anin must just be a pervo
    4. timethief
The pink donkeh is somewhat distorted 'tis true .

Edit: Okay. You twisted my arm. Nothing turns me on about Christianity. The one thing I like about Christianity is ....... ummmm .......? I know - it's that I'm so over it.
    5. timethief
      @daniel23
lol ... I'm a limited individual. It seems that I'm capable only of having personal relationships only with living people whom I can see, hear, feel, touch, taste or smell and talk to. I didn't fit into the evangelical milieu, who insisted that I must have a "personal relationship" with a dead man. I was unable and disinclined to fake speaking tongues, rolling on the floor manifesting holy laughter or holy tears, spouting of prophetic utterances, and the rest of that hullabaloo like being "slain in the spirit" or laying on the floor to "soak in the Spirit" etc. I learned how to meditate and threw the Christian rituals, dogma and doctrine into the trashcan years ago.
    6. daniel23
Im sure anin knows all about having "personal relations" with a dead man. I'm going to go bleach my brain now...
  6. TheBigRuski
That you can have a relationship with Jesus Christ...

...and that it is not about religion.
    1. voodooKobra
Without being accused of homosexuality and necrophilia, too.
  7. FreshWind
Peace, freedom, having a relationship with Jesus.
Forgiveness of sins, life eternal in heaven.
The best part, it´s available for free. No strings attached.
Jesus will take you as you are.
    1. dsriharsha
      Forgiveness of sins?
By the same GOD who killed all the innocent first born of egypt?
And who sent a flood to kill all liing things(except a few who won the lottery) ?
    2. dsriharsha
      @TheBigRuski
The point I raised wasn't about God allowing Evil.. it is about God being evil..
  8. myriadlife
Is it supposed to be a turn on? Missed that one. Thought it was to make everyone feel guilty about not believing, or not behaving.
    1. timethief
      @myriadlife
lol ... yup, that's what it's about. It's about offering everyone special status as a "saved soul". Those who are willing to view themselves as sinful, fear based, guilt driven, susceptible to magical thinking and superstition, and who need an imaginary personal relationship with an imaginary friend, as well as, the promise of an afterlife reward to keep them on the straight and narrow find it appealing. It didn't turn me on. It turned me off. I'm capable of being good for goodness sake.
    2. TheBigRuski
@myriadlife... People and religion may play a part in making you feel guilty, however, there is no condemnation in Christ!
    3. timethief
      @theBigRuski
Oh for goodness sake please give it up.
I can out preach you any day of the week.
Every member of my family on both sides can and do.
They are pastors, preachers, teachers and missionaries ... LMAO
  9. myriadlife
Timethief I had an imaginary friend called Bert - was enough for me no guilt attached!

Not sure am totally capable of being good though LOL
    1. timethief
      @myriadlife
Take note that I didn't use the word "totally" as a qualifier. lol
  10. acousticguitarist
    I separate Jesus from Christianity

I don't really like Christianity as a structured religion.
But what IS good about Christianity is the sense of community, which is a healthy thing, but when a community says it is more Spiritual more Godly, more Saved than another, then it isolates itself and shoes its lack of understanding of the Unity in Diversity of God.

There are many things done in the name of Christianity, which Christianity often turns a blind eye to. Like the rape of children of which I was a victim when I was 11 years old. Although there are pathways to supposed healing in the church, they are really just a way of keeping the issues within the church and closing it off to the greater community, who really should be aware of such things. Also historically there are many things Christianity should be ashamed of, and also the underlying anti Semitic view .

The real thing Christianity has to offer is the principles spoken of by Jesus, and these unfortunately have been twisted into a form of control of the masses. The use of hell, satan and fear of sin are really strong control mechanisms. My view is that if someone comes to God, that they need to come to their God in Love and not by fear.

I like many aspects of the life of Jesus, his simplicity, his unbending from the path of Dharma and also his travels in India and the the far east.
    1. timethief
      @acouticguitarist
We are on the same page but then you already knew that.
    2. TheBigRuski
You can choose to look at Christianity as a religion or as meaning those who have accepted Christ as their savior...

...and for those that have, it's not about religion.
    3. acousticguitarist
that's a very interesting view Ruski, and a valid one

Personally, I think accepting a pathway to God is the beginning of the journey. When we start out, we often think that in the years to come that we will have a more refined view of what we had when we started. But there are many turns and twists on that journey. I think that in moving closer to what we think God might be, we find ourselves shedding some of those ideas, God hasn't changed, only our opinion. Humility is required when it comes to God, humility in recognising the limitations of understanding what God is. I'm confident God cannot be spoken of, only experienced.

Religion on the other hand, is a study of God
    4. timethief
      @TheBigRuski
I'm sensing that you don't accept the fact that I have rejected the church, the dogma, the doctrine, the rituals, etc. and I find no fault in the teachings attributed to Jesus. He was a devout Jew who was strongly influenced by Eastern religions. He comprehended the correlations between Judaism and eastern religions, therefore, he taught his disciples to meditate and he taught these principles:
      • dana = authentic generosity (charitable giving of the self and sharing of possessions, donation)

      • metta = selfless love and good will toward all beings (loving kindness)

      • karuna = compassion (respect, acceptance, forgiveness)

      • mudita = altruistic joy filled with peace and contentment (appreciative joy at the success and good fortune of others)

      • sila = abstaining from physical and vocal actions that cause harm to oneself and others

      • uppekka = equanimity (an inclusive state of open mind free of attachment, aversion, bigotry, craving, ignorance and intolerance)

FWIW acousticguitarist and I are fully cognizant of where those teachings were derived from. It is our position that they have been twisted by the Christian corpocracies and institutions and cults.
    5. acousticguitarist
      Timeie

also jnana - I and the Father are one, + the kingdom of heaven is within you

and most of all Surat Shabd Yoga
    6. timethief
I am aware of this also ♥ but those to whom we speak are not. They have no knowledge of where these concepts came from and because they are romancing and worshiping "the book", and because Eastern religions are demonized in their churches (fellowships) by their leaders, IMO they are not likely to discover the roots ie. the commonalities.

Neither male nor female, neither good nor bad, neither light nor darkness but containing all there is and situate everywhere: the universal stream of consciousness flowing through all is god. Hence, god is found in everyone and in everything; god just keeps on is-ing.

On cannot experience god unless or until one learns how to stop cogitating and start meditating. Then what they experience is that when all the things associated with "self" like greed, anger, hate, etc. dissolve is that there is no self; there is no distinct being that is separate from the universal stream of pure consciousness -- peace and love ie. god.

I choose to look at christian woman - and they turn me on - well some of them...

(I just signed, sealed and delivered that bad trip - didn't I)
    1. acousticguitarist
      that's actually very funny

in fact, the best place to pick up woman is at church, yoga class or typing class
    2. BennyGreenberg
And I'll be here all week - well not Friday!

      Super Market? (grocery store)
      Bowling Alley?

Just stay away from the nunnery (I am soooooooo getting it)
  12. ladylyf
what turns me on about christianity is that it is not a religion. if you have ever viewed it as a religion then you've missed it.
  13. myriadlife
Actually I have no guilt, I was talking more generally. Christ, Savior = religion, or what did I miss?
    1. timethief
Christian fundamentalists ie. both conservative and charismatic evangelicals, who are equally represented in my family, equate religion with the kind of ritual present in the Catholic church. It's their position that the have a "personal relationship" with Jesus and that Catholics have "religion". Hence you can see that they do not believe the dictionary definition of religion applies to them. They believe they have "faith established via a personal relationship in and with Christ" as opposed to religion.
    2. TheBigRuski
@myriadlife... sorry, your equation is incorrect. If you are interested in finding out why...you can go to:

      If they're socialist, sure.
    3. timethief
LMAO ... Jesus was a socialist and a pacifist. And once one understands that they can comprehend how "twisted" Christianity is today.
    4. acousticguitarist
no Jesus is a soul man... great song
  15. mikeny07
Everything. The story is genius because it is true. Just because something is old does not mean it is outdated.
    1. clioandme
Would it be any less genius if it weren't true? I know plenty of true stories that are nowhere near as compelling for people.
  16. jasonthebaldguy
I think the thing that I like most about Christianity is that it just continues to prove that we are not capable of "Fixing" things. We still need to let go of that feeling of "control" and allow God to make the difference.

The churches that the most alive are the ones full of liars, thieves, prostitutes, alcoholics, and drug addicts. Those are the people that Jesus specifically ministered to. Jesus himself stated that the healthy have no need of a physician, he came to minister to the hopeless.

I advise everyone... find a church full of losers and you will see that high minded logic and regurgitated platitudes quickly lose credence when faced with the reality of lives that are no less than miraculously changed. You may even find that for once in your life...you feel at home... with a bunch of losers!... I know I do!
    1. LynneaUrania
And the same is true with the ministries of other religions that do the same. This isn't unique to Christianity. I've seen it among Muslims and Hindus too, usually working with Christianity's failures.

What I find good in Christianity is its reveling in something audacious...that the Holy One above all really did take on flesh to dwell among humankind, and inspire wonder in a world that's cynical, to bring again that innocence of being little children again. It's a good dream...a dream that many want to see happen again... a blessed hope in a small way within reach of anyone at any moment.
    2. dsriharsha
I am afraid we cannot let God make the difference.. it is us who need to do the fixing.

For example, if your computer were infected with a virus.. would you clean it with a good anti virus or would you reformat your computer each time?
Because GOD prefers to re install Windows everytime his Computer gets sick.

Of course, it would be much simpler if everyone would just chuck Windows and opt for Ubuntu.. but we can only hope..
    3. jasonthebaldguy
      dsriharsha & LynneaUrania

I think you misunderstand. I am not speaking of moral reform! while I agree that moral reform is equally effective across all groups regardless of religion, It is not the solution. Jesus stands alone as the only opportunity that mankind has to experience a very real and meaningful relationship with the very being that created them and subjected himself to the very same rules that he expected them to live by. No other God can even claim a fraction of the history that Jehovah has. No other faith teaches atonement based on the fact that a God could choose to accept the penalty of death himself to protect his followers from the consequences of their choices. No other book documents historical and science facts that have been verified and cross verified to the point that only personal experience would be more proof.

As far as God wanting to reformat...not the case, of course the average "knocking on doors" christian may want you to believe that!

Most of them are simply regurgitating information and don't even believe what they are talking about anyways...

Real Christianity embraces your character and allows you the freedom from the bonds of ridiculous motivators like fear, anger, hatred, despair, loneliness.

Even the silly antics of other Christians trying to "earn" their way to heaven and drag you with them is just an opportunity for you to show them a life of peace and contentment that goes way beyond anything that they experience.

The truth is a real christian doesn't need to convert you... by the time you have been around them for any length of time you will want what they have so bad that you have to ask about it... and when you do, it is so simple... that only a perfect being could have dreamed it up!!

and that's what changes lives... not the songs, not the legalism, not the hypocrites, not the shouting and preaching.. just the truth. simple. honest. and true.
  17. czecho
Check out Deepak Chopra's latest book called "The third Jesus" talks about what religions missed...
  18. Ajah
Jesus' long hair. long hair is so, so hot on a man!
  19. ladylyf
@timethief, actually, it is the belief in Christ as the son of God, his humanity, death, resurrection and ascension that makes a christian. So that makes catholics, conservatives or whatever, christians. We 'christians' gave ourselves denominations, not God. Having a 'personal relationship' with Jesus implies fellowship not christianity. And living a so called 'good life' has nothing to do with christianity either. Just as living a 'bad life' doesnt make you less of a christian. It is the message of the cross that makes us one!
    1. acousticguitarist
there is always this focus on the Son of God.

But Jesus stated three things which need to be considered

      1. I am a Messenger

      2. I am the Son

      3. I and the Father are one

These are the three stages of Self Transformation

Christianity has focused on the Son. If the focus was on the third statement, the Christian experience would be very different for all
  20. sensico
I like the morals of the Christian religion. But, like I said in some other thread before, religions are branches of each other and basically have the same common morals so I guess morals in general is what turns me on about religion in general.
Though, dont get it twisted, I'm no saint, though if someone wants me to be then I will
  21. roguedeals
My favorite quote from many 'believers' is "What if you're wrong" HAHAHA.

Fail Cat l0lz. Saying that Christ is your savior just proves to me you have no capacity to rationalize anything and that you fail at the most simple forms of logic.

Christ, Santa Claus, Hokus Pokus, non-sense.

Get your head out of the reality which, to you, is similar to that of Middle Earth. For the LOVE... There is no devil, there is no God, use your head and stop crediting a non-existent imaginary super space God. I don't like it, no one with half a brain likes it. Shut up.

Religion is for people who cannot figure out anything for themselves, or separate fact from fiction... they cannot answer the meaning of life so they make up some stupid s**t that is more ridiculous that the SCI-FI movie I just watched.

Go drink some super-blood from a 14k gold chalice that was bought with your 'donation', go cause some more holy war, go waste more of your time... I'll be busy laughing at you all the way.
  22. Thundercatt99
"D" of course! Christian thought has a power and clarity to it that I have never seen elsewhere. I certainly haven't found such clarity and lucidity in contemporary Western philosophy. Questions have been the heart and soul of Judaism and Christianity for millennia. As for me, Christianity is more a call to rebellion than an insistence on narrow conformity, more a challenge than a set of certainties.
    1. roguedeals
Challenge yourself to what? Limitations? No thank you.
    2. TheBigRuski
@rouguedeals... you'd be surprised. It's quite the opposite from having limitations.

      "Opposite Way" by Leeland

      video post: alexanderwrites.blogspot.com/2008/10/its-ok-to-run-opposite-way.html
    3. roguedeals
Yeah buddy, read this. You won't but if you did, you'd agree. Because it's not something you can refute.

      nobeliefs.com/problemswithbeliefs.htm

And I'm sorry, but you can interpret those lyrics any way you'd like. There are lots of reasons why 'we don't fit in' or reasons why 'you'd want to run the opposite way'. So, you fail in trying to prove anything.

Now it's your turn to read the link I've posted. It's logical, it's broken down... I'd like to see you try to argue a way out of it... because I think it's pretty solid.
  23. jan4insight
    As Gandhi said,

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians."
    1. sensico
LOL, thats great and so true
    2. roguedeals
As I say, a cause to far gone from its roots for anything good to come of it. I just CANT grasp the purpose. We are modern... we know about ethics as theories... we are able to rationalize this and separate it from the space being. So WHY still do people deny that 'God'... 'Christ' is no longer needed to do good, or be good. This I cannot get, and never will.
    3. roentarre
      That is an amazing fact!
    4. Thundercatt99
I've seen this quote in a lot of places. On one level its convicting of course. But on the other hand that statement is true of every practitioner of every moral and ethical belief system in the known world. I mean, he's right and it upsets me sometimes too, but really...you'll have to reject Gandhi's followers right along with Christians (he probably wouldn't disagree!) and ...well, everybody's. We're all guilty as charged there. Its like a co-worker of mine who used to say, "I don't go to church because it's full of hypocrites." But is this a reason not to accept Jesus though?
  24. rayman71
God's merciful, compassionate, extraordinary, overwhelming, gracious love for me through his Son, Jesus Christ and his death on the cross in my place, a wretched sinner.
    1. TheBigRuski
I am so thankful that I chose to look into this "Jesus thing" rather than look away. By His grace I was attracted to what one particular person had in Christ, not repulsed as many were.
    2. roguedeals
And what were you attracted to exactly? I'm curious.
  25. libertycast1
It would fall under D for me. The love, forgiveness and compassion that it expresses and a life lived by such day in and day out. Jesus is great in a sense of submission and humbleness but not out of inferiority - to have another at your side when you need strength allows for great opportunities of unity and having another's strength to help you when you need it most. A great sense of love and togetherness in that kind of unity.
  26. FreshWind
    for Dsriharsha,

Under the old testament we were living under the law. Now because of Jesus we are under grace. Jesus paid the price for the penalty of sin, my sin and yours.
We have the word, and the word sets us free. The word became flesh, Jesus.

Once you accept Christ as your Lord and savior, you will receive the answers to all your questions. You will not receive them before, as it is hidden to you.
    1. dsriharsha
Firstly.. I dont buy into the Jesus paid the price stuff..

Even if I did, that doesn't address the point I raised.. you said under the old testament, we were living under the law.
What law was it that punished millions of innocents at the cot of a few sinners?

And why would I trust in the grace of such a GOD?
  27. ThomasCSlater
[What turns you on about Christianity?]

The message of love, forgiveness, giving, caring, for others. Treating others as you would like to be treated. Loving your neighbor and enemies. Taking care of the sick, poor, and hungry. Humbling yourself and accepting that you are a sinner, and that you need a savior, who is Jesus the Christ.

If an all-powerful, perfect, all-knowing being hates something, couldn't said being make that which he hates not exist? If so, he must not really hate things that much. Dislike, at the absolute most.
