A close second for me is the book, The Mental Floss History of the World...I love the Mental Floss magazine, so love this book as well. (By the way, the magazine makes me a formidable conversationalist. While other guys drone on about their "exciting" career selling insurance...I can get into little known facts about the biggest insurance scams in history, for example. Oh yeah.)

Hope you don't mind, I will share a bit. This year was a little rough for us. We had recently moved long distance due to the economy and job cutbacks. We got to our new location, husband and I both got jobs but they were only temp positions and nothing else has been available since. We went through all our savings and arrived at "0".
So, this year we had our tree but couldn't get any lights to go on it. Since it is silver, I put a small lamp hidden under it and shined it up through it. It was just enough to make the tree and ornaments sparkle.
We soon had no food and ended up having to go to a food bank, while there a lady asked my husband if he would hold something while she arranged things in her bag. She ended up being the little girl who lived across the street from him while growing up!
My daughter from the Marines was able to come home for two whole weeks. While we were sleeping on Christmas Eve. She placed a bunch of gifts under the tree and "played Santa" for us this year. When we awoke, she handed out the gifts for everyone in the family. This is the first year we were not able to get our children anything.
They all hugged and kissed us and said, "You have given us everything all our lives." and Santa girl said "It was fun to be the giver this year."
So, although this was unlike any other Christmas we have ever had, each strange situation seemed to bring it's own blessing and in the end I think I will remember it as one of my favorites.-
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing. Reminds us what the season is about...about people (family), love and blessings that you captured exquisitely.
I wish you many blessings in the days to come in 2009. And honestly...as you are sorting things out on the next chapter of your story...my prayers are with you.
