I recently won a prize at Winning The Web's craziest blog contest. It's described as "$2,000 in email marketing services from Software Projects ($2,000 value)." I'm supposed to be contacted in a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how best I can use this prize to increase traffic to my blog. Any thoughts?

Well it depends are they going allow you to create a marketing email that they can then blast to a list of people who are interested in your niche? If so, I'd say use it. If they're going to send your email to just a bunch of random people I'd say maybe use it? It all depends if its a directed email marketing blast I think you'll get some actual readers out of it and that'd be great. If they're going to be skating the edge of spam I'd say sell it if you're allowed to and use the money for advertising/marketing for your blog run a contest or something.
Congratulations by the way it was a good win and could turn out very helpful. -

Spam is not legal where I live. If they catch you spamming, you can get fined heavily.

I think you should pick a group of bloggers - get some HTML write ups - and PRETTIFY a bunch of news about your blog and those of blogs that you enjoy and want to promote.
Put out ads about your blog.
THen prior to it's distribution - get yourself MONETIZED - and spruce up the place.
Here's the Product:

Could be good for you.
Take advantage of it --- sell space on your blog during that time (or get link back space with other blogs... )
And PROMOTE THE LIVING YOU KNOW WHAT outta yourself!
Good Luck - Wish I had 2000 worth of emailings... Sigh --- the possible conversions then.. wow.

Irrespective of the staleness of the thread, having done email marketing enough to realise that even marketing to warm leads on the internet generates spotty results, if I had $2000 in internet marketing, I'd either chuck it in the same bin as the monkey's paw someone gave me, or I'd trade it for a handful of magic beans.
