I have my best friend from my hometown coming to visit, who I've known since I was five. Every year we visit over the Fourth of July. It should be a fun weekend!

@ Calais
Ohio. It's an improvement IMO. I've lived here 4 years and never really adjusted. I lived in Roanoke, VA before and loved it! -
took an hour walk on the beautiful trail in glen helen, ohio
added some more knitting to a pole in Yellow Springs
working on my new skull painting (really excited about this new series)
working on a grant
drinking a cup of tea and enjoying a little natter on BC-
Proper tea,as in good strong cup of tea with milk and sugar YUM!
There is a nice pic on the front of this 1000-acre nature preserve website. The miami and shawnee used its trails and watered there when passing through, and there are indian mounds.

We have two huge state parks next to our village, glen helen being on the edge of it. A bike trail runs along the side of it. I LOVE glen helen, it is gorgeous and I bet you would too. Sometimes when it is very quiet and there is just the deer, the forest, the bird and you it feels almost spiritual (like hiking for miles on the moors or the Lake District).
I was just joking with someone today that it took me 15 years to even acknowledge iced tea existed (of course the quality and choices has improved since 1978 lol). The first time I tried it I thought I was going to gag it was so gross.
Glad you like the skull paintings. I can't wait for them to be finished and dry enough for me to cover with resin.

@ calais I am in Columbus and it is a fairly large city. I am originally from Vermont so I am NOT a city girl!

Going camping starting tomorrow. Love it in the mountains, great place to get away from my laptop addiction.

What's going on in my life is work, work and more work. Tourists abound in the summer months therefore our wholesale customers (shop keepers in large cities) are ordering a lot of product (hand-painted high fired stoneware pottery) and we are working hard to keep up with the demand.
Gardening and flowers are coming on strong and need time and attention. I love giving it to them. I walk either in the forest or on the beach every morning before I start work and I've been enjoying watching the birds and wildlife raise their young. Whenever I get a chance to get away I either walk or head for the ocean.
Summertime and the living is busy but I love it anyway -
Today;
I learned a couple of hours ago that I sold another painting (YES!)
A 4x8' panel I volunteered to paint for a local park project was recently installed.
I checked out the site of an art show I have coming up in February.
Lately;
Our bird feeders (& shed) are full of various baby birds--a delightful time of year with lots of laughter (woodpecker chicks are so hopelessly pathetic when they're first learning to peck!)
A huge, mystery flower is blooming near my front door. Although I planted seeds when we moved here (none of which came up,) this one looks like a very pretty weed.
I'm off work until Monday morning & am looking forward to some quality painting & relaxing time (along with my husband, who's off for the Summer,) briefly punctuated by mundane (& shared) chores. -

I'm loving my life right now.. For the first time in a long time -- things are finally starting to go my way. After I lost my father in 2006, I felt like my heart had left my body and went to heaven with him. It took me such a long time to bounce back. I know he would want me to move on with my life and be happy. It's just so nice to finally feel like me again! : D

Okay. Yesterday morning I went out to the back of our property to fill the bird feeder with seed and change the water in their tiny swimming pool. Walking back toward the house I noticed some tall tufts of grass growing up above the grass line. As I approached I saw what looked to be a rather large hole. Perhaps that groundhog (I call them land rovers) had returned. Cautiously, I dipped the tip of my athletic shoe in a downward motion. I didn't touch bottom and quickly pulled my leg back. On solid ground, I pulled the long grass back in order to gaze into a much deeper opening than I had expected to find.
I explored it with a yellowish yardstick. The markings were proof that it was a full three feet. I measured the depth and it looked to be eighteen inches deep. I showed it to my husband, who was getting ready to drive off to work. Upon seeing the muddy streaks on the wood, he turned off the engine and got out of his vehicle. Reaching for the tool, he began walking to our backyard and this time, when he measured the opening's depth, the yardstick did not reach bottom. And as we exchanged glances, we both took big steps away from the opening. It was the size of a large serving platter.
With all of the rain we have been having lately, and the way it gathers into a pool near the neighbor's fence, it was apparent to us that we had a situation. "Houston ... we have a problem," was running through my mind. Also, "Cha ching, cha ching."
We are facing a dilemma and have a possible solution. Stay tuned ... -
my life?
i "sprained" my right ankle (the good one) on the 4th.
the next day i found out it was actually broken. badly.
the 16th i had surgery to put the leg back together. 2 plates, uncountable number of screws.
the 19th i left for a work-trip to the Navajo rez in northwestern New Mexico.
got back late the 29th.
got a cast on the leg - finally - yesterday. it's camo- patterned.
otherwise? still trying to convince someone in this job market to hire me. -
I liked the bullet list ones:
*Last day of teaching summer school for the week is tomorrow (THU)
*I shaved my head bald yesterday and "bic'd" it for the first time it feels so cool.
*I decided I don't like drinking beer much this weekend. I'd rather have a root beer.
I teach middle school the 2nd half of the summer and I am scared.
*I have a sweet new theme on my blog
*I don't like the people who call themselves Google and I have good logical reasons.
*I'll stop there

We are very excited about this! -
Right now I am house/cat sitting in Beirut. Beirut is very safe compared to what the media portrays. The whole Middle East is safe from my experience. I have been traveling for the last 7 months and will continue traveling at the end of August after cat-sitting.

I am taking a mini vacation next week. 3 days in the mtns with my little sis who happens to be my best friend.

Sorry if this is a duplicate--my response seems to have disappeared.
We're wrapping up a ten-day vacation and making plans for the 4th of July before we head home on Saturday. This week I've had the wonderful oppotunities to connect with a friend I'd never actually met in person and spend some quality time with an old one whom I hadn't seen since 1990. -

Can't even imagine it. My dad just lost his job at 62 and I'm dying over that. The unemployed thing is widespread right now. Hang in there and ask yourself (or the universe if you are esoteric like me) what you can learn from it all. I would imagine you'll be a sage after this if you don't go insane first.

Big excitement and a little fear
I am busy starting my own small safari company. Been building a website day and night, learning lots of things, not sleeping much, looking after my two small boys while my wife is in another town doing training, getting accustomed to living in town after 4.5 years in the desert...and stuff like that.... -
Hmm what's going on in my life.. Let me see today is my birthday, my car is being a retarded piece of junk, it's 102 degrees outside, and I'm freezing in my house, feels good. How are things in your life?

What an interesting idea for a thread!
I've been away from home since June 12, and won't be returning before the middle of the week coming, at earliest. The trip is a combination of work and visiting family. I got a lot accomplished, but I am really looking forward to being home again and back to my familiar routines. I miss my husband, my cat -- my own bed... (I'm getting fidgety!) -
I am working with my friend building up our bookkeeping business. This past week we got three more clients. Very cool. If you need a bookkeeper www.debsbookkeeping.net. Getting my soon to be 10 year old ready for school. She is a fashionista, has to have all the hip clothes to start the new year. Letting go of a real bad divorce. Keeping my cats from having hairballs, keeping my dogs from eating the cats. Making sure my website is up to date on legal shit that hits the news and spreading the word about how to stop violence against women. Taking one simple day at a time, but it's all good.
