Today in Germany the biggest news is that Norway won in football with German team.
p.s. amazing that it actually bothers anyone soooo much....
  2. MadMadMargo
I would have to say, it's the first 100 days of our new President. The entire country is watching and we're hopeful that Obama will offer real solutions to our country's economic crisis.
    1. MrsBlog
oh, yes - also in EUR all are waiting for his moves!-he has a lot to do!!
  3. MrsBlog
Also, there are pretty much focus on the Pope and church in these days - after the last scandal where the Pope rehabilitated the Holocaust-lier bishop. Amazing story and the press is boiling
  4. MrsBlog
I am just terrified hearing about - again - a plane crash in NY.
  5. MrsBlog
Opel is going bankrupt. Whole Germany is mourning and all are discussing the solutions to save the company.

Our economy sucks, people are losing their homes--it's pretty grim. The market just reached an all new low, also. And I have a feeling it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
    1. MrsBlog
      I cannot say anything else but - there must be a c h a n g e to come soon!

The Australian bush fire season will be over in a few weeks, but the news is bleak: are families STILL at risk from really dangerous fires today? will any more survivors from Black Saturday (3 weeks ago) be found? will insurance cover survivors' homes and businesses? did anyone deliberately light the fires? could the various Emergency Services have been used more effectively? what will happen to the spouses and children of the 209 people who died in the fires? should families go back into areas that are bush-fire prone?

Two other questions that people may not have considered: how was the economy harmed by the fires and can it recover? and should the HUGE carbon emissions from the fires be counted in Australia's annual allowance?
    1. MrsBlog
oh gosh, what a news, what an issue..

Corporate thieves same as everywhere else I'm afraid, here in England we have the chairman of the Royal bank of Scotland that had to be bailed out by us, the HONEST taxpayer, and is now owned by us will not relinquish his 695 thousand pound a year pension even though on his watch they had the biggest loss in British corp history of 24 billion pounds.
    1. MrsBlog
exactly - the repairing of the economy should begin with cutting the salary of managers and directors - its truly amazing that they did not notice it themselves... same phenomenon goes for the whole Europe I believe
    2. aningeniousname
I'm just wondering when us the common peasants are going to start taking back control of our lives from this predatory set of gangsters that have usurped control of our lives and treat us as slaves and sheep to be fleeced.
  9. Theresa111
Actually very cold! 11º tonight and 5 to 9 inches of snow fell last night into the early morning today. Brrr!
    1. MrsBlog
oh really? I ve heard of it from my friend in NY - they do not leave home at all. and we are slowly going into springtime in Germany...

    * Canada falls into deep recession, no sign of recovery
    * Weak global economy causing PC industry to 'fall apart'
    * Mountie kills knife-wielding man in B.C. trailer park
    * Bell acquires The Source's 750 electronic stores
    * Bidder refuses to pay for relics at Christie's auction
    * Sean Penn wants California to adopt Harvey Milk day
    * Pooch catcher: DNA testing to identify dogs by stool sample
    1. MrsBlog
PC industry falling apart? the bad news are too bad to be true!

I always had a feeling that Sean Penn is a bit crazy - looks like now he completely missed the feeling of reality..

Two NFL football players are lost in the Gulf of Mexico.
Maybe not most important but all over the news
  12. FameofShame
I don't watch the news because I don't care. I don't see why they have to tell me everybody else's business.
  13. busylizzy
Here it's snow we got last night.
  14. ScreamBucket
Here in Canada we are all watching the headlines south of the border. Canada has - and will - escape the worst of the economic meltdown, but there is an uneasiness just the same.

Oh ya - I'm in northern Ontario where it is really really cold.

    BTW - fantastic thread
    1. MrsBlog
      thanks -

Today in the news, It's been debating on crashed Turkish Airlines Plane in Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport last week. Experts said in remarks cited by Dutch state television NOS that the plane had fallen almost directly from the sky, which suggests the plane's motors might have stalled.

And it's a known fact that Plane's motors can be stalled because of an inducting turbalance by another airplane. Schiphol Airport AirControl engineers have allowed to land another plane at high tonnage just before the accident!!
    1. MrsBlog
missed this update - or it has never been mentioned in German tv?.. do not know. I am horified by the number of plane crashes - and the offers
  16. MrsBlog
the president of one of German's states has recently recovered from a ski- accident in Austria, where he was guilty in crashing into a Slovak woman coming from the opposite direction. The woman was killed at the place of accident and the now recovered president has been punished with 33000 euro by Austrian court.
    He continues his political career.

Germany is in shock after a 17-year old boy took one of 50 GUNS from his FATHER'S COLLECTION, went out and shoot 16 people.
It's third time it happens in Germany, soon we'll have BETTER STATISTICS than US.

And can you see this cute boy, just some years ago? It was NOTHING about him that would make you imagine he will do such a thing in the future!

This is Obama's music video about change.

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjXyqcx-mYY
    1. MrsBlog
interesting, what are the reactions in US for seeing it?
  20. Shuttercraft
Everyone I showed it to broke out into tears. Even the people who disliek Obama.
    1. MrsBlog
what about yourself? did you cry as well?
    2. Shuttercraft
I do not like Obama vary much. I still think he will make a generally good president.
  21. askcherlock
In America there are cheers as Bernard Madoff is finally off to jail. He is a despicable sociopath who hurt countless people in a shamful scheme.
    1. MrsBlog
yes, I saw his way to the court showing again and again in CNN - and his expensive clothes as well. Heard the commentator saying that there is practically NO CHANCE for the cheated people to get any money back .. awful story
  22. Maple99
A couple days ago, all of Montreal stood still as MOntreal Canadiens GM fired head coach Guy Carbonneau. I'm a huge hockey fan, but this was NUTS!

I got two calls from radio stations asking for my comments, and news crews were all over downtown looking for streeters!
  23. qelqoth
The latest breaking news over here is the same garbage that has been polluting the media for weeks. It's all about how Jade Goody is seconds away from death and that as a nation, we must all pay attention to her rather than more important matters, such as our crippled economy.
    1. Epicharis
If you read the tabloids that's the biggest story...otherwise it isn't. I'm getting by without hearing much about her at all.
    2. qelqoth
Aye but when you go into work, all the brainless automatons are like, "OMG SHE'S ALMOST DEAD OMG OMG WOW OMG" and I'm like, "PLZ...just STFU."
    3. MrsBlog
maybe stupid question, but - who is Jade Goody?
    4. qelqoth
      No-one of any real importance.
  24. Epicharis
Biggest story in the UK at the mo seems to be the soldiers and policeman shot dead by the Continuity IRA.
  25. Sam1982
Here in NZ theres plenty of coverage on the shootings in Germany and in the U.S
    1. MrsBlog
isn't it just incredible that those 2 happened almost simultanously? I have just moved to exaclty this area in Germany where it happened, it's really hard to believe, it's the FIFTH time in the recent 10 years, ALL cases in SOUTHERN Germany english.sina.com/world/2009/0311/225007.html
    2. harveyavatar
      Manchurian candidate?

What are the gun laws like in Germany? Are they speaking of tightening them now?
    3. MrsBlog
yes, for sure they are talking a lot of possible solutions how to eliminate the danger BEFORE next shootings of that kind appear. It will probably not happen from one day to another. As I can see, the German weapon law is one of the most strict in Europe, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Weapons_Law but clearly - it's not about the law. Someone who has 50 guns at home and the teenage depressed son should think at least twice what he is actually doing!

The region here is very peaceful, kind people, nice nature, there is not any NEED of having guns, it's H O B B Y only.
If there were no weapon near the boy, he could only dream about shooting. ...
    4. harveyavatar
      MsBlog,

Thanks for that, what I thought.

Ever hear of the Hegelian dialectic?

      www.rense.com/1.imagesH/prbsolution_dees.jpg

I'm not a fan of guns either, the only reason the US didn't become a socialist repubic is that it was calculated 5per cent of the US population would have risen to arms to thwart a socialist revolution, whereas only 1 per cent was needed.

      Globalists rolling out their plans.

Of course, don't take my word for it.;)
    5. harveyavatar
Like in Tasmania, hand over yo fire-arms in New Zealand! Now! So we can have world peace!
    6. MrsBlog
@harveyavatar so yes: here you go news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7938402.stm they are considering tightening up the laws, but it seems like there is not too much left to be tighten up at this area.
As you point it, it is rather the matter of what people have in minds/brains/fantasies and WHY.
And ... it is ever possible to tighten those things up?
  26. trimandtrendy
President stoned with stones by secondary school students when giving a talk!!! Funny enough, the nation was happy bout it!
    1. MrsBlog
no, cannot be truth - where are you from? (guess it cannot be pres. Obama, or...)
    1. MrsBlog
increadible story - is he not too popular?
  27. fruitcake
Every time I here the news, they seem to have to update us on the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna soap opera.
  28. butters8686
It will be the Bernie Madoff scam for some time here in the US. The economy will regain the #1 slot after that...
  29. harveyavatar
when is a scam not a scam? lol
    1. MrsBlog
      thanks, much appreciated!
  30. stilperisi

Of course in the recent days the big news was Natasha Richardson's accident. Personally - I am quite scared as so far could not believe that the simple fal can cause the result like that.
    1. Epicharis
My guess is that she banged her head on some very firm ground. A normal fall on a beginner slope wouldn't normally cause that kind of injury.

      It's very sad.
    2. MrsBlog
you may say - the media coverage is enormous. But for me personally it's not a simple curiosity that makes me follow the details of this tragic accident - as I admit I have been following them close. (Even made a tribute post in my own blog www.wwomenglobally.com/natasha-richardson-a-tribute/.
But it simply takes time for me to 'diggest' the fact that you can actually loose your life from one moment to another even in the peaceful, comfortable circumstances.
That's scary - especially once you have children...

In our city (US) an off duty, drunk, police officer carrying a weapon shot a Native American man in the BACK of the head in pursuit because the officer thought the man (also drunk) had stolen his pickup. The officer did not call for backup because he was drinking at a gay bar and did not want his fellow officers to know. So after an altercation with the Native American (the man claims he was just asking for a ride home because his girlfriend left without him), he chased him through a semi residential area and shot him in the head. He was found innocent, claiming it was self defense. The city is shocked to say the least. Last year the Native American was found innocent of trying to steal the pickup. This town is scary when it comes to what the police can get away with!
    1. MrsBlog
      unbelievable!

Aston Martin opens first dealership in Croatia.
Luxury sports-car producer Aston Martin formally opened its first dealership in Croatia on Wednesday.
The 302-square-metre showroom, which opened for business in the centre of Zagreb in February, incorporates Aston Martin's key retail-design elements, accommodates five cars and includes a dedicated service facility.
Bez said he was not afraid of the financial crisis that had hit the car industry and believed that Aston Martin luxury sports cars would find customers in Croatia.

    Cool!
    1. MrsBlog
amazing - but on another hand it seems like the truly rich people are not influenced by the crisis. So that is why Opel in Germany is dying slowly and most probably will be closed very soon and Aston Martin is simply having a Renaissance..

Interesting with visums. Same story happened in Denmark for some years ago, when the nationalist party DF came to power.

No comments to the priest....at all...

The TV show Battlestar Galactica wrapped up on Friday. It's not the biggest news, but it did affect me directly (i.e., I won't have to watch TV anymore on Friday nights).

Oh yeah, and something about the economy being "bad"...
  36. areka
My once lovely country, Malaysia is in a mess now because of corrupted politicians!
  37. areka
Malaysia is expecting a change in Prime Minister in two weeks prior to the biggest political party election starting tomorrow.

The ruling party is clamping down on critical bloggers and today banned two newspapers belonging to opposition parties.

A few days ago, 6 bloggers were charged in court. The government is surpressing freedom of information and speeches here.
    1. MrsBlog
so sad. All the best to you

The Casandra Awards were given last night.

    I didn't bother watching them.
    1. MrsBlog
sorry for my ignorance, I didn't have any clue about Cassandra Awards before. Now googled them... are you from Dominican Republic?
    2. Friday13
Yes, I am. The Casandra Awards are a combination of what the Oscars, Emmys and Grammys are in the U.S.

Sir Fred Goodwin (who drove the Royal Bank of Scotland into the ground so it had to be rescued by the government and then walked away with an enormous pension of £703,000 a year tax free) has had his home and car attacked...
    1. MrsBlog
      well, anybody showing compassion?
p.s. but at least his title nobody can take away from him...
    2. Epicharis
Even I'm finding it hard to feel sorry for him and I really don't think attacking people is the right way to achieve anything. He's the most hated man in Britain at the moment...Even the impartial news media is struggling not to be biased!

The queen could take his title away from him if she wanted to...that would be nice..
    3. MrsBlog
oh, can she? has she ever did it before?
Actually, with all respect for your queen, personally think that her choices of choosing the nominees of the title have not always been very lucky.
    4. Epicharis
She doesn't actually choose them...the government does and makes recommendations and she then gives honours to all of those people.

She recently stripped Robert Mugabe of his honorary knighthood...to which everyone in Britain went "Why the hell did he have one in the first place?!"

And you can be as disrespectful as you like to the queen...
