Blog Followers, Twitter Followers, Email Subscribers, Facebook Friends, or something else?

And why?

Personally, I think email subscribers are the most valuable as they have opted in (double opt in usually) and receive new content to their email inbox every time you post. I find the other forms of following more passive.

I agree with you. RSS and email subscribers are the most loyal of them all, in my opinion.
  2. NewsMeBack
Of course RSS. It's best way to read and be read.

Depends on what your goals are. Email subscribers typically read less than RSS subscribers. Also they hardly click through to your site so if you are looking for ad revenue they aren't the strongest group.

Search ranks number one. Then people that actually go to your site and are attached to you via social media. They are the people that are going to be advocates and share you content most likely.

Email deliveries don't need to include the full posting, so if the readers want to see the rest after a teaser intro, they need to click through. Also, you can include affiliate ads in those email deliveries and make sales without them ever showing up on your blog.

When you say search, you mean like Google or Bing? That is by far the major contributor of my traffic, like 90% of it.

      Thanks for your input.

So you give out truncated feeds? That is a dick move.

When I say search I mean search... it is all encompassing. Do you honestly have any idea what you are talking about?

Dude, it's you that's being the dick. To answer your question, no I don't give out truncated feeds, but if I did, I wouldn't consider that to be a dick move. I was merely pointing out some alternates to your original statement.

I can't think of a more generic statement than "search ranks number one" so congratulations on such a profound statement.

If you want to belittle me, great. It wont be the first time today. I posed a question looking for input, and yes trying to learn from bloggers that know more than I do.

But in your triumphant return, you've been nothing but an ass.

It was a horrible question that changed totally depending on goals, audience, target market, and numerous other factors.

Also you are a Phillies fan... so yeah.

Nowadays you can have ads in your RSS feed, so your RSS readers don't need to click through to your site. Still, you can get them to click through to your site for polls, or asking them for their opinions etc.

Those who take the time to visit and comment are the most important in my book -- I need the ego boost.
    1. DailyBeerReview
      That's why I comment.
    2. MissSuzie
And I hearts you for it!
    3. DailyBeerReview
No, I meant I do it to be the most important in your book, not to boost your ego.
    4. MissSuzie
      Well damn then.

I only read blogs via my feed reader, so even if I subscribe to emails, I delete them.

The most traffic by far is from search hits, then direct traffic, then from twitter and here.

The ones that stay for the longest are from direct hits, twitter and here.

RSS must live forever, it`s effectively and simply in use
