I have never been to India but have worked with many a fine Indian businessman!

Probably why I love living in the United States - the incredible opportunities to labor alongside others in this "land of opportunity!"
  2. cranelegs
usually freedom of speech, but when that gets a little dicey, i can always fall back on "right turn on red" and thin crust pizza.

The US rocks, mainly because of our freedoms. In some other countries you can't bash their president openly or watch certain TV shows...in the US we get to bash Bush and it's ok, and we get to watch and listen to what we want too. The US is also great because in this country you have many opportunities to become self made, also you have 50 states to choose where you want to live, so if you don't like being around old retired people in Florida, then you can just move to California with the tan, young and self absorbed people, or you can pick a state that is cold or hot or not too cold or hot
Also, we have a strong democracy where we get to choose our president, governors, and senators...some other countries dont get to do that crap. And we have have a strong 2 party system, though kind of debatable if the republicans are strong right now, but they are crawling back slowly.
Anyways, those are all the reasons I can think of as to why the US is the best country, though I'm sure you intended for us to only pick one reason...I just couldn't help myself.
    1. HollytheHousewife
as a republican I sooo agree with you.
Except we really don't have democracry.
      We live in a REPUBLIC.
I wish we had democracy, but don't get me wrong
I love the USA for the same reasons u love
the USA / FREEDOM FREEDOM FREEDOM. It's even fun to say.

Which one? I have two countries. The USA and Australia. Both children of Britain, with unique personalities. I love Australia and have been living here for years. One day though, I sense I will have to go back to the USA to live the life I would have lived if I'd stayed, at least for a while.

When an Aussie is unhappy they can be passive-aggressive, whereas an American is just plain aggressive. Aussies have good humour, whereas Americans are VERY easily offended, hence why the Blog Catalog forums are so often in turmoil.

Simply because people in our country are nice and there are many places here in the Philippines on which most people will love to have vacation.
  10. SweetViolet
Well, South Africa has the same freedoms American's cherish and even a few more.

I like the weather, a lot of the food, the opportunity to rise above your beginnings here. In many ways, SA is much like America in the 50s, when the economy was growing and people were able to support families on just one income, and the ability to start your own business was not so restricted that the average guy was prohibited from branching out on his own.

The beaches here are fabulous, the wine country beautiful (and the wines tasty), the vacation spots stunning. I like that I can live a more affluent life here than I could in America (don't have to work, drive a Mercedes, have a maid). I like that my maid's children, if they do well in school, can look forward to full scholarships (and jobs) from local companies...a cousin is currently studying accounting on a full bursary from a major international accounting firm and will have a job with them when he gets his degree. He'll be a Chartered Accountant (CPA) one day.

I am more free here than I was in America...gender equality is written into the constitution. Gay people are fully equal with everyone else. It's a terrific place to be.

Oh...did I mention the miles and miles of beaches and the glorious weather?
    1. MadMadMargo

I love to walk through our mountains that seem to go on forever. And in each turn of the trail, the wind whispers a different way, speaking some new secret. I touch the trees, some of which are the oldest bristlecones or the tallest redwoods and I feel the tingling of energy in the darkest canopy of needles.

I love the deserts in springtime, when the ocotillo flames in red and wildflowers burst in yellow, lavendar, and orange. And everywhere the silence is profound.

I love the farmlands that feed the world, and cities that embrace every ethnicity, how their lights glisten in the moonlight and twinkle in the evening breeze.

I love the bay that has begun many stories, bejeweled by bridges that span for miles and miles.

I love the spray of the cold ocean that flows from Alaska and cools our cities from the desert blast.

I love the flag of the bear that beckons in the wind and remember the people under it whom I have loved.

I love the frontline struggle for human rights in my country and am happy to have been a small part of it.

This is my California, the land in which I was born.

I think the best thing about my country is that we have representation from so many othere countries here. We have Indian-Americans, British-Americans, Chinese-Americans, etc. When you're on American soil there is a spirit inside you that you can't deny. Our differences unite us and we all bring something to the table. It's like a mini-world, or a huge frat party.

Of course, I know that's how it is here in San Francisco, but throughout most of America it's a bit different. One thing's for sure, it's a very prideful thing to be an American. Even after all the mess we're going through, we stick together.

Being a mongrel dog, my true country is the world. As I am of Scots, Irish, Indian, Anglo-Saxon, Norman (French), Spanish, and German extraction. Cultures may differ but we all have the same fears, hopes and dreams, along with a common desire for a satisfying, more abundant life.
There is something very special about my world, and so it is in every country that graces this planet. The light of any nation is in it's people. Indeed, if we could set aside all the things that are bad, everywhere that one may look, there is much good to be found! Just don't tell Washington, or they will come and take it from you.
    1. MadMadMargo
      Very well said.

Definitely the people. For all their flaws Filipinos are the kindest people on earth. We have a bottomless well of patience and compassion, we can smile through our troubles and still forgive the people who screw us. We have good-natured tendencies that almost border on stupidity. I guess that's why we are exploited and abused. That's just the way it is with us...

We are patriotic and unite. Although, I am afraid that something that makes us stand out at this time is the deception our people are living in.

I see Lord Lytton has returned from the depths of Hell. The thing about the bloody imperial English, is that they never seem to learn. There is no reason to create animosities here. It is hard for one to forgive an insolent spirit like that, but to do otherwise would only be feeding it.

    My country THE BEST ?
    - No, it's one in all the countries in the world !
I love its RED lands with gullies, its quiet people, its blue oceans and some forests ...
That's my country: Madagascar, a big island !
    But, I love TOO:
    - France where my children are born !
    - Canada: a part of my family is canadian
    - Afrca where I work with its people... so kindly, the sun, the parfumes, the colours, the songs...
I LOVE THE WORLD ... and my hope is "to make many travels" yet !

From the beautiful and peaceful Canada I give you reasons to love it:
    1. The toque. For inventing hat hair, Canuck-style.
    2. Joni Mitchell. The Prairie priestess of poetry. For singing Butterbox Babies and A Case of You.
    3. Tim Hortons. For brewing coffee that tastes as good as it smells. And for chocolate sour cream Timbits.
    4. Polar bears. Big, white, beautiful.
    5. Snow. Because we can't control it. And can't stop talking about it.
    6. Melting pot. Our ethnic soup does not always make for a smooth multicultural mix, but mostly it works.
    7. Howie Mandel. Obsessive-compulsive, bald, funny. The real deal.
    8. Bay Street. Because Wall Street needs an evil twin.
    9. Terry Fox. For still giving cancer a run for the money, 25 years on.
    10. Democracy. One free vote. Priceless.

There are thousands more reasons to come to Canada but I want waste anymore of your time as I'm sure you want to get your passport in order and get up here

You English did give us Benny Hill, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. I shoud love you for that reason alone, but making us all wear pants? I know times have changed, and we can now let things dangle in the breeze if we so desire, but it is no longer the same; and on a very cold day like today, few would argue that pants are not a good thing.

I'm from the Philippines. I'm blogging about it at tagamonumento.blogspot.com/. It is the Bonifacio Monument (also known simply as the Monumento) in Caloocan City. It is a monument in honor of the Philippines' greatest revolutionary hero, Andres Bonifacio, who led Asia's first national uprising against a European colonial power in 1896. The Philippine Revolution of 1896 is said to have inspired to other Asian leaders such as Sun Yat Sen, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru.

Our online petition at www.gopetition.com/online/23996 seeks to have the Bonifacio Monument included among the UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites. Unfortunately, the Monumento, as my blog will show, is a seriously threatened monument. Signing the online petition, visiting my blog and following it should help in saving the Monumento.

    Thanks guys!
