As I was standing in line at Starbucks, I was aware of the line. It made me think of standing in lines when I went to church. And that made me wonder about other lines I stand in or have stood in. At the moment, I probably dislike standing in line at the grocery store more than other places. I used to hate standing in line at banks, until ATM's. But perhaps with more self check outs at grocers, lines won't be an issue. Maybe technology will eliminate lines!!

I hate standing in lines at discount stores. I love outlet stores because I love bargains but most of those stores are understaffed so you have to wait in line a really long time.

I wanted to buy a handbag that was marked down about 200.00 from TJ Maxx a couple of days ago--but I got so irritated at the line and how slow the cashiers were that I put it back and walked out!

I am known to have problems with patience, though.

At amusement parks with the kids. I hate that because the kids are impatient and it makes it worse.
    1. melindaville
Oh yeah! Kids are more impatient than I am even! Standing in line with kids at an amusement park sounds like a little slice of hell, really.

Health dept, when your trying to get shot records day before school starts!!!

I would rather go to the dentist(which is one of my phobias)!!!!
    1. amybyrd21
thankfully I live in a small town and our health dept isnt that bad. It still takes for ever to get anything from them though
    2. HollytheHousewife
Well mine is the worst, and the workers are sooooooo rude! I've had to put them in check a couple of times,by telling them I'm their boss, without my tax dollars
Your booty wouldn't have a job!!!

They sooooo know who hthw is now.

Lines at "fast food" outlets with incredibly slow workers especially when I'm really hungry... LOL

School registration lines. My daughter's school has a brilliant plan by which they send out all of the forms in advance, then you come in to the school and stand in five separate lines--one to turn in your registration forms (no interaction, just turn it in), one to turn in your health forms (same), one to pick up your schedule, one to pay your fees (pre-determined--they just take your pre-written check or credit card form) and one to get your locker number and combination.

You have to present your pass from the previous table at each station, so you can't even have the kid get in one line while you're in another. It takes about two hours to turn in two forms and a check and pick up a schedule and locker assignment.

Yes madame...my girls school let's you pre register at the end of the school year, I love it. Makes it soooooo much easier on the first day. Plus you get to request the teacher u want!!!!

Oh u soooo just reminded me open house is tonight!!!

I rarely go to WalMart, but when I have, the lines have been amazing. I know to allot at least an extra 45 minutes just to wait in line. And I'm generally a pretty patient person.
    1. LGramlich
Ah, one of the prices of "convenience." That's one (of many) reasons I haven't even stepped foot into a Wal*Mart in almost 2 years now.

I can tolerate long lines. It's the cashiering itself I'm not so fond of. It takes all kinds, people putting a kid with a very wet butt on the counter, kids hanging from railings. You tell the parents they can't do that and the kid breaks something and then they try to sue. There are the people who don't shower or brush their teeth. I learned to hold my breath while taking orders. There was one time a man walked in and he was in tights. Poor thing must have been college hazing.

The worst line to stand in? Any government service in any country in the world.

I've seen lines that literally last for days at embassies/consulates, and the line here at Home Affairs can take 4 to 6 hours just to get to the head of the line.

Any line at a McDonalds! They have no system...your standing in a line and then another opens up, people that were behind you all of a sudden are ahead of you. P!sses my off!
    1. liggybee
That can happen anywhere...sometimes when I'm at a checkout line in the grocery store (and even at Kmart and Target), they'll open up another register and say, "I'll take the next person here!" Suddenly the people behind me move over there and check out before I do. That's frustrating!!!
  13. F4wrdthnkndad
Since posting this, I had to stand in line for a sandwich at Einstein bagels. It felt like the longest line because the student employees appeared to be moving in slow motion.
  14. NatetheGrate
I hate all lines. It's my life that's being wasted! I'd rather go outside and enjoy the weather -- whatever it is -- than wait on a freakin' line!

The line in which you are behind a thousand people and the first person on it is many years away from being attended to:

    Any books of records watching?

DMV. Worst line ever. I just go to AAA instead.
  17. Funkkeejooce
All lines are bad specially if you're right at the end.

The line for the bathroom at a concert or sporting event. By the time you get there, you have to go real bad and the line takes forever!
    1. timethief
      100% agreement from me.
    2. pandora106
Totally the wash room. I'll do any thing if I have to go, budge in line or raid the men's wash room (learnt that at Expo '86).
    3. JenniferWrites
Yes! I agree with this one! The womens' line is always SO much longer than the mens', too!
    4. liggybee
Heck yeah! I try not to fill up with too much drinks so I don't have to go to the restroom at those places.

The one to see Star Wars: A New Hope special edition. I almost had a mental breakdown right there overhearing the super fan boys discuss every detail of every spacecraft in the movie. I really do mean every detail, and then a nice comparative analysis on each. Thank the lord for the Walkman!
  20. FreakSmack
    jaybetee beat me to it.
Sorry if one of you said this but I didn't see it, the worst line in the world is the one for a public restroom, especially when you have to sit. This can be a very painful situation physically, plus you have the mental strain of not knowing what you are going to find in there when it's your turn the sights sounds and smells can be horrendous. Guess what you just sat down and the bigun who was just sitting left the seat nice and warm for you. mmm crabs

The place I dread going to the most solely because of the lines especially in the past couple of months is the local Employment Office.

It's a really bad feeling being behind all those people because if you are there, you're in the same situation they are and it makes you feel kind of like a needle in a hay-stack -- how are employers ever going to find you?

About two or three hours of standing in one of those lines will make you feel pretty crappy.
  22. F4wrdthnkndad
The day is still young and yet I had to wait in line at the gas station. I need a bottle of hand sanitizer just to hold the pump.
  23. F4wrdthnkndad
    Standing in line to vote....
    1. DollinNYC
Last year was the only time I have really had to wait in line to vote- about 30 minutes, and we went at 7 am ..
  24. cindygeenotes
I'd have to say airport security is about the worst.
    1. cookingasshole
try airport security with an infant/toddler!
    2. DollinNYC
Can't you just put the infant in a bin and roll her through that machine? That's not very hard!
    3. cookingasshole
they will not let you do that
    4. DollinNYC
      I take it you tried??
    5. cookingasshole
My woman flew solo with her first so she instructed me on what to do so I made no mistakes.
    6. DollinNYC
o you have a smart woman.
    7. cookingasshole

worst line is for the portapotty!! one you have to pee/poo. 2 so does everyone else. 3 its filthy so you never wanna go there anyway! and 4... theres only one to use lol.
  26. Cynnamama
Have never like to do Christmas exchanges/returns at any stores right after the holiday and standing in "maze" lines!
  27. DailyBeerReview
Long lines totally suck. But they suck most when you are begging for a retailer to take your money! Someone above wrote that they had a great deal in their hands, but got so frustrated and lost patience in line that they put it back. Screw that! Drop it where you are if you are gonna walk out. I've left shopping carts full of crap in line at Wal-Mart.

The line leading up to the casket of a loved one to say the final goodbye always seems to be the worst for me.

All those others are sure annoying, and some you'll have to do more than once.
But, this one is a wait that is final.

Posted wrong spot. newbies - sheesh!
  29. F4wrdthnkndad
Yes it's true that women carry a greater burden when it comes to public restrooms. However there is a creepy, extemely awkward waiting for the men's room, including; the bathrooms with one toilet and one urinal; standing in a space so small, it feels intrusive to stand so close the guy using the stall.
  30. DrJuliaChicken
    The line of FIRE.
  31. LisaNYC
The line I stood in yesterday at the New York City Department of Motor Vehicles to renew my driver's license, made worse by the constant, annoying automated voice calling the numbers on our tickets and which window to step up to, again and again and again and again and again and again and again.........
  32. F4wrdthnkndad
I'm guessing standing in line in a police line up can be a pretty unpleasant ordeal. Perhaps "Freaksmack" could offer some input since he appears to be quite familiar with the criminal justice system.

Waiting in line at the VA hospital for my seasonal flu shot.

At a fabric shop.. you have to stand in a long line waiting to get your fabric measured and cut. (or for someone to make up their mind how much they want)
And then you have to stand in another long line to pay for it.. ugh! I love fabric shops but hate the system..
  35. TLAnarchist
Why do people ask questions like this?
  36. F4wrdthnkndad
TL-Since I asked the question, I can tell you why I asked it. While observing myself standing in line, I wondered about the experience of standing in line. Some might call that living in the moment. And then I wondered if technology is replacing the need for lines. And then I was curious about the worst line to be in. And much to my surprise, it appears many people have feelings about standing in lines.
  37. F4wrdthnkndad
As I stood in line at CVS for a prescription, there was only one person in front of me. However this can be as bad as a long line of people. She required many calls to her doctor, insurance company, and the manager. It took as long as 10 people standing in front of me.
  38. alexinabox
    Pft, Starbucks.
    I lied.

Haven't been in one for a long time but according to my friend, lines to go on rides are hell. I can understand why.
