What's the Worst line to Stand in?

Topics: grocery store lines, stand in lines
As I was standing in line at Starbucks, I was aware of the line. It made me think of standing in lines when I went to church. And that made me wonder about other lines I stand in or have stood in. At the moment, I probably dislike standing in line at the grocery store more than other places. I used to hate standing in line at banks, until ATM's. But perhaps with more self check outs at grocers, lines won't be an issue. Maybe technology will eliminate lines!!

I hate standing in lines at discount stores. I love outlet stores because I love bargains but most of those stores are understaffed so you have to wait in line a really long time.
I wanted to buy a handbag that was marked down about 200.00 from TJ Maxx a couple of days ago--but I got so irritated at the line and how slow the cashiers were that I put it back and walked out!
I am known to have problems with patience, though.

Health dept, when your trying to get shot records day before school starts!!!
I would rather go to the dentist(which is one of my phobias)!!!! -
School registration lines. My daughter's school has a brilliant plan by which they send out all of the forms in advance, then you come in to the school and stand in five separate lines--one to turn in your registration forms (no interaction, just turn it in), one to turn in your health forms (same), one to pick up your schedule, one to pay your fees (pre-determined--they just take your pre-written check or credit card form) and one to get your locker number and combination.
You have to present your pass from the previous table at each station, so you can't even have the kid get in one line while you're in another. It takes about two hours to turn in two forms and a check and pick up a schedule and locker assignment. -
I rarely go to WalMart, but when I have, the lines have been amazing. I know to allot at least an extra 45 minutes just to wait in line. And I'm generally a pretty patient person.

I can tolerate long lines. It's the cashiering itself I'm not so fond of. It takes all kinds, people putting a kid with a very wet butt on the counter, kids hanging from railings. You tell the parents they can't do that and the kid breaks something and then they try to sue. There are the people who don't shower or brush their teeth. I learned to hold my breath while taking orders. There was one time a man walked in and he was in tights. Poor thing must have been college hazing.

Any line at a McDonalds! They have no system...your standing in a line and then another opens up, people that were behind you all of a sudden are ahead of you. P!sses my off!

The line in which you are behind a thousand people and the first person on it is many years away from being attended to:

Any books of records watching? -
The line for the bathroom at a concert or sporting event. By the time you get there, you have to go real bad and the line takes forever!

jaybetee beat me to it.
Sorry if one of you said this but I didn't see it, the worst line in the world is the one for a public restroom, especially when you have to sit. This can be a very painful situation physically, plus you have the mental strain of not knowing what you are going to find in there when it's your turn the sights sounds and smells can be horrendous. Guess what you just sat down and the bigun who was just sitting left the seat nice and warm for you. mmm crabs -
The place I dread going to the most solely because of the lines especially in the past couple of months is the local Employment Office.
It's a really bad feeling being behind all those people because if you are there, you're in the same situation they are and it makes you feel kind of like a needle in a hay-stack -- how are employers ever going to find you?
About two or three hours of standing in one of those lines will make you feel pretty crappy. -

Long lines totally suck. But they suck most when you are begging for a retailer to take your money! Someone above wrote that they had a great deal in their hands, but got so frustrated and lost patience in line that they put it back. Screw that! Drop it where you are if you are gonna walk out. I've left shopping carts full of crap in line at Wal-Mart.

The line leading up to the casket of a loved one to say the final goodbye always seems to be the worst for me.
All those others are sure annoying, and some you'll have to do more than once.
But, this one is a wait that is final. -
Yes it's true that women carry a greater burden when it comes to public restrooms. However there is a creepy, extemely awkward waiting for the men's room, including; the bathrooms with one toilet and one urinal; standing in a space so small, it feels intrusive to stand so close the guy using the stall.

The line I stood in yesterday at the New York City Department of Motor Vehicles to renew my driver's license, made worse by the constant, annoying automated voice calling the numbers on our tickets and which window to step up to, again and again and again and again and again and again and again.........

TL-Since I asked the question, I can tell you why I asked it. While observing myself standing in line, I wondered about the experience of standing in line. Some might call that living in the moment. And then I wondered if technology is replacing the need for lines. And then I was curious about the worst line to be in. And much to my surprise, it appears many people have feelings about standing in lines.
