I'm looking for ideas of new things to do that don't cost much.

Blogging and walking are obvious, but have you any other suggestions for interesting stuff to get involved in?

Most museums have a free day once a month.

Buy one hot new novel off the shelf, read it then perpetually trade it on bookmooch or another book trading site.

You can rent movies and music at the library.

Find a group in your town to join like a book reading club or investment club or a quilting bee or gamers who get together to beat one another's scores.

Digital photography is a fun hobby to take up. You get to learn how to crop and resize and insert captions and all that.

Volunteering in your town is VERY rewarding too.

@pinkmimosa - thank you for these ideas. I love reading but I'm a hoarder and re-reader. I just can't bear to trade or give them away.

Volunteering for a worthy cause (it's a great way to meet other people with similar values, plus you're doing something good.)

    Flying kites.

    Hiking at a nature area

Taking a seminar or short class at your local community college. Hubby and I took Italian one semester, pottery another. Local colleges also offer cooking classes or web design workshops. I took cake decorating with girlfriends one summer. It can be a fun thing to look forward to.

Thank you for all the good suggestions.

@Midwestmom - kite flying. Strange, I live in a windy place and near a beach but I'd never really thought of that.
