I hearted March of the Penguins & Winged Migration.
    1. PetLvr
Winged Migration was excellent! Thanks for reminding me on that one! My wife absolutely loved it, and even recorded it and had to show friends and her sister out in the country on satellite, who didn't get it at the time.

March of the Penguins .. I'll probably get around to watching that one day
    2. LGramlich
      Winged Migration was stunning.
  2. offendedblogger
I agree, March of the Penguins is my top animal movie. I actually cried at parts of it!! It was done so well.

I also love Babe. It was one of the kid's favorites when they were little, so it always holds a special place with me.
    1. PetLvr
Which scenes did your kids enjoy the most? (wondering if its up on YouTube)
    2. LGramlich
March of the Penguins made me cry, too.

    Jaws - Because it's a modern Epic.
    12 Monkeys - Because it's a modern Tragedy.
    1. PetLvr
I'm a Bruce Willis Fan .. 12 Monkeys is in my top 20 favorites of all time, and definitely be on a list or two thanks.

I thought Cujo was one of the scariest and saddest films I've ever seen.
    1. PetLvr
Was Cujo scary? I remember laughing throughout that movie, how happy and playful that dog was .. then, they would zoom in on his eyes so you don't see the dog smiling.

But, worth adding to a list!
  5. ettarose
Shrek, wasn't he an animal? Oh well. I cried over Charlotte's Web
    1. PetLvr
The donkey is an animal .. Not sure what Shrek is .. My wife's niece like Charlotte's web or the soundtrack I believe.
  6. Anok
Yeah, I gotta go with March of the penguins too. I've watched it so many times that I know when the sad parts are coming, and I leave the room for some reason or another. I don't like watching the baby 'guins get hurt!

On a related note, I thought that Happy Feet was a fabulous animated film, and it has a great soundtrack

Lemme see, we have tons of animal movies and I can't think of a single one, of course!
    1. offendedblogger
I've yet to see Happy Feet.

I always loved the Fox and the Hound as a kid, still watch it now and then hehe.
    2. Anok
Oh yeah, that's one we have, it's a cute movie. Happy feet is great - Robin Williams is hysterical in it. Besides, there are dancing penguins!
    3. PetLvr
I fell asleep watching Happy Feet lol .. But, it was a long day that weekend. We did a double bill - with Ice Age (liked that actually)
  7. jackpayne
K-9 (1988 movie), Jim Belushi's best acting effort, is my all-time favorite animal movie. The acting by Jerry Lee (the German Shepard) is the very best by a dog I've ever seen on film.

Babe, the pig, also ranks high, and March of the Penguins was a tear-jerker if ever there was one
Disney's 8 Below was great too.

(As an aside, did you know that Toto the dog was paid more money for "The Wizard of Oz" than Judy Garland's mother collected for her daughter's portrayal of Dorothy?)
    1. PetLvr
I keep trying to remember K-9 .. but keep thinking Turner & Hooch with Tom Hanks .. I'm sure I saw it though - I was always a Belushi fan. I'll have to find clips of that on YouTube

PS did not know that about Toto .. good trivia.

    Without seeming frivolous I liked:

    Flushed Away...had rats

    Ratatouille - more rats

    Surfs Up - penguins

    Happy Feet - more penguins

and Ice Age - he appearance by the Dodo's was legendary

Oh, I also like Pepe la Phew and Snagglepuss
  13. alexmcone
I'd say The Jungle Book. Almost every character in it was exemplary.
  14. witewood
What's your favorite overal animal movie and why? Maybe one that was on yesterday, the 1991 remake of White Fang. The feelgood factor.

What's the saddest animal movie you've ever watched? Without doubt, Ring of Bright Water. What a great title, enjoyable film, BUT THAt ending!!!!!

Who's your favorite Animal character in movies? cartoons? Dino in The Flintstones! Does that count as animal?
    1. PetLvr
I'll have to check out Ring of Bright Water .. never heard of it ..

And, yes - Dino counts Whole different ball game

      And Hmmm and ..
      Astro from the Jetsons?
      Scooby Doo

DUH - Brian from Family Guy
  15. Rozie818
    Underworld
Always had a soft side for the Werewolf, and Kate Beckinsale was very cool in it although she killed them.
  16. JunkDrawer
Milo & Otis (Koneko monogatari, 1986) -- Beautifully shot, touching story about a cat and dog's friendship and adventures, told through the eyes of the animals. US version narrated by Dudley Moore.
    1. PetLvr
I think I'll have to watch that one .. it looks like it could be one of the favorites! // thanks for pointing that out

      www.youtube.com/watch?v=goix8a6xMok
    2. EcoInsomniac
I second the Milo & Otis it's a great movie.
  17. earthandeconomy
Ahh come on, you left this one wide open for the taking:

    Ace Ventura - Pet Detective
  18. starwish
Lion King - simply the best!
  19. inmyredhead
Ditto on the George Orwell Animal Farm. There is a new 'softer' version that is no where near as good. Totally looses the point really. Seek out the original.

Spirit is one of my absolute favorites. It's such an awesome blend of a cartoon from the point of a REAL horse. Gorgeous animation too. Love it!
  20. ThriftShopRomantic
"The Bear." Sweet little live-action film that tells the story supposedly from a bear cubs POV. Funny and sad and all the things you'd expect from a film like that, and done with very little dialogue.
  21. gosmelltheflowers
    Does Shrek count?
  22. creativedreamevent
Have you ever seen People of the Forrest? It was a 20 year study of chimp family structure and behavior. It is the best ever. I believe Discovery Channel has it for sale. I bought it when it first came out on VHS. It is also the saddest movie because you can not help becoming attached to the animals as you watch them grow, play, grieve. They are all too human for comfort.

Favorite Cartoon animal? Donkey from Shrek. Shrek definitely counts!

Happiest animal movie is Because of Winn Dixie! I could watch that a 1000 times and never get bored.

Funniest moment was probably in Evan Almighty. Great animal film especially if you watch the bonus features that explain how the film was made and how the animals were trained. Think how many adjacent on the food chain were "supposedly" in the same place at the same time. Took a lot of logistics and careful scheduling!

I loved Babe, just because it was unbelievably adorable

    and Shrek hilarious!!
