I live on the west cost of Canada in a micro-climate where we have 4 seasons but where I live the temperatures are considered to be Mediterranean.

I like spring, summer and fall but not winter because it rains a lot and because I have fibromylagia and have no tolerance for the cold and wet.

The four seasons are usually used as a framing backdrop for the story, as each season has traits traditionally associated with it.

Spring is usually associated with new beginnings, birth, rebirth and budding as plants and flowers form new leaves and flowers, animals return, and the weather becomes warmer. Spring, is a time for natural rebirth, reproduction among animals, etc. Spring symbolizes the awakening of life, and positive change.

Summer is also associated simply with brightness, warmth, growth and life.

Autumn is normally associated with a time of transition, as life dies (leaves fall off trees, birds and animals migrate or hibernate, etc.).

Winter is symbolized by loss harshness, coldness and lifelessness.

My favorite season extends from late summer into autumn.

I love this season because it's harvest time and there is an abundance of fruit and vegetables available for eating and preserving. I love the changing colors of the trees and shrubs. I love the short cool nights and the long warm days. I love the fact that most tourists have left but the weather is still warm and the forest trails and beaches are relatively empty.

    - I live in Southern California.

    - How things are:
Winter: Cold and rainy days alternated with summer-hot dry days.

    Spring: Warm to hot

    Summer: Hot to scorching

Autumn: Warm with occasional cool days

    - I like all the seasons, they all have their own beauty, but spring and winter are nice here.

    - I like winter because it's just romantic. I like spring because it just feels fresh and happy.

      @sahar;
Where do you live in Southern California? I spent a great deal of my childhood in Fontana and Bloomington! I fell in love with the beautiful views of the San Bernadino Mountains, and have never been able to cope living somewhere where I can't see mountains.

My Hubby was born and raised in Hollywood California

What I forgot to say in the OP is that I also associate the four seasons with the four directions.

Spring (East) - Spring is the season of immaturity - leave yet to unfurl and buds yet to become blossoms. The sun rises in the east and we first begin to become attuned to spring when the sun begins to rise earlier and the days begin to become noticeably longer.

Summer (South) - Summer is the season of growth and production. The intense southern sun that brings forth burgeoning abundant growth. We witness wildlife babies and birds gamboling, playing and learning how to fly.

Autumn (West) - Autumn is the season of fruiting and maturity. It's the season when after our days work we appreciate the evening sun before it sets in the west.

Winter (North) - Winter is the season of hiberation and death. In winter the northern winds blow, the precipitation falls, the days are short and the nights are long. We huddle by the hearth, close to home, hibernating and looking anxiously towards the east for the first signs of spring.

      @ Timethief, no problem

@ Arcticulates, I live in Upland and am moving to Rancho. I know what you mean about the mountains on every side of us. It's beautiful, especially right now since they're covered in snow.

@ busylizzy, oh yeah, how could I have forgot those? I enjoy them so, so much, lol.

    I live in West Virginia.
We have all 4 seasons. Hot sun, fall leaves, snow, and spring rain and flowers.
    I don't have a favorite season.
I love the way snow glistens like glitter, The golden daffodils that bloom in spring time, I was born on summer solstice and I love roses that come out around that time, and I love to watch the leaves turn in fall.

I live in southeast Alabama. We pretty much have four seasons. Lots of rain throughout the year (though we're technically in a drought right now). Muggy damp heat during the summer. Fall is nice. Dry and crisp and windy. Fall is my favorite.

When I was younger and growing up in Maine I LOVED autumn. All those colors of changing leaves make it one of the most beautiful places on Earth during Autumn.

BUT, since living in New Mexico I have grown to just ADORE summer. I love the warm light happiness of summer. Hiking, camping, rafting and more.

Geez, TT, I just read your comments above and love what you wrote about summer. It is so ME at this point in my life. Cool!

      @Robin
Summer and autumn are the seasons of the year when I rarely experience a fibromyalgia flare-up. Spring can be rainy and winter is both cold and rainy. The short days of winter also bring on SAD (Seasonal affective disorder). But during summer and autumn I do all the things you mentioned and more besides, and I do them - pain free! Yes! I adore the brightness of full sunshine and the light-hearted way I feel when I can move without hurting.

I'm a New Englander, and we get all four seasons in full blown status.

I love all four seasons, but in order of favorites: Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer.

The change is what I need most, as I love each new season for the unique qualities they bring to us. Once I tire of one season, it's already time for the next one.

      @dosox
Thanks for participating. Yes, spring is the grand season or rebirth. I had to look up Nagaland. Although the monsoons don't sound appealing, it sounds like it's very green, lush and beautiful.

"Nagaland is rich in flora and fauna. About one-sixth of Nagaland is under the cover of tropical and sub-tropical evergreen forests - including palms, bamboo and rattan as well as timber and mahogany forests. While some forest areas have been cleared for jhum - cultivation - many scrub forests, high grass, reeds and secondary dogs, pangolins, porcupines, elephants, leopards, bears, many species of monkeys, sambar, deers, oxen and buffaloes thrive across the state's forests. The Great Indian Hornbill is one of the most famous birds found in the state." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagaland

    I live in Alaska
We have 4 seasons, Spring and Autumn are very quick, overnight practically, here one week and then gone. Or so it seems. Summer is around 3 months long, very plush and green with tons of wildflowers every where you look, very warm and beautiful. Winter is 7 sometimes 8 months long, very cold, snowy and beautiful too.

I am sorry but I don't agree with the symbolic descriptions of loss, harshness, coldness and lifelessness.

My view of Winter symbolizes rest... contemplation... hibernation... and planning. Because it seems that's when everyone calms down and seem more relaxed.

The ground is covered in a heavy beautiful blanket of snow, and the air is crisp and cold. The snowfalls are gently and there is a quietness in the atmosphere that is unexplainable.

A time for hot drinks, logs on the fire, and good books. A time to rest up and plan for the coming busy spring, summer, and fall days.

    Which makes winter my favorite.
    1. Anok
I've seen some of the beautiful foliage and flowers during spring and summer there. Just gorgeous!
    2. busylizzy
My uncle just bought a "summer" house in Alaska and invited us up. Maybe in a year or two. My dad's going up this summer, hoping for some awesome fishing trips.
    3. Arcticulates
I hope you get to come soon, you will love it. Alaska is known for the awesome fishing in the lakes, rivers and the ocean.
    4. timethief
      @arcticulates
I've actually lived in northern climates where it was 40 degrees below for 40 days on end. I clearly recall what it's like to live in a trapper's cabin all winter long close to great Bear Lake and plan for the arrival of spring. I was younger I enjoyed winter sports especially skating, skiing and dog sledding. However, I ended up with frostbitten fingers, toes and cheeks that culminated in Raynaud's, and as I now have fibromyalgia, too winter is no longer appealing to me unless viewed through a window, tv screen or monitor. Emotional stress and cold are classic triggers for both conditions. If someone with Raynaud's is placed in too cold a climate, it could potentially become dangerous.
  9. busylizzy
I like all four seasons for different reasons. I like a season if I can enjoy it. For example - what's the point of winter if you can't play in the snow or see it's beauty on the landscape? Staying indoors and freezing during trips across the parking lot at the grocery store is no fun. Summer is great if I can go to a pool or the beach but if it's just spending days indoors because it's too hot outside, then summer is no fun.
    1. Anok
I'm like that too - if it's too extreme I get antsy and upset.
    2. busylizzy
Anok - we've had a few snow days for the kids the past two years but either the snow wasn't deep enough for sledding and snowman making or the wind and air was just miserable and dangerous to be out in it.
    3. Anok
Ugh, I hate that! I like it when it's juuust right
    4. timethief
      @busylizzy
Good points. Provided one can be outdoors and enjoying the seasons they are all wonderful but when the weather traps you indoors then they aren't enjoyable at all.

I live in the mountains west of Washington DC. The New Englander in me likes the idea of a winter to make me feel more appreciative of spring. But I like where I am now, because we have about as long a spring and autumn as you can have. Fortunately, I don't mind if it is hazy, hot and humid (a hangover from my year's vacation in the tropics). So all in all, I'm good with just about any of it.

Fall, when the aspen leaves turn gold and orange on the mesa tops, and when the Semillon grapes are ready for harvest. There is nothing more amazing than fresh grape juice straight off the wine press and just before the maceration process.

I live in the Philippines, a tropical country. So yep, you guessed it right, it's either just Sunny or Rainy. What's really good is that the agricultural lands really benefit from it so our crops are abundant. We are an agricultural country after all but I guess it's beginning to go Industrial and I have no idea why. The country needs to make use of its argicultural land.

Anyway, I talked a lot LOL. My favorite would be rainy days without Thunder and Lightning. I'm afraid of those things LOL. My favorite about it is that it will be colder, people are sort of quiet because they're sleeping and I can relax by reading a book or reading something without noise. I do love noise sometimes, though.
    1. timethief
      @halfcrazy
We get really scary winter gales here off the sea. The winds are high. Trees fall over powerlines and the power goes out. Thunder and lightning are rare and when they do occur they scare the heck out of our animals. I don't blame you a bit for the way you feel about them. It sounds like rainy day without thunder or lightning are preferable to those that do have them.

you should also take a moment for those affected by the floods in the north, there were no casualties and subsequently less coverage but just as many affected, i thankfully live in a place that has on average 300 days of sunshine every year

Where I live there are fewer than 4,000 and that's fine with me. I've lived in huge cities, small, medium and large sized towns and in cabins and teepees in the bush. Many of the pleasures of living where I do are related to the fact that anonymity does not really exist here. Hence, fear and loathing and crime rates are very low, and cooperative projects that benefit the whole community are at the forefront. It's a civilized and safe place to live and a great place to raise kids.

When the earth is garbed in her snowy mantle the view is tranquil and calm and all is still. The crunch of snow underfoot is all one can hear in the silence as the sun sparkles on whiteness of the snowbanks so brightly that sunglasses are required. Yes, I recall cold and snowy winters very well. But "no" I don't want to experience them any more so I'm happy to say that it rarely snows where I choose to live. I'm glad to hear that you like winter best of all because on PA you have one every year.

I live in a four season climate, and it seems the older I get, the less I enjoy the Winter season. It’s cold, slushy, messy, and salty. It just doesn’t go well with my fastidious nature. Granted, I’m open-minded and can appreciate every season, it’s just that Winter doesn’t make feel good as it use to when I was a child. I know, the winters haven’t changed, I have. As a child, I just accepted Winter, played in the snow, built snowmen, snow forts, went sledding, associated it with Christmas and all the events that surround it, etc… But now I don’t do most of those things anymore, so Winter doesn’t have the same value as it used to. Maybe I should still go out in the snow and do those things. Why did I stop?

Being the optimist that I am, and trying to get that positive outlook, I was thinking of how Winter benefits me, and I finally came to a conclusion, one that made me feel good about winter again. Anytime I find myself liking or disliking one thing over another, I remind myself it is all relative. I should neither like or dislike something, but equally accept all. Given, I cannot deny that all things are unique in their own ways. I know that I should not value their differences one over the other. Everything creates one whole picture. I concluded that the coldness, the dreariness, the dryness of winter makes me all the more appreciate Spring and Summer. When Spring comes along, it’s all the more refreshing then if I were to live in a climate where it were Spring\Summer all year long. In a four season climate, Spring Fever is all the more powerful, more refreshing, more overcoming. There is contrast, which in turns creates this stronger distinct feeling. So, it’s back to the relativity again, except now, I learned to appreciate the relationship, and what it means. For example, If I were in an all year round spring environment, would I get spring fever? Would I love spring as much as I do now? Understanding this, I must love winter as well, for how it makes me feel about spring. It creates contrast, it makes spring beautiful. So it too, is beautiful for doing so. Both are equal, and part of one whole.

Same here and your observations are right on. If we didn't have the contrasts the seasons present then how would we know which season we prefer? As all are part of a continuum if we didn't have seasonal changes then what base would we have for appreciating the unique values and experiences that each season presents?

In Winnipeg Manitoba, we are subject to 4 seasons. However, if you asked others, they would say we have 2. Winter and summer. Winter tends to be the longest and temperatures get quite chilly - down to minus 50 celcius with the windchill. Spring and fall are relatively short with spring more welcomed than the fall. Summer often reveals temperatures up to plus 35 celcius and with the humidity it can feel like more.

Personally, I enjoy summer the most. Although, I do enjoy the other seasons for various reasons. However, if it were summer all year round, I think I would be quite happy.

Ahhh ... yes I do remember Winterpeg. In fact, years ago I was snowed in there during a blizzard. It was unbelievably cold and snowy. For two days the buses were out of service and road travel was risky business. I hope I never have to experience that bitter cold again. No wonder you prefer summer.

I live in the UK, Our seasons generally do fit into into quarters of the year...Dec, Jan, Feb - Winter; Mar, Apr, May - Spring; June, July, Aug - Summer and Sep, Oct and Nov - Autumn
We haven't had too much snow for years but this last winter has seen lower temperatures and more snow than we have had for some time. At night we have had temperatures down to about -10. Ironically this has made it a slightly better winter for me than some years. I really do not like winter. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark and I detest the dull cloudy skies. After a couple of months of this, it begins to get to me. It is not helped by the fact that I also suffer with eczema that gets really hard to handle in the winter. I am usually applying creams and lotions several times a day to keep it under control.
I am definately a child of the sun, so for me Spring and Summer are the nicest seasons
I love to see the trees and flowers start to bud again in the Spring, I love to see the freshness of the flowers as they come out and the birds singing so loud in a morning, it is great..the only downside is that we do have a fair bit of rain, although I suspect nowhere near the mount that the rest of the world thinks we have.
I love the summer with nice long days and all the better if we get plenty of sunshine. Our tempertaures are not normally too hot, 30 degrees is considered to be pretty warm here
The autumn is beautiful and bery colourful but for me is slightly tinged with sadness becuase winter is once again on it's way.
The one thing I would say is that our weather system can change very quickly which makes it diffciult to forecast and may also account for the reason the British seem to be obsessed with the weather. Last week for exmple the wind chill factors were -6 and 7 in the day and perhaps -2 and 3 in reality. Next week temperatures will be up to about 10 degrees.
Within an hour in April, you can experience, rain, snow and sunshine!

lol ... My husband and I share something in common. Canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, and carriage driving we like - team sports we don't like. The truth is that we dislike all prima dona team sports and never follow them on radio or in TV. We think that all those who are into them need their heads examined ... lol (not really) So if you hear that all Canadians love hockey and football, then rest assured that this isn't the case.

I love Autumn. I love walking through fallen leaves and kicking them into the air like I did when I was a child. Hyde Park in London is a great place to be in Autumn. So is Central Park, New York.

I also love summer, I love sunset when it's still very warm but not hot and sticky.

I live in London, UK so we do not get much of a summer, we get a lot of rain and grey skies. As 'Chrissymarie321' said we can experience rain, snow and sunshine in one day, I believe that happened last week. It was quite bright all morning, then we had snow and rain.

I plan on moving abroad to a sunnier climate sometime this year, somewhere quite tropical. Two of my close friends have just moved to Australia where it seems like summer all year round and Miami.

Norfolk UK, we are still in the midst of a very long harsh winter and longing for spring.

While I love the promise a good spring brings, a nice warm summer has to be my favourite, sunny days out on the stall can't be beaten. At this time of year it's the worst job but by summer people start to envy us market traders from their stuffy offices.

    I live in Greece

Only been here 13 months, but so far: last spring was mild and full of flowers, summer very hot and dry, autumn didn't really seem to stop by, winter started mild, then got very wet and windy and is now relatively (and unusually) cold.

There's something to be said for all the seasons, and I like the changes they signal. I'd hate to live somewhere that was always the same (does it exist?).

I don't like prolonged wet weather or lots of wind (an ex contact lens wearer with a low tear count, so my eyes get dry and gritty), but I'm happy with snow, sun and thunderstorms. We live opposite mountains, so can see the snow, but not actually play in it.

    Where do you live?
I am bicoastal--I live in San Francisco about 40% of the time and in Boston the other 60% (approx).

What are the seasons like where you live?
In San Francisco, the winters are usually more overcast and rainy, the summers are usually foggy and chilly, the fall is generally the most beautiful season--warm and sunny. There is no real spring in San Francisco. The wintry rain kind of turns into the summer chill and fog--but at all times of the year, there are absolutely beautiful days.

In Massachusetts, there are four very distinct seasons: Lovely falls with temperatures around 55 - 70 with its breathtakingly beautiful foliage, gorgeous springs with the budding trees and flowers and temperatures similar to fall, hot and humid summers with lush greenery, and cold and snowy winters.

    What's your favorite season?
    In San Francisco, the fall
    In Massachusetts, spring and fall

What do you like most about your favorite season?
I love the rebirth of living things in the spring. And I love weather where it is warm enough to walk outside without a jacket.

I'm not crazy about really hot weather or really cold weather.
    1. timethief
      @mtyler
I have experienced San Francisco in both summer and fall and agree that summer is frequently hidden in disappointing fog banks but fall is great there. I've never visited Massachusetts so thanks for describing the spring and fall there. You have appeased my curiosity.

And I love weather where it is warm enough to walk outside without a jacket.

I feel the same way too.
  36. rmaxwell142
I live in Boise, Idaho and there are very distinct seasons here. It gets hot in the summer and in the winter, it's cold and snowy. My favorite season is autumn though because temperatures are mild, and I love the different colors.
    1. timethief
      @maxwell142
The colours of fall are wonderful and to tell you the truth they are my favorite colours of all. I'm not a either a primary colour lover or a pastel lover. I love autumn shades.

    # Where do you live?
Until March 28th, I live in El Paso, Texas, but will be relocating to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina after that date.Which I can't wait to have a real Fall Season. We are military and they put you where you are needed.

    # What are the seasons like where you live?
Here in El Paso,Tx, I don't like the seasons here. It's too dry, not enough rain, no green grass, no real trees.

    # What's your favorite season?
The Autumn. Some of us call it Fall. And the latter name is believed to have originated not because of the fall of leaves from the trees, but because it is the season when the sun falls below the equator to spring back up again six months later. I also like that we get longer day light.("Spring forward, Fall Back")

    # What do you like most about your favorite season?
I like most about Autumn are the smells it brings, Pumpkin pies, apple cider, pine trees, My home made candle smells. The colorful leaves that begin to fall off the trees to die and to bring new life in the Spring. The leaves fall and the wind blows.
My favorite holiday is Halloween and it falls in the Autumn season. I love to walk through a park or mountains in the Fall season. Or cuddle up on the porch in a warm blanket with a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate, in the early hours during the fall season and just listen to nature. There is a harmony in autumn. If you listen, you will hear the wind rising, and the air wild with leaves.
    Autumn symbolizes, maturity and wisdom
    1. timethief
      @armywife
Well, I can tell you aren't singing the praises of the El Paso weather. It sounds very hot and very parched.

I ♥ the autumn description and the symbolism that you shared in your last a paragraph. Thanks so much for taking the time to post to this thread. [She crosses El Paso of her list]
    2. armywife65
@TT--Yes El Paso is crossed off my list most definitely. I hope I never have to live here again. El Paso, Tx has to be the most dirtiest place I have ever heard of or lived in. I will write about North Carolina when I get there and experience the beauty that I hear about.
My friend told me that statement about the Autumn and I never forgot it. Not sure where she heard it or if she wrote it. I love the sound of it. I also got it written on a plaque on my wall.
      Thank you

I live in upstate NY. We have 4 very defined seasons. I also prefer late summer, early fall. We have terrific farm stands that sell not only fresh fruits and veggies but also cider donuts, ice cream, etc.

Late autumn bums me out though because I know we will be headed for cold cold and more cold!
    1. timethief
      @fearless21
Where I live we have many roadside stands as you describe and in harvest season there is such an abundance of food that it's a delight. It takes a lot of time and energy to preserve, dehydrate, freeze, and process it all but the taste and quality are well worth the effort. By the time the frost is on the pumpkins I'm ready to head south but alas I can't afford to.
  39. Isys3000
I am a spring and fall lover. They are two different season with the same purpose as life itself. Spring/Fall (birth/death), beginning/ending. Spring and Fall also works vice versa ending brings rebirth and beginning brings passing.
  40. candlemamma
Summer is my favorite. Colorful flowers...I need to sweat off extra pounds in the summer. It does get humid were I live. Humidity is a bummer.

Fall is my next favorite. I love the fall colors. Leaves turning different colors. I love to watch my grandchildren partcipate in Halloween events.

Spring is okay but ugly for colors. Brown earth. Dirty melted snow. Trees look so dreery and bare.

Winter is blah to me. I don't like the cold weather...driving on icy roads...Cold weather chills me to the bone. I enjoy too much food in the winter. My grandchildren's smiles and excitement at Christmas time makes Christmas fun for me in the winter.

My grandchildren's smiles are worth putting up with the hastle of all seasons.
  41. MadMadMargo
Living here in central Arizona can be brutal during the summer months, everyone hibernates in their air-conditioned homes. Summer lasts approximately 6 months where temperatures average 105 degrees.

I love the winters here, the average temperature is 70 degrees. Rarely do we experience freezing temperatures or snow.

I do, however, miss experiencing all 4 seasons.
  42. maxisangry
I like seasons like everybody else, but I prefer not to call them Winter, Summer, Fall, and Spring.

I like terms like Rainy Season or Dry Season. I also like Tired Season and Jumpy Season, Neverending Season and Dopy Season.

    Also, I'm retarded.

    Autumn

    * What do you like most about your favorite season?
I like the leaves falling off the trees as they change colour and I like the temperature not too cold and not too warm for me and I get to see lots of wildlife like Squirrels, foxes and the like that I tend not to see any other time Its also a time when i feel most happy (besides when Im with family in bulgaria)

    Hey timefhief,

I live in blacklisted Las Vegas. Our seasons are the same, except summer. We hit 120 degrees.

I like them all, but I like them better when I'm traveling. The new life in spring, the freshness of summer, the leaves in the fall, and the snow in winter. But here, well, we don't have much of that.
    1. timethief
      Hi Rich,
Well I've been to Vegas and it was horribly hot and dry. The only redeeming feature was the contrast between the heat there and the below zero weather I left behind.
    2. Rich
Yep. It's nice to visit, but ... haha. The desert is beautiful, but not as much everyday.
  49. Stillthinking
I live in Chicago and we have four seasons:

Long, Cold, Harsh Winter: It snows a lot. I mean, a lot! We had record snowfalls last year and again this year. It's dark. The wind is wet and freezing coming off the Lake. Temperatures are generally in the teens or if we're really unfortunate, below zero. Chicago has one of the harshest winters in the country. Chicagoans know how to deal with the frigid, constant winds, sub-freezing temps. Obama spoke for all of us when DC called a snow day after just an inch of snow. That would have never happened in Chicago. Our snow days come after three days of continuous, driving, wet, snow and sub-zero temps. Ok, I think you get the idea. It's really cold here.

Short Spring doesn't actually make an appearance until late April. It's still dark and wet. Lots and lots of rain. No such thing as green Spring day here. It's all gray and is still very cold.

Short Summer: Summer sneaks up on you in Chicago. Every year, the city of Chicago (tanks to Da Mayor Daley)spends millions on flowers and landscaping. So, come July, suddenly the entire city is in bloom. It's expensive, but very pretty! Its also hot, hot, hot and humid. +90's are not uncommon. Lot's of sun which is perfect for afternoons on Lake Michigan or strolling the city. The city is bursting with great alfresco dining during the summer. Summer is short here, so we really soak it in while we can. Great beaches, huge blue lake dotted with thousands of sailboats, pretty parks. Chicago is so beautiful in the summer, you can almost forget the misery of November through May. In the summer, Chicago just glows. Literally. At night, the most gorgeous skyline in the country just stretches on and on.

Autumn: Starts in late September. We usually get one big frost, and one warm up just before Halloween. We always get freezing rain on Halloween. Beautiful season with the changing of the leaves. Really cold weather usually sets in for good in November.

I think you can guess which season is my favorite. (looks out window at gray mucky snow and sighs)

2.Summer: Humid and hot... did I mention humid?
Fall: Nice, crisp, cool. The sky is really blue
Winter: COld, very very cold and snowy
Spring: Wet, rainy, flowers start to bloom

This is what it tends o be like, but in New England we always say "If you don't liek the weather wait another five minutes"

I love both spring and fall.
With spring, you know that everything is starting to wake up. Flowers start to bloom and come to life. Tulips are one of my favorite flowers, and rhubarb starts in around this season.
Fall itself is just so beautiful. It has its own smell and the sky is a bright and rich blue. I especially love to go to thebeach in the fall and just watch, because nobody is every really crowding up the place. They never realize how beautiful it really is at this time.

I live in Toronto, Canada. Cold and snowy winters; hot and humid summers. It's a great city except for the climate thing. There are about 10 days a year when I enjoy the weather. They usually fall in the spring and fall, but there is no guarantee of that. Did I mention that I'm naturally grumpy?
    1. timethief
      @joel
I've experienced the muggy weather there in summer and it was even worse in Ottawa. I wonder every day of my life why people think either Toronto or Ottawa are great places to live. I live in Brisbane on the east coast of Australia.

    2) What are the seasons like where you live?

They go from one extreme to another in a relatively short space of time... to the point where it feels like it was a sweltering hot summer only yesterday and today I'm having to adjust to the coolness of autumn. It's weird.

    3) What's your favorite season?

    Autumn is my favourite season.

    4) What do you like most about your favorite season?

There's something beautiful about the bright oranges and rich browns of autumn leaves and something compelling about the nakedness of the trees, their trunks a muted black in the cooling rain. It suits my melancholy nature.

My favorite season is autumn, because of the foliage. I live in Atlanta. We have beautiful autumn and spring weather [highs in the 50's to 70's]. Winter is usually very mild, with highs in the 45-60 range most days. It rarely ever snows, and when it does it melts within a day. I never, ever shovel snow. After traveling to Siberia to adopt my children and experiencing real snow and cold, I am eternally grateful I live in Atlanta!

Summer it can be hot and humid, but most people stay indoors a lot. My kids stay by the pool on really hot days. You do your errands in the cool mornings and stay indoors in the afternoons, if possible.
    1. timethief

    Where do you live?

    South of England.

What are the seasons like where you live?
Warm/hot summer, mild autumn and winter and beautiful warm spring that comes quite early.

    What's your favorite season?
    Spring and early autumn.

What do you like most about your favorite season?
I love spring because everything comes back to live and looks stunning. I love new leaves that look like a green mist, I love crocuses and daffodils, sunshine and warm wind. And I was born in May.
I love september because it's the most beautiful time in autumn. Everything turns gold and we don't get many rains, but plenty of sunshine. It's still very warm and great for long walks in a park. It's dreamy.

I understand that you want my fave season, but to me it is hard to choose as I think they're all good with their significant differences. # Where do you live?
    Florida.

    # What are the seasons like where you live?

Winter is the best time of year. The weather's not too cold, nor too hot. It's usually windy with clear skies.

Spring is fire season, due to increased temperatures and having gone several months without rain.

Summer is like being trapped in a rice steamer. It rains nearly every day, lightning litters the sky, floodwater covers the landscape. If your AC goes out, you could actually die from heat stroke.

Fall is wet and cool. Lightning is still a problem, as is the occasional hurricane, but it's not nearly as hot as summer.

The cool weather, being able to actually go outside without sweating or being swamped with mosquitoes, and a consistent power supply that isn't interrupted by lightning strikes.

@timethief I live in New Delhi, the capital of India.

In the winter, Delhi is a different city to the dun-coloured, dust-ridden one it is in the summer. You wake up to an intensely cold morning, and despite having gotten a good nine hours of sleep, it feels like you just went to bed. You burrow into your many layers of thick razais (quilts) some more, wanting to snatch yet another thirty nine winks. It's gray outside and so foggy you can barely see the ship building which in summer is like the lighthouse marker to your home. You can see the fluffy angora fog sitting on its haunches on your terrace as you step out of your warm bedroom. You shiver, wrap the shawl around you one more fold and ask for more hot coffee, its steam mingling with the steam issuing from your mouth.

Thank you so much for sharing that very eloquent and evocative description. I appreciate it very much.

I use to be a summer person but as I get older i have less tolerance for the heat and I becoming a spring. MI spring are unpredictable but they have everything I love in moderation so I'm grateful.

Greetings. Spring is a wonderful season to be sure. It's interesting that we are opposites. As I age I have far less tolerance for the cold.

Spring time because that's the time I start getting back into shape. I don't go to a gym and I love jogging, but I have to wait till it's warm enough to slip my jogging shoes on. I tried it a couple of times in winter, but I almost got a cold.

I'm always so happy to see spring and to get outside more myself so I know where you are coming from. Thanks for posting.

I live in the South, United States.

Winters are mild, summers are hot. Spring is short-lived and fall is refreshing.

My favorite season is spring, without a doubt. I only wish it wasn't so fleeting.

I love the sunshine and pleasant temperatures of spring, and watching the trees come back to life with new buds. And all the flowers that begin to bloom; the dogwoods, the violets, the Grancy Greybeards, etc.

We have had the rainiest, stormiest spring this year, however.

Another spring lover and I don't doubt why after that wonderful description. Our spring was much more wet and cool that what we usually get but summer's almost here now so it's easy to forget that. Thanks for participating.

I'm a fair weather person. I like spring or fall. Not too hot, not too cold. Just like goldilocks! I live in Central Pennsylvania.

Thanks for sharing your "goldilocks" season preferences. You made me chuckle.

I live during Spring, Fall and Winter in Midtown, Atlanta, Ga and then spend my summer near Seattle, WA (Juanita to be exact.) This is ALMOST the best of all worlds, both Spring in Atlanta and Summer in Seattle are beautiful in their own way, and Autumn evenings in the South also have their charm, although Atlanta winters are actually (oddly enough) colder then Seattle ones and considerably windier and with more disturbing skies.

Thanks for sharing the contrast between the two locations and your preferences too.

arrgh.. if I were to say the first season of F.R.I.E.N.D.S , it would no longer seem original, eh?

      G'evening..
answering your question though, where I live, it is hot and humid all through the year except for around 6 weeks of cooler climate.. those 6 weeks are all I look forward to, all through the year

Here in New York, we have relatively cold winters, hot summers, coolish falls, and springs that range from cool to warm. My favorite season is spring, because of the 'coming alive' aspect (and, okay, baseball :D). Unfortunately, as a poster above mentioned, we really haven't had a spring this year-- it's been unseasonably cool.

Hello there. It's sounds like your spring was just as disappointing as ours was this year. Let's hope the next one will be a pleasant one. We have fawns and little wild turkeys, quail, squirrels, and all kinds of baby song birds happening everywhere. The tree frogs have begun to sing and at night the wetland frogs are a lullaby chorus. My deck is looking really great and the earliest hanging fuschias are just beginning to bloom. I'm ♥ ing it!

We live in Pennsylvania where things are lush and green now. Summer is my favorite season. Love building the flower gardens and added a decorative fountain this year. It lights up so I can find my way in the dark! Hubby is from Canada. Beautiful country but we both dislike the cold, so winter is our time to travel. The Keys next March. No more SAD for me!

    Summer.
Having holidays in Bali Beach, Indonesia or Ibiza, Spain seems great.

Autumn. Love it. Crisp, colours, Christmas coming, birthday time, not too cold, not much rain. All good. It is the only season in Ireland that actually does what it is supposed to do!
