Hi, I'm new to blogging and doing a 'Traffic Generation Challenge' to drive traffic to my brand new blog at www.santqiu.com

I'm starting from literally zero traffic and I'm looking for ways to drive traffic to the blog.

Can you share with me your top 3 'unique' traffic generation strategies. I'm talking about really the best ones. And for targeted traffic.

I'm already going to do the 'usual' ones like promoting rss feeds, article marketing, visiting relevant blogs and forums.

If you have other 'non-conventional' ways share them here. And share your stats after you implement your strategies.

If I use them I'll credit you (and link to your blog) in my blog. I think others here will also learn tremendously from you.

Thanks in advance!

    1) Synchronized stop lights allow the best flow for traffic.

    2) The right turn on a red light is a good option.

    3) If the above two examples don't work, just close your eyes and step on the gas.

    - Offer something extra like tools and plugins

    - Say something controversial

    - Give a really really good tip with a nice headline.
  3. bsilvia
    - offer something extra/free like PS & Illustrator brushes...
    - monthly contests (graphics design giveaways)
    - supporting massive community actions (blogaction day, pink for October etc)

    mikster, huh? I'm lost.

nusuni, sounds good though saying something controversial just to get traffic might back fire (though it can work)

bsilvia, I'm not too technically competent, but I agree giving great value is a great way to get traffic. In fact I'll be giving away some great stuffs soon. Thanks for your ideas!

StumbleUpon, but only if you do the following:
    1. Add lots of friends who each have lots of friends, reviews, and pages. Review them, thumb them up, and even send them a non-advertising message when you catch them online. They'll add you as a friend and this will help for step three.
    2. Stumble a lot. Get about 1000 pages, at least.
    3. Add your own posts every 10 or so stumbles.
    4. Optionally, you can send your posts to your SU friends (assuming they won't treat it as spam).

This actually works, by the way.

    Post good content.

Tell people you've posted good content.

Post comments on other people good content.

what dane said is pretty much it

    write stuff worth reading

participate in online communities like this one to get your name and site in front of people

read and comment on quality writing in other blogs to get your name and site in front of people

all of which is hard work. but it does work.

    1) Add a noninvasive search engine
    2) Content that other people can relate to, but that's true to you
    3) Make sure you meta-tag all your posts!
    4) Submit your blog in many search engines
    5) Advertise your blog to your friends or on myspace (hey we all have one)

    Hope this helps!

    write content

write content that i know about

write content that i know about that other people don't really know much about but are pretending they know about

I guess the conclusion so far is still 'content is king'.

As I'm doing my Traffic Generation Challenge" to drive traffic to my brand new blog, I'll be implementing a few strategies based on great content in the next few days. However, I'll be doing a bit of a twist (NOT SPAM!) and I'll how far it can go.

So far in about 10 days my Alexa ranking has gone down from over 2,000,000 to just over 900,000. So it's interesting.

    1) Write content that someone other than your mom would compliment you on
    2) Make friends online (preferably other bloggers so you can help each other cross-promote -- "Mi subscribers es su subscribers!")
    3) Write content that your new online friends would enjoy or appreciate (they are your biggest online advocates).

I am totally new to this realm and I have found that making friends of other bloggers has many benefits:

    1) You can bounce ideas and insights off one another.
    2) You have a guaranteed audience who will in turn pass it along to others.
    3) You have a rotation of blogs that you can enjoy, whose posts may help inspire post ideas of your own.
    4) You have a bunch of comrades who understand and can accept the fact that it's Friday night and you're sitting in front of your computer writing.

    Hope that helps!

Make upbeat posts with a lot of pictures in a list format (e.g. 100 weird ways to make $$ with your site) and then stumble the hell out of them
