I started a blog almost 2 weeks ago and, when I search for my blog in google or technorati using either the blog title or phrases from the blog, nothing turns up. Does it take more time for the search engines to recognize a blog? I have already registered in blogcatalog and think I've sucessfully submitted the blog to google. Am I missing something or do I just have to wait?

Two weeks is far too soon to start appearing in the search engines with any appreciable ranking. Google can take weeks (or longer) to start indexing your site.

The best way for search engines to find your site is through backlinks, you can manually submit your site to Google/Yahoo etc... but this does not guarantee you'll be indexed, do a few link exchanges, write some articles or drop some comments. When the search spiders find you via a link it significantly increases your chances of being found.

Search for, site:yourblog.com and see if it's been listed on google or not? if it's listed, then it means the keywords you're searching is not enough for your blog to be appear on the first page of google.

Try to add more content and sign up for webmaster tools and submit your site,

    Google: google.com/webmasters/tools/
    yahoo: siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/
    live: webmaster.live.com/

It definitely needs some time to get indexed!
