Let’s talk about reading to very young children. When do you read to your baby? Do you use different voices for different characters? What books does your baby seem to like best? Do you encourage your baby when he/she makes faces, sounds or moves his/her body in response to the book? Do you hold your child while you read to him or her?

I started reading to my daughter when she was in the womb. Although I didn’t do the funny voices then either! I was always taught, that unless you would be a little embarrassed if another adult walks in the room....you aren’t getting involved enough in reading! But we really began reading when she was born- every day, at least twice a day- and she would listen... she was extremely observant. Now, she absolutely LOVES reading- she will bring a book, and want to sit in your lap and go through it. She'll point out different things and try to say what they are. I love reading to my daughter, and if I gave in she’d never have me stop! She grew up with books and stories and still enjoy them so much. I hope this interest continues!
