I hate it too, and it seems particularly prevalent online, although that could be because I only know about 3 or 4 native English speakers in the offline world, none of whom would even know what it means far less use it. I've always thought it means "Duh, I screwed up again"

"My bad" is an admission of guilt or mistake, usually for relatively minor situations. It tends to clean the slate and clear the air. It's a soft way of saying, "I am sorry."
Using the term signals a social class and attitude. For instance, my mother never would say, "my bad," and I imagine would consider it "low brow" or "low class". My mother also attaches relatively heavy significance to "I am sorry."
At work, I think I have heard it said, and maybe even said myself, "this one is my bad," when we are owning up to mistakes. My perception is there is a level of score keeping that takes place without being discussed. I know I try to keep my record as free of negatives as possible. In that realm, I know that "my bad" is less significant than "I am sorry." That said, I think it's sad that we all have to be so careful about admitting our mistakes, because we would do better work if we were more critical of ourselves. The problem becomes that our criticism is used against us in this world. It's sad. I would like to see us being better friends to one another in this world. -
They are saying, "Hey, I am a retard and I cannot speak right". I hate that saying as much as I hate OMG. I just want to pepper spray the girls that say it.

I've never really been into "trendy" expressions. To me, it signals a lack of imagination when someone spouts off an overly used expression. I usually turn away from said person and silently ponder the most painful way to kill them.
Anyway..... "HAVE A NICE DAY" everyone and "TAKE CARE"
HEHE HEHEHE HEHHHEH HEHEHEHH..... and so on -
When I was in school, "my bad" was actually "my bag". It meant that they were holding the bag, that they got caught and it was their fault. It made a lot more sense, then, but it quickly evolved into the more-prevalent "bad". It isn't an expression of regret or remorse but the acknowledgment of an error or poor behavior on which you have been called.
