   It depends on what you blog about. Like I am blogging about mobile phones, so I try to give some free mobile applications and games for my blog readers and they love it.
   
   Try to find out what free items you can give your readers, whatever it is, it must be related to your Blog topic.
   
   And the idea of getting good amount of traffic by offering free downloads is true but it is not a must. You see in site/blogs that take about SEO, Health, Fashion etc not always have much item to give as download because their articles themselves are quality free item for readers.
