Soon - probably within the next couple of months up to the next couple of years, I am going to win a significant sum of money via a court case - it's a no brainer, I will win, just a matter of time.
I plan on getting an RV - and traveling around the United States to find a place that I want to live.
motorhomesoftexas.com/coachrv/thor/2009--mandalay--43--MT3611#
Is the RV I'm looking at - as far as the style.
Anyhow...
I want to build a Ranch house 5 rooms, 4/5 bathrooms. Indoor Gym/Game Room with 2 lane bowling alley - Indoor Pool with Solarium/sliding roof. Jacuzzi, Greenhouse with indoor waterfall, on an acre of land that I can put up a 10 foot fence around.
I want to live on or VERY NEAR a lake or river - that can be fished, and the fish eaten.
I have to live close enough to a hospital that it can be within 30 minutes drive... But I want to live close enough to people that if I screamed they could hear me - or if our alarms went off they could be heard...
BUT FAR ENOUGH WAY FROM EVERYONE that they cannot see inside my house - and I can sunbathe nude.
I don't like EXTREME HEAT nor EXTREME COLD... I like the 4 seasons. I like TREES - but I'm highly allergic to COTTONWOOD - so anywhere that has Cottonwood is OUT. AND any desert is out.
I don't like HIGH crime areas - so major cities is bad - but I don't mind being able to drive to a major city in a couple of hours.
Yeah - these are DREAMS right now...
But this is what I want.
And I think... I'm pretty sure that I can make it happen.
I just haven't found any place that describes the close - yet far enough away from anyone - feeling.
I don't want PEEPING neighbors - because I play band (eg. Loud dischordant music) - I don't want to disturb anyone either. But I'd like to be able to scream and be heard --- etc. For Safety.
So...
If you have ANY thoughts about locations --- I might roll through there to see if I like it when I actually go on my trip.
(WHICH - I TRULY HOPE WILL BE SOON - BUT COULD BE A YEAR OR TWO - No matter - the end result will be worth it - because CORRUPTION WILL BE EXPOSED.)
So - anyone have just such a magical place in mind?

LOL - ok - any particular place in Tahoe?
Gambling places would be not so good --- I might not hold on to my money for too long.
LOL! -
OK and your town is????????????????????????????/
I should probably know this - LMAO _ I did call you...
LOL - yeah - but even I could not afford the lake houses on Tahoe... -
Yah - I love my RV plans... I am going to have to learn to drive that behemoth... LMAO!
But - I want to have a HOUSE. One that I create - one that I build one that I "FEEL"...
So I have to be able to have a place to live in.
Which is why I am totally open to suggestions. -

Oh Sammy boy --- That would be a major downfall for me.
I am - at the core - a gambler.
I would LIVE at a SlotMachine for 5 years - and be broke...
Of course - I'd have a lot of fun living at that ONE slot machine. LOL!
But I would be broke.
So GAMBLING places are not places I want to live near --- I can go visit them - LOL - but not live near them
Besides Vegas is desert.
I cannot do HOT HOT HOT.

OK Portland Marked on the Map
Leseee:
Tahoe
Grants Pass
Cave Junction
Salt Lake City
Portland
Mt Hood
Big Bear
Kansas...
Colorado Springs
Any more?
(keeping Atlantic City, Vegas and Reno off the map... LOL)
Ooooh Tell me about Colorado Springs.
I visited there once - and I truly liked the area. It was beautiful.
Anyone actually been there for an extended stay?
What are the seasons like? -
Shuttercraft has the right idea...Oregon...but the wrong spot. Grants Pass is not especially pretty and it's too close to California and lacks a lot of amenities.
Go further north on I-5. When you get to Salem, turn right on Hwy22 and drive a while. When you get to Stayton/Sublimity, take the exit. You are now within easy driving distance from Salem (20 miles) for shopping and medical attention. You are about an hour south of Portland for "big city" amenities (and medical care). You are also within easy reach of Green Peter Reservoir (turn right and drive down to Sweet Home), Detroit Lake (keep going up Hwy 22) and Silver Falls State Park (10 waterfalls in a beautifully wooded park, the largest in the Oregon State Park system). Just turn left and go through Sublimity, then turn right at the fertilizer plant (hwy 214). That road will take you into the park and if you just keep driving, you will end up in Silverton, a town my husband calls "postcard perfect small town America."
Please wave to my Dad as you pass his farm on your way to the park... -
Puts Silverton on the map...
Tahoe
Grants Pass
Cave Junction
Salt Lake City
Portland
Mt Hood
Big Bear
Kansas...
Colorado Springs
Silverton
OK - I have a year - or whatever I want to do this drive in...
So I can do a LOT of places.
Keep coming with ideas...
And Violet that sounds beautiful. I could probably do an hour from Portland easily. Are there any Cottonwood Trees in that area?
Seriously - I have to have an EPI pen at hand when they bloom - and have to have major medicines on board to just breathe... I've gone through all the allergy stuff - even tried honey from the areas - just nothing has worked.-
Ummm...what kind of cottonwood (when it comes to allergies, the specific variety can be very important). Cottonwoods are part of the Aspen and Poplar family and there are four species of cottonwood that grow in Oregon. They are all "wet" trees...they live along stream banks and lake edges. Black cottonwood, for example, grows in the wet areas from Washington to California.
If cottonwood is a serious problem for you, I suggest you look at desert areas and forget living near fresh water because where there's water and cool weather, you are going to find cottonwood and its cousins, poplar and aspen.
Or, lay in a stock of Epi pens (or get allergy desensitization shots) and come to the Willamette Valley. It is the only place I would consider living if I were to come back to the States. Oh...did I tell you...there's no sales tax in Oregon?
-
-
Well - perhaps Canada... But it would be hard to up and move to another country...
I mean - I've never thought about it - but WHERE COULD I BE SAFE - and close to medical care?
Please - feel free to share your favorite spot - and I have quite some time to research the area - research the crime rates, medical facilities and the economy, etc.
And if you give me an idea - I'll look it up. -
I have Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy... Caused after and because of chemotherapy - But I'm doing alright now.
It's just that I will need medication for the rest of my life. Some days more so than others *GRIN*-
nice to hear that you're doing alright. don't worry too much about having to take lifelong medications. at least you wouldn't take medications and get pricked by 2 big needles twice a week for the rest of your life.
I guess you ought to have lots of fresh air and open spaces, with medical care nearby, of course.

Ithaca, NY-voted the third safest, and the most progressive, small town in America. The Berkeley of the East. Extremely funky, tolerant and liberal. Home of two major colleges, one Ivy league, so there's lots of music, art and culture. Waterfalls, gorges, the Finger lakes, more wildflowers in the summer than anywhere in the world. But winters can be gray and a little dreary.
-
Weather starts going downhill around Halloween and can stay kind of gloomy through April, depending on the year. The last few winters, probably because of global warming, have been much milder-less snow and warmer temps, but still a lot of gray. But the quality of life here is very, very good, and the natural beauty is colossal. It's an easy place to live, with always a lot to do. Culturally, it's kind of a microcosm of New York City, without the congestion and the crime. I'm sure we have more massage therapists, chiropractors, alternative healers per person than anywhere in America.
-
-
Adding Ithaca - anything with funky stuff - progressive ideas and safe sounds good to me... How long are the winters?
Tahoe
Grants Pass
Cave Junction
Salt Lake City
Portland
Mt Hood
Big Bear
Kansas...
Colorado Springs
Silverton
Ithaca
More?-
Alco - I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Ireland - and England and Scotland.
I want to touch and feel all the old crumbly castles. LOL!
We might just do that as a vacation - we want to go to Amsterdam too!
But for now - it's just choosing where we want to live.
It's all a dream right now - but it will become a reality - and I'm one of those SUPER DREAMER PLANNERS... I start making plans - and then change my mind about 10 times - then I write it all down - and then write it down again...
And then I follow close to my plans - but not exactly... LOL!
But this is the plan right now:
Spend about a year looking for the "RIGHT" place.
I don't want to spend all of my money in one place - and I don't want to go broke in one spot - so everything is kinda important - otherwise I'd just plan on dumping a million on a house in Malibu... LOL!
Anyhow - I want to be happy where I live.
But --- at the same time - I want to be able to grow veggies and fruits...
Sigh - I just want too darned much.

West Virginia has all 4 seasons. I think it's pretty warm in WV but I'm a native Clevelander. It can get hot in summer but there are a lot of trees to hide under. Fall is gorgeous images.google.com/images?hl=en&rlz=1T4GPCK_enUS327US327&um=1&sa=1&q=WV+fall...
Did you know WV has bald eagles?-
Kanawha county is close enough to malls yet it's esy to find the country here as well. We have bald eagles, deer, wild rabbits even outside my own door and I live in Kanawha counties main city Charleston. If you live in Roane county not much population at all. If you decide to move here you should probably talk to someone first. Some areas have high racism. Some aren't so bad but some are just out there.

No healthcare is not really free of charge. All of us who are above the poverty line pay into the healthcare plan. Only those who are below the poverty line can claim healthcare is free.
Moreover, anyone who has the income level to be able to build the extravagant "estate" that wagerwitch proposes to build will not qualify as a welfare case.
And locating a jurisdiction where one can build all that on a puny single acre of land will not be easy. Even rural areas have building codes and require permits.
Take a look at all the freshwater water demands in her proposal in an estate for 1 person (single family dwelling). Where do you know of that has such an abundant supply of freshwater that the local governments allow them to drill private wells to provide for all that water consumption? Where is it that a building inspector and health inspector would give approval for the number of bathrooms and size of septic tanks and systems required for what she proposes? Alternatively, where do you know of that has a municipal water supply and sewage treatment system to pipe into from a rural area that's free of charge? -
Where I live there are such "estates" but they are not situated on puny one acre lots. In fact, our bylaws, building codes and building regulations, and health regulations are written to prevent the over development of small lots, and pollution that would arise from that kind of lot coverage, excessive water consumption for frivolous uses (depletion of the aquifers shared by neighbors) and expulsion of sewage effluent into the environment.
Here we legislate the lot coverage (exactly how much surface can be covered by man made structures and how much of the natural landscape trees, underbrush, etc. must not be removed), and there's no way what wagerwitch proposes could be achieved on a small lot. Also suffice to say that the taxes on the large land holdings that would allow for what she proposes are very high and getting higher every day.
Why do we have such tough legislation and regulations? Because way back when wealthy folks from America and other places would move here to our small and beautiful islands and wantonly destroy them. They would eliminate all the natural growth, and landscape with ware sucking ornamental European plants. Then they would build mansions with multiple bathrooms, hot tubs, swimming pools. They would suck enormous amounts of water out of the only sources of freshwater (shared aquifers) for, and then expel all the waste water containing pool chemicals, herbicides and pesticides, and sewage into the watershed which in turn leaching into the freshwater aquifers. Consequently, their "poor" neighbors had either dry wells or polluted wells.
The natural scenic landscape views they once had were annihilated and the natural course of water seepage into the soil (water recharge to the aquifers) was diverted by the expanses of cement driveways parking lots, tennis courts, etc. that their rich neighbors built.
All that changed drastically when politically and environmentally astute people like myself moved in and the provincial government legislated the creation the first land trust in North America by way of provincial statute. -
ROFLMAO - TT - estate? (dreaming here.... estate... estate.... hmmmm not a bad sound...)
Nah- just going to get a tidy sum one way or another.
Enough to have a house, not have to work again - and have a few extras... NOT ENOUGH to buy a jet plane tho. LOL!
OK - you're right about the acre thingie... I'll prolly have to buy a couple of acres. Sigh.. I just don't want neighbors peering in my house - or pool area.
5 rooms is a lot?
I have always lived in 4 or 5 bedroom houses. To me that's not a lot. -
Yikes TT....
It AIN'T that big of a house...
Seriously - even if I were to win 20 million dollars - I wouldn't build a mansion.
I have family that visits - and a child - plus me and the hubby.
I also have a band that comes to stay.
I want an ART/Kiln Room and a game room and a study/office...
Hence the 4 to 5 bedrooms.
I'd like every bedroom to have a bathroom...
And I'd like a bathroom for the game room and a restroom for the livingroom area for visiting guests.
It's common in my family to have a formal living and formal dining room. I have noticed that since living in Alaska, that not everyone has a formal living room. I'm cool with not having one.
But all those water sources would NOT be in use every day - at full consumption. I'm no party animal - nor could I handle having people in my house every day of the year.
The pool - hmmmmm - that might take water sources - but at the same time - I don't intend on keeping it outside - so that it can be dirtied so often.
The waterfall/pond in the greenhouse would be a recylclable water fountain - because it would have some sort of fish in it.
The jacuzzi - pure luxury.
LOL!
But seriously - wow - You make it sound like wanting those types of things are awful - in my own humble opinion - I don't intend to destroy... Just to maintain my own property carefully.
Not waste - and I certainly don't use more than my share - nor would I empty my waste into any place anyone else wouldn't properly place their waste.
I want the greenhouse so that I can grow my own organic vegetables - because I believe what we get from the stores have been changed... etc.
I'm a lot more eco friendly than you would assume.
But - I never did think about water usage at the pool level being a problem.
I've already thought about plans for solar power - as much as possible for the pool/jacuzzi and possibly the house - but the cost is a lot more than I think I'll be able to afford.
Taxes should be ok - if I keep the cost of the house low.
We're not talking MARBLE hallways or cherry wood stairs... We're talking a no-nonsense, 5 star rated home - with a couple extra things.
-
-
Holy cow that's a lot of bedrooms and bathrooms.
*mentally maps out house*
That's going to cost you a fortune to build from scratch. So here's hoping you win financial independence from your court case. -

we have been looking in to RV's too. but we have a family of five. We found out the fith wheeler from cyclone are very nice. and the good thing is you can get a truck and a fith wheeler for the price of a big rv and the in side of the fith wheeler is just as roomy or more so. and if you get the toytrayler ones they even have a small gerage so if you want some fun toys to drive around you can hall them in there. because if you get an rv you need to eather tow your car or find out how to rent a car because the rv can not go a lot a places and cost a lot on gas. but just a thought you may want to look into before you by one.
-
Yeah - we've been looking.
RIGHT NOW _-- WE ARE AT THE DREAMING STAGE...
There is always the possibility I'll have to stay comfortable right here - forever...
But we are fairly sure that we will be able to fulfill some of my dreams.
Like I said - it will never be enough to buy our own jet plane or anything...
We sell our current house - and find a good lot (acre - couple of acres) and we'll be able to build a nice place and live comfortably for the rest of our lives - because I'll have full retirement also.
-
-
-
Ayuh - at times AIR hurts.
I have Fibro and Neuropathy - clothes tend to feel REALLY bad at times - especially ANYTHING constricting.
Besides - all natural --- in the BUFF - isn't that like the coolest thing?
I mean seriously - bathing outside in the warm, beautiful sun and air... Ahhhh
Such relaxation...
Until you see the Neighbor's kid staring at you....
AGGGG -
Yeah, we have a teenage girl - but I think she thinks we stare at her more that she stares at us, we don't though. We just catch her looking all the time.
And then theres the old man in the wheel chair on the otherside. I think he likes boys.
Going to Rarotonga in October though

With our own private lagoon - I could soooo live there -
Rarotonga - its its own island, not far from NZ but closer to Samoa.
Im told that it's what Hawaii should be - if that makes any sense.
Plus the cool factor is that at atutaki island ( an island off raro ) you can helicopter there and stay in these little huts that are actually over the water, and if you want to swim you can just jump out the window
