Just thinking where I want to be after retirement? Any idea on where is the best place to retire? We have to consider the cost of living and the weather; I want it near a beach or lake.
I already have an idea on when is the best time for cheap airline travel.

English speaking, lots of American culture so you don't feel too much culture shock, friendly people, miles and miles and MILES of beaches, most things cost WAY less than in the US, including houses and food and medical care, first world infrastructure with regards to roads, municipal services, medical facilities, banking, an abundance of 4 and 5 star restaurants, hotels, and B&Bs...
I've been here five+ years and I LOVE it!
(oh, and I was recently at a party with about 15 other Americans who live here...executives, members of the consulate, retired military, etc...and they love it too!) -
I have one son, DIL and grandchildren in Melbourne and another son, DIL and grandchildren in Tel Aviv. So on retirement I seem to have two choices:
a] Buy a house exactly half way between the two i.e Colombo Sri Lanka or
b] Buy two studio flats, one in Melbourne and one in Tel Aviv. Both of these would have to be RIGHT ON the beach. I want to hear the surf from my bed. -

I can sit on a bench overlooking the beach...and perhaps one day, pass away while listening to the tides come in. -

I've lived in and traveled to many wonderful places, including Hawaii where I lived for quite a few years. I love that place, but it's too expensive and too isolated for me now. So I've chosen Mexico. Lived in and traveled throughout Mexico for over 2 decades, and I'm very comfortable there. Plenty of gringos if you need that community, and endless choices of retirement spots. Great food, friendly people, beautiful country, lots of fabulous beaches (I, too, like to go to sleep to the sound of the ocean). For me it's little Rocky Point (aka Puerto Penasco) on the Sea of Cortez. Only an hour's drive to the Arizona border, laid back, it's still a dusty, funky little beach town in spite of a recent boom in growth, and I like it that way. Rocky Point is not for everyone, but it's definitely for me (heck, I blog about it). It might be for you, too.
