   the width of the first blog is too .... 2005 // gone are the days of the 600x800 window viewscreen! so the second site is more user friendly.
   
   Although, the first once seems to have more modifications to it and at least looks somewhat more original than the second design.

   Putting on my graphic design hat:
   
   First One: I like the style of the first one better. However, as much as I like blue, it strikes me as a bit generic. I'm a believer in having your posts together and putting the ads and other information in sidebar(s). Wading through the verbage to read a post is annoying.
   
   Second One: The yellow is irritating. I'd prefer a pastel of the green or gray - main point is not to have those side areas pulling your eye away from your page. I like that you can scroll through the blog posts easily and that the sidebars have the information. The sidebars are fairly concise; they do not continue on endlessly with stuff.

   Just my personal opinion, but the 1st one was too business like to me ... which is great if you have a business blog, but not for a personal one.
   
   I preferred the 2nd one .. but it was too wide for my personal taste, I prefer the non-stretched version of the layout. But the 2nd one had more personality and was less business like.
   
   So ... depends on your own personal taste tho ... and what type of blog you're doing.
