I am thinking of changing the layout of my blog. I currently have a 2 column template content in the right and sidebar menu column on the left.

Do you think its better to have 2 or 3 columns? Why?

2 or 3 columns depend entirely on your needs.
The more cluttered the look of the blog is the harder it is for me to read.

I prefer two columns only because sometimes all three don't show up on my computer and I have to keep scrolling left and right.

Mine is always 3 column. It's has all the space I need.

    2-columns for me mostly.

3-column themes can be a little messy if there's no clear division of the content, though those with 2 right sidebars are generally fine.

    depends on the blog

I agree with those who have said it depends on the blog, but then again it is also personal tastes.

In my case I find the 2 column set-up as just fine! Not a lot of clutter and enough width to make sure your posts don't stretch down the page too much!

I rock out with the three column, mostly because, well on my site it just looks better.

Depends on the blog. 3 column in wordpress can look great (of course I'm biased:) In blogger - not so great. But it also depends on the "mission" of your blog. If it is to only impart information - I would go with the two column theme. If it is a cash generator - you probably need to get as much info as you can get on there. Also, based on your topic (I have quite a few relationship sites) - I would probably go with an uncluttered 2 column theme.

Definately 3 columns. I have too much junk on the left sidebar of the biography blog, and I want that other column for links to articles related to the things I write about. But I can't find a nice template for this blog that is three columns, and not plain.

My personal site has 3 columns (I used WP) and my paid to Blog (blogger)has 2 columns.. but i like them both.

I think sidebars are one of the trickiest parts of a blog. I guess the bottom line is, if the content remains prevalent, have as many columns as you want.

I have 3 column layout, a sidebar either side of the content. I have come up with a rad solution that I am happy with for the right sidebar, but the left sidebar, Im not sure yet.

I prefer two columns although I might have to go to three as I have a lot in my sidebar...

Check out your user statistics. What kind of screen resolution do most of them have? That can give you a sense of whether you can go wider than 800 px or not.

I like my 3 column layout as it lets me display plenty of stuff while still making the whole thing not too cluttered. Also, I think mine's really unique and it maximises the available space (fluid width). It's useful for displaying a lot of photo-links to photoalbums etc. My sidebar got way too long when I was still using 2 columns.
