There are a lot of criterias. Say if you write badly with a lot of grammatical errors. No hold on style just nonsense chatter patter. And your subject is sex and money then you will get a lot of visitors. It is but an open question. There are subjects that you take. Write in perfect english and style you will not attract that much traffic if you talk on literature or education. I have seen blogs having good traffic but concept not that appealing. Writing flow not controlled. Really it is a baffling question. Thanks.

The answer is: It depends on many factors such as the url, blog title, tagline, brand, ability of the blogger to write interesting and unique high quality content, the structure of the blog and posts in it (SEO), what the blogger is prepared to do to promote the blog and increase traffic to it, and the nature of the competition.
If you are referring to a blog that the blogger intends to make significant income from the blog, then, as a rule of thumb, a steady flow of organic traffic that produces 1,000 - 1,500 hits every day is what's required for monetizing.
Organic Traffic: Organic traffic is any traffic that comes to your site without being paid for. This includes people who visit via links in forums and blogs, traffic from search engines, traffic from word of mouth, or traffic from bookmarks. Organic traffic generally comes to a site naturally and is not driven by marketing campaigns.
Inorganic Traffic: Inorganic traffic is traffic that is pushed via marketing campaigns. Banner ads, search engine ads, etc generate inorganic traffic. Generally speaking this form of traffic is semi-immediate depending on how much you blanket the Web with your advertising and slowly dies out over time unless more money is spent to build a new marketing campaign. -
Im still trying to figure out what I'm missing and what needs improved with mine... It's sometimes frustrating, most of the time, rewarding to some extent, and a learning process all the time.

It depends :), but usually niche blogging is more conducive to earning lots of money because it's more focused. You want to make the niche as wide as possible without losing the focusing power.
So maybe a blog exclusively about left-handed barracuda salesmen in South Africa is too narrow in its focus ... but maybe if it covered all the world's barracuda salesmen, or all left-handed salesmen, or all barracuda lovers in South Africa, etc., it would stand more of a chance. -
I love personal blogs that speak of a person's struggles.....some people really have incredible inner strength!
very admirable! -
general blog has the potential to get more traffic in the long run...but most blogs never reach their full potential. Also, general "rambling, personal diary, political, pop culture, tech blogs are way to competitive. it is already dominated by giants and thousands of medium blogs. It's probably best to start with a niche blog, then set up some pop culture blogs just for kicks later.

I suppose mine would be a niche but hopefully would additionally appeal to people not necessarily into market shopping because it's life experience and humour too. I use the blog to promote awareness of my stall to customers but also I like the idea of people visiting for entertainment too so hopefully I'm achieving a balance.
More general blogs are bound to attract more hits because they would encompass a broader number of subjects. -
One that's been around for a long time, fills a niche, is reputable, and is fairly frequently updated.
Kobra's Corner fits 2 out of 4 of those requirements. (Maybe 3 if you consider that my honesty in regards to my opinion is reputable.)
According to my statistics, I've had 8243 unique visitors in the past week. (Uniqueness is determined only for 24-hour periods, so the actual number is probably slightly lower.) That's almost 1200 a day, on average, for the past week.
Edit: Google says 6510, which averages out to just over 900 a day for the past week. I trust their algorithms more. -
I guess a blog which is humorous would definitely attract traffic

niche blogs are better, but if you are blogging only for money, your writing may not be what it needs to be to keep people interested.

I think it depends - but I would sway more towards Niche Blogging - followed by intense keyword research and profitability research.

A niche blog. You will get most of your traffic through search engines. But it should be something you really have a passion for.

I started blogging on general topics, but now I'm trying to get into a niche. As @bloggernoob says, tech blogs are very competitive, and perhaps some of my regular readers don't like the change.
Lesson learned : Plan your blog, and work your plan. Don't loose focus mid way. Blog about your passion. Write well, and build organic traffic.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for turning my blog around, my blog is coffeewithviktor.blogspot.com
Thanks.
